...just a note: it's not confirmed that Claude killed Maria at the end of III. That was a sound effect added by one of the audio producers and wasn't in the original design. However, Claude does not go to save Maria as much as kill Catalina before she can leave Liberty City. He owes Maria a lot for introducing him to Asuka, but shows few signs of loyalty to anyone but himself.

Either 4 or 5

Well, I'll start with what I think has the worst, and unsurprisingly it's GTA 5. I created this thread bc I just finished the game again (barely, it's so bad it was forced) and it got me thinking. Now the ending I always choose is "Death Wish" simply bc it's the canon ending, but it is beyond stupid how it ends.

Even the very first time I played the game and still had that shock and awe feeling I knew it was bad. For one thing, I think the story should have been written in a way that would have allowed us to kill off ANY of the 3 protags, not just Michael or Trevor. The whole shootout at the Foundry between our protags, Merryweather, and the FIB just felt like Rockstar wanted to throw in 1 big final shootout for the heck of it. But the worst part, was after that when each protag killed the enemy of the other protag: Frank killed Wei Cheng for Trevor, Michael killed Stretch for Frank, and Trevor killed Haines for Michael, and then all 3 of them killed Weston. I know right. The first time I played the game I didn't know who was who at the end. lol. Here's the kicker though, Stretch was standing on a basketball court with a group of Ballas just out in the open. Why? He must've known that Franklin or Lamar would not be happy having known that he was behind that ambush out in the sticks and might try to kill him, so why wasn't he laying low in a crack house somewhere or whatever. Instead he is just standing there for easy pickings and it doesn't make sense. And, after Trevor attacks Merryweather and their assets the entire game, they apparently just say "Devin Weston's dead huh...then oh well" and forget all about Trevor and the gold from the previous heist...which is the reason for the shootout at the Foundry in the first place. See how things don't really add up. All in all though, I just do not like how all the antagonists in the whole game are killed one after the other as if it were that easy. It's like the writers grew tired and just slapped an ending on an already mediocre game.

Added a "poll" on the suggestion of a fellow poster to make things easier.

Problem with GTA V's ending is that there was no real antagonist.

GTA V's ending was the worst even through I like GTA V better than every other GTA game. Like what everyone else said V's ending felt rushed & annoying.

I wonder what the poll would be like if the Stories games (LCS, and VCS) and EFLC (TLAD, and TBOGT) titles were included as well.

I loved VCS's ending, LCS was pretty sub par, though. TLAD was phenomenal and TBoGT was pretty good, as well.

GTA V by far. Multiple endings, forced and annoying. The happiest ending makes no goddamn sense and the two tragic endings pretend like it's a better story.

I could include them but ppl would need to change their vote and it might tick off a few of you.

I've never finished anything besides IV+eps and V so I can't say. Neither was very satisfactory to me.

But I thought III doesn't even have a proper ending? It just fizzles out of sorts? At least people tend to say that. Or are they just morons?

LCS had a great atmosphere in it's ending, with the lighthouse, man. VCS had a fun last mission, ending on the rooftop. TBOGT had a good mission, and TLAD was amazing. Ripping through a prison, then burning down the clubhouse as a low guitar rift plays in the background.

I have heard before that R* thought of a Kill Franklin option and if you chose that option, you would play Lamar instead. I would have liked this.

Yes the endings were trash, but I thought some of the scenes between Michael and Trevor/their relationship in general was really well written.

V:s feel mostly rushed. I love ending B though, the credits music, and the knowledge that the Friend-killing, Wife-cheating, child-ignoring, apprentice-lying, turn-against-others-to-save-myself asshole is finally dead. And C didn't feel that rewarding.

Liberty City stories: I just couldn't catch what was going on. So how come it all ended in a lighthouse?

We had seen the main antagonist twice during the game. After shooting his chopper down, I'm watching Salvatore talking to the mayor, and BAM! the credits start.

San Andreas. This could be because I just didn't really like the story that much. Big Smoke hadn't been a big character in about 65 missions, and Tenpenny didn't feel that threatening. I disliked Pulaski more. When I finally get to big smoke, I see he can eat bullets from my M4 for breakfast, so I decided to end it non-dramatically with the minigun. Then escaping the building with Fireproof CJ screaming constantly from pain, and then a chase that I had to replay 3 times only to see Tenpenny crash. And not any of the songs in the radio really fitted to the chase.

GTA LCS ending is worst. It could have been epic if the storyline was good.
But 95% of the game you don't know or meet the villain and in last mission he appears outta nowhere and you have to kill him!

+1

Michael is like the main antagonist for me and at the end he got what he deserved.

I think I will vote V too, because endings are clearly rushed. I expected better scenes between Michael and Franklin and it just turn into simple chase.

Definitely GTA 5. All three endings were just too predictable. GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, 4, TLAD, and TBOGT all have quite a bit more suspense involved leading up to the end than 5 does, which is what I like better about those previous games. I know this is a bit off-topic, but GTA 5 is my third least favorite GTA game, behind 1 and 2 (which I barely even count as part of the series, but that's just me).
