Haha! Man, it's been a while since I visited that site. Are you on there as well? This pic actually ended up on that websites calendar years ago.

Yes those guys are awesome. When I was in Afghanistan they sent me so much stuff it was crazy. My tiny room was stacked with car mags and beef jerky and all kinds of knick knacks. Very knowledgable about the cars as well. Kind of a blast from the past seeing that. A lot has changed since then.

This is my first car. A 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

Long story short. Some could guess why I wanted to own one. When I was a kid I promised myself that one day I would own the same car than the one I saw every evening on my parents little TV screen. My classmates and I used to talk about that super cool black car that could do the most incredible things. The years passed by and they lost interest as it became old. To me it was just the start of something special. It became a passion.

For years I looked in car magazines and later on the internet for these cars and the further the years passed by the more difficult it was to find one. People in my entourage tried to dissuade me to own one because they're old cars, slow, gas guzzlers, under powered, always have problems, hard to find replacement parts, too big and ugly. I didn't care. The funny thing is those were the words of people who never owned these type of cars. Every car will have problems if you abuse it or don't take of it.

I didn't want any 80's Firebird. I wanted one that was very well taken care and believe me these cars have gone thru some sh#t. Most were neglected and in bad shape. I finally found one in The Netherlands that had only two owners and all its paperwork, its bill of sale and build sheet. The only problem was that the body was customized into a later model. But it was so clean and a blast to drive. I couldn't let that V8 pass.

Much patience is needed and one has to be willing to buy the tools too. I usually don't count how much I spend on the car. I know for me that it can cause headaches just thinking of it but in the end it will always be worth it because I enjoy what I have, how I can, with deep passion.

Spoiler

This is how it looks like now.

This was technically my 2nd vehicle. I can't find a picture of my first one right now ('79 Chevy Blazer I drove my sophomore year of high school). This was a '79 Chevy Malibu that my dad fixed up for me right before I started college. It had a rebuilt 350 engine from a slightly newer Trans Am in it (I forget what year now). It was a fun car but a gas hog.

Are you rebuilding it on your own? Yours is from 1986 right? Black aero-wing rear spoiler and a third stop light on top of the hatch glass.

That is all correct mate. Next week the engine bay will be re-painted after that everything will go back in, then i'm tearing off the rear diff 'it has the Borg warner 9 bolt limited slip rear end' Rebuilt and repaint that to.

Just some things i did, did a lot more but don't want to flood the entire page. Nothing will show any signs of being used when i'm done with her.

Also all parts have been resprayed using 2K paint and 800 degree heat resistant paint for the engine in my personal little paint booth for parts. Which used to be my paint booth for respraying bikes lol.

Had the little 'Driveshaft shop' decal laying around, thought i would give it a place.

This might be a stupid question but why is the fanblade unsymmetrical? Would it not be unbalanced?

They balance at the centre of the hub, as long as the mass of each opposing blade is about the same they'll be balanced

My first was a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic.  My neighbor bought it from me last year when I bought my 2015 Ram 1500.

Here's a photo of my old Jeep and my current truck parked next to each other:

1993 190e 2.3. Was slow as hell, but as least it looked real nice inside and out. It was my best looking car too. All the cars I've bought afterwards have been haggard projects that I either flip or have to get rid of for more space.

'97 300zx . Went to college with it, but was T-boned at an intersection by a drunk within a year.  I then found a rebuilt better than original "81 T/A

She was repainted all black without the screaming chicken and T-top, but had some real plumbing and sound. Also had a light on the hood that went green/yellow/red when Id get heavy on the gas. People really dug it.

I'll correct you there, modern French cars suck. I agree with that, I'm afraid.

My mom was one of the first to buy Peugeot in our state. It had every option for less, and rode better than the BMWs and Saabs, etc that people were flocking to in her day.Never had many problems with it, I recall...

First car was a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro with some basic bolt ons and painted S4 wheels. I have more pics but I lost the login info to the photobucket I used in those days.

100_0918.jpg

Then I "stepped up" to a 2001 S4, which was replaced by a 2000 S4 that I still have. I've only owned B5 chassis Audi's lol
