Just curious how many of you have been fans from the start.

I remember trying persuade my mother to buy me the original GTA for my birthday, luckily she believed me when I told her it was just a driving game. I must have been 9/10 at the time so no older than the majority of GTA V players.

I played GTA: London, skipped GTA 2 and have played every game besides the handheld ones since. Strangely I haven't grown to be a murdering sociopath as the media would have you believe.

I remember that the first GTA I got was VCS on the PSP. I secretly bought it when I was 15 (my parents didn't allow me to play M games). I got it on the PSP so that I could easily keep it a secret from my parents. I later bought LCS for the PSP.  Then after that, I got GTA IV on the PS3. Those three GTA's are the ones that make me feel the most nostalgic.

So I've been playing for 6 years. It may not sound like a very long time, but it has been an extremely big part of my life and will continue to be so. I've literally played GTA at least once a day since I first got VCS.

Oh yes! I'm a looooong time fan.

Grand Theft Auto 2 was my first introduction, and perhaps the most played of the series so far.

First played some Vice City somewhere between 2007-2008. Then a couple of occasional GTA at my friends house (IV and San Andreas)

Ramble about how and when I bought and tried each game on spoilers below.

Spoiler

Thus far clocked on Steam:

GTA 3 around 50 hours

GTA Vice City around 70 hours (100%)

GTA San Andreas 7 hours

The first one I bought was GTA 2, still a personal favorite of mine.

Can't get tired of that intro either

Vice City.

Played a bit of III at friends houses, then SA came out and I played the sh*t out of that.

IV and soon enough V came out and since then I haven't touched the 3D era often except for modding purposes. From this day V stands as my favorite GTA with IV closely following behind.

I first played GTA III at my cousin's house. I didn't know the name of what I was playing. But loved it. This in 2002-2003.

Around the same time, other cousin had a PS1 game he called GTA 2 in which the player character farts. I found it nice but hadn't interest.

Then I asked the first one the name of the game.
I bought it in 2004 for PS2. And then San Andreas which became very popular at the time. When I played Vice City, I already was a diehard fan.

Pretty much me here, but I think I was 10-12 when I first start playing.

Though I really couldn't tell if I did played GTA1 in my childhood, the only games I remember playing at that time was Doom (both versions), Ace Combat 2 and Monkey Magic. I THINK I did played GTA1, but I can't fully confirm that.

I started with GTA 1 in the late 90s or early 2000s. And I was born in 1993.

Actually, the first GTA I bought by myself has to be Vice City between 2003 and 2007 or even GTA IV in 2008. All the other GTA games including Vice City (bought it again because it got damaged) I got from my uncle's friends. They were nice guys. I thank them to this day. :)

So, yes. I'm a true long time GTA fan who could watch the evolution of the GTA Series from the beginning to this day. I played almost every game and, oh surprise, I'm still able to call GTA V the best game Rockstar ever made.

Poll question doesn't exactly cover the topic title, but it's okay.

Yes, I am long time fan, as I started to love this game back in '98 seeing it at my friend's PC. I believe I asked him to install the game on my computer later on (wonders of the late '90s and lack of any anti pirates system). My first bought GTA was however GTA 2 (some pirated copy translated to polish by russians (sic!)) somewhere in the late '99 if I recall correctly. First original game was Vice City bought in 2004 for PS2.

San Andreas, nostalgia poping in my veins. Although the fanbase of SA has died out by this time, I still love GTA SA because I have loved it for so many years and it being my first GTA I ever experienced and saw. I still to this day love it

Although the first one I owned was GTA IV, I played SA at another person's house often, if that counts.

Rather surprised that out of 41 people only one voted V so far, V sold far more than 30 million copies just by the end of the year - more than IV's lifetime sales of 25 million. By now tonnes of people will have been introduced to the series from V - I guess those people are holding up in the V and Online section.

I can't be long time fan, because GTA is older than me...
I played GTA III first around 2009 on my very old laptop (lowest graphics settings and still lagged, but I didn't care).

V was my introduction to the series. I bought it on a whim as I was curious about it, but I wasn't expecting it to suck me in the way it did. After I completed V, I bought III, VC, SA and IV.

Should I buy I and II as well? I'm a little undecided on that, as I'm not sure if I would enjoy the 2D gameplay and top down view.

They were fun for their time but I wouldn't bother these days. Who knows, you may enjoy them.

You could use to download them free from Rockstar but they seemed to have removed it.

I was already familiar with GTA 1 &2 but the 3D exploration and depth in GTA III was the decider for me. At the time, it was like a dream game and GTA still holds that crown now. My old neigbours nextdoor had it on release day, so I used to nip round there  until I got a PS2.
