There is a very large group of gamers that san andreas is the game for them. It was like a first love. Gta 3 and vice city were very great romances, but san andreas was zing wow it was love.

Best game ever? If gta 5 did not have the awesome online, imo, san andrease would be a least the best gta game todate.

One for PC,

And two for Xbox 360.

  Am I a fan?

Bought it on:

Xbox

2x on PS2 (wore one out)

3x on the PC (lost one, wore one out, and then finally bought the Triple-Pack)

1X Windows App (technically for PC, but it is an app lol)

Unfortunately, while I LOVE San Andreas to death, after 10 years it really is showing its age. While I love GTA V, its clear Rockstar's focus is on compromise and realism as well as huge online leaderboards. Otherwise they would probably have made a genuine sequel to San Andreas. So its all up to companies like Volition. SR games are genuine sequels to San Andreas (lol even the insane SR IV) but the problem is that they lack the depth and production value of a GTA game. Rockstar is still the master of incredible detail and really knows how to "pack a game" with the best tech available, not to mention incredible writing, storytelling, and voice-overs.

While I am a HUGE SR fan, and love the games, Volition simply cannot compete with Rockstar in overall quality and spit & polish.

This is all by way of saying that I would practically sell my soul to have Rockstar make a genuine sequel to San Andreas, not a compromise between the "online realism-fest" and the "over the top" gameplay.

-10 years old and people are still playing it (as you can see in SAMP, the number of players rises every year)

-When you've paid for this game back then, you probably paid 50 bucks. Best spent money ever! ( Today you pay 60 bucks for a Fifa game and after a year you trash it)

-Since people are developing awesome mods which gets better and better, i think this game will stay updated forever

-It runs on high settings on every PC. I remember when i had GTA 4 for PC, it lagged as hell and my PC was pretty good for 2009.

-The same can be said for many games. Doom is a 22 year old game and lots of people still play that.

-Again, same can be said for many other games.

-Once again, can be said for many other games, like Doom, GTA 4, Fallout 3/New veags, Syrim, etc. (side note, GTA SA is the most unstable game I have ever modded. Have to download a tonne of patches and jump through all of these hoops just for the game to crash constantly at random if it doesn't feel like working.)

-For the last time, can be said for many other old games, such as Doom (again), Deus Ex, and pretty soon Fallout 3-New Vegas (again!). Also GTA 4 may be a bad example considering how horribly ported that game was.

Still love SA though :p

Nowhere near why GTA:SA is the best game ever. There are better threads with more reasons. This is just a place for fanboys like me to congregate.

Too many to put under one post, I'll list a few:
- The very first opening in the game with the bicycle in front of CJ, and that excitement to explore LS instantly without starting the story.
- I also liked that most story missions rewarded Carl with 'Respect Gained'
- Wanted rating exploits in the story missions
- The initial missions where Carl is introduced with new features and customization.
- All the funny banter between CJ and the homies.
- Three amazing cities, with a countryside and a desert, the amazing atmosphere, the scary woods in the nights, the driving across the map, all the rampages and mayhem with no realism bullsh*t to interrupt my enjoyment with the most open ended sandbox in the series.
- Stadium events, street racing and flying tournaments.
- The uneven difficulty
- Jetpack
- Import / Export
- The story; really well written and thoroughly entertaining, while it can lose the pace at certain points, it was nonetheless full of surprises and interesting secondary characters. CJ had a clear goal in mind throughout the story, didn't make me feel like he was just doing errand jobs for random people, but Rockstar tied in nicely to the story.
- The part when Tenpenny takes CJ in the middle of nowhere, with all the weapons gone and left with only a camera. Not only did it make me feel like I was dropped in some remote part of the world, but the game interestingly made the return to LS difficult with hostile gangs. It was a really cool twist from both gameplay and story standpoint.
- When CJ returned to LS. It really felt good to see him on the verge of a victory, finally. He was no longer just a lowly gangster, forced in to work for a corrupt cop, but appeared like a hero returning to his home turf where he belongs to but with more respect and friends than what he had when he left Grove Street.
- The switching from city to city, and one part to another, while unlocking more properties, and stuff to do.
- Variety of missions.
- Officer Tenpenny; the best villain.

E:typo.

Yes! Definitely my favorite game of all time, checking my inventory I have it on Steam, PC (Disk), XBOX (Disk), XBOX Live Originals, Xbox 360 (HD Re-Release), PS2 (Disk) PS3 (PS2 Classics) PS3 (HD Re-Release) PS4 (Classics) and iOS. 10 Copies of the same game! I've been playing the PS4 Version the last couple of weeks and having trophy support is enough to get me excited about the game again. The Map Size, variety of the land mass, the music, everything just came perfectly together for me.

This is my favorite GTA, it ain't the best game. Infact, there is no best game. The idea is very subjective when it comes to any game.

The choices and freedom in SA is merely illusion. Infact most of the 'freedom' is actually very restrictive. For example, you HAVE to eat. That's annoying. There is customization but so what? You can do that in most games nowadays. Also, you are just going to pick the outfit tatoos that gives you the most amount of sex appeal and respect, so its again restricting. So there you have 4 buildings in the game (barbers, tattoo parlour, clothing and food restaurants) that dont do anything except in a certain scenario. Besides, the actual customization is non existent. You can select from a pre determined range of cloths, but you cant modify them.

There are some mini games eg pool and arcade games but so what? The internet has thousands of these that are better.

There is an RPG system but does that give you freedom? Actually it does the opposite. I cant choose to disable it. Instead the missions get very easy because the RPG system effectively does everything for you.

