One of the biggest upsets is when Korea beat Germany for the first time. Korea had been performing terribly previously and still usually performs terribly to this day. Korea got good results against weaker teams this year. So Korea beating Germany was a major shocker. Germany beating Brazil 7-1 during the World Cup in Brazil was shocking too mainly because of the goal differential, but Germany wasn't a weak team so it wasn't as shocking.

100 million Brazilian hearts sunk when Lewis Hamilton overtook Timo Glock at the last lap on the final corner, giving him 1 point more than Felipe Massa. If Hamilton had retired and Massa won that year in his home grand prix, then the Brazilian population would have built a statue along with local legends such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna.
I'm British but I rooted for Massa to win that year despite being a Button fan.

2005 Champion's League Final between Liverpool and AC Milan. It's like something out of a Hollywood film.. the odds such a comeback in statistically almost impossible. To be 3 goals down and then come back...
Another one more personal to me was Ireland losing to New Zealand last second almost beating them for the first time. 3 years later Ireland beat New Zealand for the first time and very convincingly beating their 18-win winning streak. It was their first lose in 2 years.
Soldier Field, Chicago...

I guess Barcelona needing to win by 5 (won 6-1) to get into the UEFA or whatever, was a big deal.

Giants defeating the Bills - still the best Super Bowl ever.
Giants beating the Pats in SB XLII.
NC State defeating Phi Slamma Jamma - one of the worst coaching jobs I've ever seen.

Mike Tyson losing to James Buster Douglas was a huge upset in Boxing.
Tyson and Bobby Brown were having a Japanese orgy during the wee hours before that fight

My Dr as a kid was at that NC State game. I saw him in the crowd behind the baskest
The 16-0(18-0 ps)patriots losing to the giants in the superbowl.
The Rams were also heavily favored and virtually unstoppable until they ran into the Pats, starting Brady's legacy
