Rhino Tanks , Jets and the Dodo were all removed. Im suprised they took them out as Niko was a soldier before IV and he would know how to use them. The tank was also removed from TLAD.

C* :( It would have made sense for Multiplayer unless separated into it's own game modes like TLAD's Chopper VS Chopper.

Originally, a Stretch Limo would be able to pick you up when you call Roman and select his special ability. Why a Stretch Limo? Because, when Roman got his cab business back and running when you enter Algonquin he was supposed to have access to the luxury cars.

This was cut however... A Calvacade took it's place.

Body Armors were wearable by Niko Bellic as shown in this screenshot. They still exist in the retail version of the game and they can be equipped using a trainer.

^Aw man some of the stuff removed from the episodes annoys me more than the original game. It would have been hilarious to see Armando and Henrique get their asses saved by the guy they keep calling a fa**ot and a pussy.

And the mission for Stubbs involving the motorcycle going no slower than 88mph or exploding? f*cks me how that would have been useful to blow up a truck, but it would awsome as hell.

It's always interesting seeing the beta stuff at the in-game TV, but I wonder at which stage they started recording it, because it looks really bad, must've been very early, the game looks way better in the trailers and the released version. I'm glad it's not the other way around though, really glad.

 

I was diggin' in old files at gta4.net, before IV was released, these things are taken directly from late 2007/early 2008 magazines and previews.

  • A second character called Dwayne Ford is introduced, who just got out of prison. (Dwayne Forge's beta surname or just misspelled?)
  • The game clock is no longer one minute = one hour. It is now two minutes = one hour. So days now last longer. (AFAIK, 1 real life minute = 1 in-game hour...)
  • The new targetting system was described. There are eight purple segments in the target circle that make up someone's health, which you get when you're locked on - during free aiming you don't get the indicator. (Purple?...)
  • The cellphone can be used to listen to radio stations, so now you can listen to music at any time. (I think this was also cut from GTA V)
  • One button press will get you into a car. A second button press is required to start up the car's engine. (Interesting...)
  • You can find "useful things" in cars that you hijack. (What?)
  • Major collisions on motorbikes cause the helmet to fall off. You can see it fall onto the ground. (I haven't seen this, is it still there?)
  • You can pause and select a destination on the full-size map, which is then reflected on the radar. This marks the route out in blue. (Now it's green, blue is used in missions)
  • Dropped weapons and other items have a yellow halo around them. (Already known, but...)
  • When GTA IV was first being planned, Aaron Garbut (Rockstar North's art director) unveiled an enormous map featuring Liberty City surrounded by countryside the size of New York state. This "megamap" seemed the logical step after San Andreas, but R* soon decided to change their focus, and work on creating a larger GTA experience instead of just a larger map. (Mmmrghhhh)
  • When selecting a contact on your mobile phone, a list of several commands are made available to the player, such as "meet me here" etc. (The options now are "Call", the special reward and the mini-games and activities)
  • Niko can freely climb wherever possible telephone poles, fire escapes etc.
  • Niko will be able to climb and descend exterior fire escapes and some meetings will take place high in the office buildings of skyscrapers. It's said that from on top of them you'll be able to throw people off. (Is it just "manually" or a cut feature?)
  • "Fun ridiculous" weapons is said to be in the game, because R* is not going too "naturalistic". (Hmm)
  • I didn’t see Niko climb a ladder, per se, but I did see him ascend a telephone pole to get a bird’s eye view of Liberty City. He didn’t climb up it like a gorilla, however. He simply pulled himself up on the series of rungs on the pole. This feat was actually quite impressive. You could clearly see his weight transfer from side to side as he moved up the pole.

  • When GTA IV was first being planned, Aaron Garbut (Rockstar North's art director) unveiled an enormous map featuring Liberty City surrounded by countryside the size of New York state. This "megamap" seemed the logical step after San Andreas, but R* soon decided to change their focus, and work on creating a larger GTA experience instead of just a larger map. (Mmmrghhhh)
  • When selecting a contact on your mobile phone, a list of several commands are made available to the player, such as "meet me here" etc. (The options now are "Call", the special reward and the mini-games and activities)
  • Niko can freely climb wherever possible telephone poles, fire escapes etc.
  • Niko will be able to climb and descend exterior fire escapes and some meetings will take place high in the office buildings of skyscrapers. It's said that from on top of them you'll be able to throw people off. (Is it just "manually" or a cut feature?)
  • "Fun ridiculous" weapons is said to be in the game, because R* is not going too "naturalistic". (Hmm)
  • I didnt see Niko climb a ladder, per se, but I did see him ascend a telephone pole to get a birds eye view of Liberty City. He didnt climb up it like a gorilla, however. He simply pulled himself up on the series of rungs on the pole. This feat was actually quite impressive. You could clearly see his weight transfer from side to side as he moved up the pole.

  • Work on the game started right after the release of GTA: San Andreas in November 2004.

Seems like the pole climbing was pretty advanced. It's weird how they cut it so late. About the useful things in cars, I think it could have been like Watch Dogs (or was it Sleeping Dogs?), where you can find guns and money on cars. I don't think that the throwing people part is true. It seems to be in the same vein of putting bikes and stuff in the backs of pickup trucks that was mentioned in V previews.

Man that cut TLAD content pisses me off, that episode had less stuff to do than IV and TBoGT. Which sucked.

 

 

Seems like the pole climbing was pretty advanced. It's weird how they cut it so late. About the useful things in cars, I think it could have been like Watch Dogs (or was it Sleeping Dogs?), where you can find guns and money on cars. I don't think that the throwing people part is true. It seems to be in the same vein of putting bikes and stuff in the backs of pickup trucks that was mentioned in V previews.

THIS!!!! Also I remember reading an interview in a magazine with a guy from Rockstar in 2007. He said that there was going to be a minigame featuring Niko playing around with the car's cables to make it start if the car was stolen.

I assume that you had a key for Roman's taxis and such.

Remember Jeff's 2nd random encounter mission? He passes Niko the keys for the Blista. This might probably support that theory.

As you can see the "rungs" go all the way to the bottom of the pole unlike every other pole, (I haven't actually bothered to look at every single one, this was a spontaneous find, but I think this is the only one)

My guess is that these telephone poles were inspired by Assassin's Creed and its "viewpoints". They were just a way to get a nice view of the beautiful city Rockstar created and didn't have any special purpose to them. Or maybe to be used by creative people in missions, who knows :p

EBK7 in American.gxt has multiple strings referring to Goatherd. I'm not sure if they are used in the final game, but I know that Goatherd isn't a neighborhood in the final build.

I cannot remember exact source, but someone from Rockstar told in interview that quite large amount of land was cut from the game when it was around 60% complete. It was landmass around Bohan region I guess.

I would be glad if someone can correct me or provide additional info about that.
