Brilliant! Just amazing!
Few things:
1. Is this a complete conversion from missions to every single aspect the classic GTA 2 has to offer?
2. Any estimated release date?
Great previews, and don't give up though!
Keep up the good work!

1. I hope so. Multiplayer should also be more complex than the original.

2. It will take me a year or two at least :(

3. Thanks :)

Two years!  I thought a modification like this wouldn't take much time to finish it.

It's more complicated than you think. I could tell you how it works

I have to

1. Compare what I map at certain moment, with what GTA2 map look like. All the time.

2.

Doom also allow to place only one texture per wall polyherdron, so I'm forced to make these

JhrPpx7.png

Imagine, how much time does it require.

3. Optimize all this stuff for ancient engine, which is the hardest part.

It would be way easy if I'd be making it for any 3dGTA, if I knew how it works. :(

@Zeberpal

Well, I didn't know that it's too hard to optimize such map for Doom engine (I know it's old). It won't take that time if you are working on another GTA Engine. I wish you good luck anyway.  :^:

Zeberpal, I love you.

I had this thought for a while, that GTA 2 is heavily underrated just because it's topdown, and people couldn't scent great retro-utopia-cyberpunk-noir atmosphere because of that.

Exactly my thoughts. I also dreamt about a 3D GTA 2 for so long.
And what a wonderful idea to port it on the Doom engine, it fits the game so well!
The screenshots look very good, keep up the good work! I'm really looking forward to it.

I love this. GTA II is still my favourite top down game.

Cheers.

Unfotunatelly (for you [: ) there is no playable version for now. There is simply nothing to play there yet.

I saw the rain feature in your video. You did it much better than Rockstar did in GTA3/VC/SA by not using CULL zones but something better. Very realistic, nice advantages.

Now GTA 2 looks more futuristic and cyberpunk.

GTA 2 was supposed to look like this. Dark and gritty. Good mod.

Thread followed.

I'm having problems irl due to financial sanctions, so it's on hold for now. On the other hand I've been mapping some time before, made some screenies but they look bland due to lack of dynamic lights there, so I'm not to post any.

Also worked out multiplayer conception, It'll be similiar to GTAO, but trust me it would be very awesome, I'll put in details some time later.

Just my opinion - I think if you would somehow run a related "Gta2 on Doom Avance engine" website and donation possibility, it would take much weight of your shoulders.

Goodluck, anyway :)

I'm sorry to hear that.

The HUD looks fantastic. You really know how to put that GTA 2 soul in anything you create! The multiplayer concept sounds interesting too.

I'm still very excited about this whole project!

You should get a team of modders together so that it progresses much faster. Maybe two people for singleplayer and two for multiplayer who are into sockets and connections instead of gfx and converting?

Also, for the people who cannot wait for this mod you should try out Duke Theft Auto:

It's GTA1 3D only much more naive and simple than this mod:

Nights744 suggestion is brilliant!

I'd also say, if you can prefer working in a team allocating tasks, then the project can move forward in parallel and the results would be achieved much faster.
I want to enjoy this as soon as possible :/