The mission chronology is linear and unskippable. How many people moaned at drive school and flight school? How about I just not do it? How about choosing which missions I want do do? How about being able to actually influence the plot with my own decisions? None of this exists.

In SA you have the freedom to explore a dull map with 3 almost identical boring cities.
Don't talk bullsh*t.

You don't have to eat. You don't need tattoos for sex appeal just collect the damn oysters.

In missions you self do the most part.

Bullsh*t. There has NEVER been a game where YOU decide what missions you can do or change the story line.

Dull map... stfu
Actually VC you could select which businesses you wanted to complete to advance to the final mission.

So your advice for sex appeal is to painstakingly search around for oysters for hours on end? This is another reason I hate the game; its missions seem to be a drive and fetch. Any gun slinging missions are made ridiculously easy because by the end of the game your max health is near maxed out as is your guns. It's a joke.

The game is way too easy and would be completable in a day or 2 if it wasn't for the deliberate speed bumps that are drive & flight school and the countryside/dessert.

I know I'm late on this topic, but since I was reading the replies, I need to answer this "helpplease" guy.

As first, in SA you can choose your look, your way to destination and a way to complete some missions. Yes, you follow a linear storyline but if you wanna be a stealth guy you can do stealth, there is an option for it. Secondly, SA has the best towns in GTA games so far, and LS, SF and LV are really different. In LS you have GSF and Ballas fighting on every corner, different kind of buildings and all. San Fierro is overrum by hippies and Triads. It is filled with high buildings and nice shops. Las Venturas gives you a feel you'te actually in Las Vegas. Lights, casinos, rich guys which game to spend a couple of "hard earned" millions and great cars. So, San Andreas is most original GTA and greatest of them all ;)

Remeber Wheel Arch Angels and the tuner cars? Those were the best things ever. Flying through San Fierro's massive road ramps and drifting through corners... Priceless. GTA V just didn't have THAT feeling to me. I don't even know how to describe it. It's a feeling of joy that comes with flipping a car over, running like hell before you get caught in the blast radius, and simply stealing another one to wash, rinse, and repeat. Ah, San Andreas. Hard to believe you're ten years old already. It's been real, it's been fun, it's been real fun. Thanks for being there for me to spend countless hours on when I should have been studying or something important.

I don't understand why people say San Andreas has a bad story and all. Its definitely the best story in GTA series, along with Vice City. GTA V can be in Los Santos, but it'll never have that feel that SA does.

There are so many fun things from San Andreas that just made my childhood:

- The location/year

- The story

- The cheats

- The characters

- The music

- Gang Wars

...I could go on and on but it would take me a decade to explain as I just find new reasons to love it when I turn it on.

I've played all the Rockstar titles from Smugglers Run to Red Dead and they are all amazing games but I just don't think Rockstar could ever outdo San Andreas no matter what they do and part of me welcomes that.

They could out do San Andreas with proper focus, but with how GTA V and Online turned out, I doubt they will ever do it.

Chainsaw! Hell you can kill as many people as you want with it and not get a wanted star as long as you don't get seen by a police patrol (something that doesn't exist in GTA V lmfao)

According to the GTAF Census 2016 Results and based on the number of over 430 submissions, SA has been voted as the "Favorite GTA Title"

Its totally surprising as I always felt that SA was considered as the least favorite ( and even more hated ) title in the forums, but really happy to see it win, esp, beating the currently popular GTA Online as well. That's. Totally. Amazing.

I think SA will remain at the top for years to come as more and more people realize its greatness as a complete entertainer that provides so much fun even to this date.
Also, the modding community has helped a lot in keeping it alive in the hearts of many PC players.
Share how you feel about this victory!!!

The wide variety of colorful characters, 3 fleshed out cities and lots of towns throughout the map, property to be bought everywhere, and lots of ways to make money.  I love the early-mid '90s feel, and the soundtrack is the best in the series.  Maybe my favorite thing about the game is how it starts off "realistically" then moves into ridiculousness as the game advances. From coming back to home to bury a parent and helping your struggling gang clean up their 'hood to jetpacks and taking on an aircraft carrier solo, then back to the 'hood where it all started, this game is awesome beyond proper description.

Just replayed it again after a few years. Its (IMO) not even the best 3D Era GTA (Vice City is much better) and far from the best game ever made if that even exists.

Still an outstanding game no doubt. The map was crazy big with its three cities + desert & countryside (latter is much better than in GTA V), the characters were really memorable and fun and Tenpenny is still one of the series best villians, the story became a trainwreck after LS but a very entertaining one etc.

I also really liked the hood theme, they nailed the 90's gangbanger feel. Loved listening to Radio Los Santos while driving around the hood.

One of the games that I swear to never uninstall from my laptop due to the replay value of this game.

Not every games can keep me hooked up like this. Even after many years, not even one company can create a game a little bit better than San Andreas.

When there is a time where I tired of this game, I usually try some mods or play some other old games that are also rewarding in their own ways.

EDIT << new topic merged into existing topic >>
Why I think San Andreas is the most discriminated against game in the series...

Firstly, I don't wanna start a war here; so please be cool.

Now, my thoughts -
San Andreas is a masterpiece, truly. But I think R* never thought about the game after its release.

-Even though its one of the best video games ever created in history, It never got any attention for any expansion or something like that.
-It never got a 10th Anniversary Edition - III and VC did!
-It never got a Stories Edition - III and VC did!

What are your thoughts? All opinions are welcome!

:)
