Thing is, IDK why people choose the airport so often, it's sh*t for deathmatches, weapons are far apart, it's a huge waste of space (for a deathmatch), there's also barely any form of cover whatsoever.

I don't know, when I was playing GTA IV online, the main spots were the old casino, that old hospital or the airport.

From a month ago I joined the online game, because I was wondering if the game is still "alive"  every match was at the airport.

Kinda sad,  because airport is probably the most boring place.

Sitting at the airport with an RPG waiting for the next unsuspecting player to walk into the airport gates.

Everyone was at that lame ass airport shooting RPGs at people and flying around in Annihilators. Even in friendly fire off lobbies.

God, before the hackers, GTA IV's online was golden. Everybody used to f*ck around at the airport. I remember the intense fight of trying to steal a helicopter only so I could shoot down the other helicopters trying to stop me from obtaining one. I remember finding the Majestic hotel and all the other interiors I could enter. From online only, I managed to find almost every single glitch, interior, vehicles and just cool things in general. It's a shame that the multiplayer was overrun by modders. But both IV and TBOGT had amazing online. I never fell in love with TLAD's online. Though whenever I did play it, I always had to drive a bike.

Edit: I'm just going to drop the act. I found GTA IV multiplayer boring.

I think it was great. I was with a crew and we did different things so it was quite fun rather than playing by myself.

Comparing it to the amount of things to do in GTA V, it's obviously lower quality, but I did enjoy the GTA IV multiplayer

Yeah, basically what everyone is saying: simple, but very enjoyable when all the pieces fell together.

Even though GTA O has exponentially more dev time put into it (which you can hardly tell from what a broken, exploited mess it is to this date, LEL) IV's fun came from that it was not structured in any way. SNT especially is fantastic, being able to spawn in all the NPCs, weapons, vehicles you want. I had fun in GTA O. My social club says I spent like 50 hours or something in it, but simple things like bounties, insurance, bad sport, and death costs all chip severely away at the freedom I enjoyed from GTA IV. Cops n' Crooks, Road Rash, Club Business, and Lone Wolf Biker were the absolute sh*t, as well as the Petrovic missions the fist dozen times.

Everybody drives an Sultan RS and fights over it.
Everybody hangs out at the airport & flings eachover away with Annihilators.

Compared to V...utter dogsh*t IMO.

At least it functioned from the start. GTAO needed a two week delay and it was still a broken piece of sh*t full of issues.

Anyway I haven't played GTA IV MP in years, but it was such a load of fun. I'm not normally into multiplayer gamse, but even though I don't typically like playing with strangers in GTA IV MP it was a blast.

Atleast GTA V isn't a boring empty nightmare.

It was great. Hangman's NOOSE and Cops  n' Crooks were really fun, but Free Roam is surrounded by stupid modders and hackers. At least it's better than GTA Online IMO.

IV was a time when people in the mafia community weren't running each other down constantly. There was respect among the crews. It's mostly gone in V due to the influx of new kids playing the game doing drive by's and screaming assassination from a Zentorno. A game that facilitates roleplay so well is terrible because of the people. One that didn't facilitate it very well was great because of the people.

GTA IV MP was fun, now everyone hangs out at the f*cking airport. At least it was a better experience than GTA Online. Too boring and you do nothing but grind and grind for money. Heist payouts are decent, but all players are too f*cking stupid to complete one certain task.

Best MP R* will ever make I'm sure. RDR MP was at least made with a lot of the unstructed nature IV had, but after this weird thing called GTA Online has come about, I don't see R* going back to making games worth playing.

IV's multiplayer has to be my most played game, ever. All the game modes were brilliant and creative. They all took a bit of what classic GTA was about and brought it online perfectly. My favourite modes were Races, Mafiya Work and Bomb Da Base. But the real draw for the game was Free Mode.

Ingeniously of Rockstar, they made this mode with not one ounce of structure. Just a map, a plethora of vehichles and weapons and that's pretty much it. Kind of like classic GTA, only now you had other players in the same game as you.

And that is the perfect formula for GTA Online. The other gamemodes are nice for when you feel like it. But before V came about GTA by definition was having a map and having total freedom to do what ever the f*ck you wanted in it. Adding other players to that mix just made it even more interesting for me.

Too many amazing unscripted moments came from GTA IV free mode it's crazy to think people see DAY Z as the pioneer of emergent gameplay.

V is some directionless, repetitive drivel

Also based on third party responses, in GTA Online you spend more time loading the game, than playing the game.

Indeed. Sometimes with GTAO it feels like you might die from old age with the ridiculous load times.

Yep. It's a pretty common complaint on the 'GTA Online Bitch and Moan' Thread.

The bigger question is, Why do these players put themselves through so much agony then?

At least on PS3, the loading times were awful. That fancy Google Earth loading screen really takes you out of the game. And after enduring so much load time between races you've had enough. And you remember how in IV, Racing is more interesting because of the handling, is more fun with better designed tracks, and after each race, you or the host would be on it getting the next one sorted while we picked our cars.

Also interestingly, Yahtzee recently did an review for GTA ONline with similar complaints for loading times on the remaster version. http://www.escapistm...o-Online-Review

The bigger question is, Why do these players put themselves through so much agony then?

I'd say it's the free to play model GTA Online uses. The same thing that buzzes with candy crush and the like players. That's why each update is free instead of being released in big paid DLC packs. Don't want to create minorities in he market and want to make the customer feel like there's always something new to grind for.

I play multiplayer only with my cousin, because in public servers/lobbies there are always hackers and modders.

IV MP was fun. That's the only way I can explain it. No random rockets or jets gunning you down. No bounties or Mercenaries sent after you. Just a straight up free mode with some really fun game modes.

GTA IV multiplayer was really fun. The simplicity played a huge part but the various modes were still in depth enough to bring about hours of fun. Grinding with other players to rank 10 was a fun challenge and the influx of new players and new challenges still draw me back to Liberty City. Free Mode was what you made it and the imagination can lead you to do some crazy things. All in all I loved it.
