GTA Stories DTZ Explorer

GTA Stories DTZ Explorer is an advanced resource editor for GTA:LCS and GTA:VCS resources, which are stored in game.dtz (on both platforms – PSP and PS2). Textures and configuration data settings (vehicle, weapon parameters, etc).

Version: 1.1.0 public
Designed and made by: Dageron
Support and tests: SILENT_Pavel
Years: 2010-2014

Supported platforms: PSP and PS2
Supported formats: *.dtz
Features:

  • Support for texture resources in game.dtz (hud, particle, generic, fonts, menu): preview, import and export.
  • Support for configuration data resources in game.dtz (weapons, handling, particle, pedstats): preview and edit.

Notes:

  • Replaced textures should have the same parameters as the original ones.
  • Application is still on testing development stage. Possible buggs will be corrected in future versions. In particular, it will support larger amount of resources in game.dtz.
  • Many fields of configuration data are not described. For clarification edit settings.ini. Also it is better to publish descriptions in forum thread.
  • If for some reason program run occurs errors, remove the registry key “Run Mode” at “HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Dageron Stories DTZ Editor”.
  • Ctrl+A – switching alpha modes in the texture editor module.

Source is published on GitHub. You may freely share it, modify, create something new based on :).

 

Hope that this app will be helpful for someone who interested in the Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories research. Last August I posted app source on Russian forums with hope for the next development by interested people, now publish here with the same idea. You may freely modify source and create own tools with one note: your apps also must be open source.

So, this is just the begining of things I may publush about Stories. Hope I will gather everything, it's just a bit complicated :) .

Thank you for releasing this tool along with its source code :)

 

Having a working Stories resource editor fills an important hole. Will be looking at your source code more closely in my summer break.

It's always great to see improvements in modding for the handheld games. First the Chinatown Wars explorer, and now this. There's a bright light at the end of the tunnel for the handheld games.

Not all resources are supported now. For example, there are a lot of interesting files in *.dtz: *.dirs for gta3psp.img, animations, some models, collisions. And also "text" ones: timecyc, waterpro, carcols, other. They are stored in binary form and need to be described first.

 

Hope for participance by interested people.

There is some information on gtamodding.ru about dtz (GTAG) format. Also sent you a PM.

Hi Dageron.

 

Thank you for this editor that you made because i wanted to make game in my own language.

But i have very serious problem. Problem is ingame after saving a GAME.DTZ.

I and other peds can't steer a boats like Predator, Speeder or Reefer.

Boats are floating in one place. I didn't change a handling, particle or something like that.

It makes 3-4 missions impossible to complete, especially 'Caught in the Act', 'The Sicillian Gambit'.

 

Also i tested this editor without changing files, just for save. Problem is the same.

I will be very thankful if you help me.

It´s using a diferent format than LCS and the LCS handling format was also not really decrypted.

For LCS, just download the Mobile version, they left a copy of the PS2 files as TXD's (usable with Magic.TXD) and DFF's/COL's, etc, in the GTA3.IMG archive. Much easier than dealing with this tool.

Also i want another info, is possible to extract the textures of LCS and VCS with the alpha? because when i use VCS Texture Explorer, the tool extracts the texture in tm2 format, idk how to open it but if i extract to other formats, like .bmp doesn't have alpha Help me!

Yes, use the Mobile version of LCS and Magic.TXD to open the TXD files and you can export as PNG or TGA. Again, it's really simple, for now, everyone should just ignore VCS, it's not worth all this time and effort to get incorrectly named models and textures.

Pres the right mouse button, not the left one on the export button, than you should see a list of image formats, you can export.
