There was an open world game that was coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 called Dirty Harry, based of the movie franchise starring Clint Eastwood. It ended up being cancelled due to technical problems. I really think Rockstar should make a game like this, as I personally love the Dirty Harry series.

It reminds me of all those generic movie-based PS2 games they used to make.

Games of movies were never good.

The Godfather and Scarface: The World is Yours were pretty awesome. Captain America for Xbox 360 is pretty good too. Then there are games like Aliens vs Predator, GoldenEye, Spider-Man 2, Chronicles of Riddick, King Kong and a few of the LoTR games. Also that Wolverine game from a few years ago was also pretty sweet. Better than the movie, actually. And what about Rockstar's The Warriors?

And last but not least, a game that is officially a movie-tie in, but it's actually based more on the comic books - The Punisher from 2005, starring Thomas Jane as Frank Castle. One of the best third person shooters ever.

Harry's character in the video game doesn't look much like the movie version, dated graphics aside. Perhaps the character's appearance was still a work in progress.

Not sure how a video game version of the movie would have really turned out, anyway. Since you'd be a cop, the restrictions during free roam might've been similar to L.A. Noire's, as I doubt they would let you run around and blast random pedestrians with a .44 magnum. :p

Game with Harry f*cking Callahan? f*cking sold. Too bad it got scrubbed.. I remember hearing about this ages ago though.

To be honest, I don't think they make enough games from movies. But companies go for more popular modern movies because of their popularity and box office success. As Yokel said, there are some great games made from movies.. but games like this would be awesome, especially older movies. Because I don't think there's a soul out there that doesn't know about Clint Beastwood and his .44 .. I wouldn't care if it looked like a PS2 era game, I'd play the hell out of it.

Any word on what the technical issues were? Sounds more to me that they scratched the budget off instead and poured the money into a more successful title or Collective finally shut it's doors or got bought out. Though The Collective doesn't have a very impressive resume.. DaVinci Code, Star Wars Ep III and that stupid ass Mark Ecko game are the only games I can recall that they've made. Personally, I did like the DaVinci Code game, was neat. Those were the type of games I would rent when I played and finished most the AAA titles during that time.

Update: Just read up, Collective merged with Shiny Entertainment (makers of Earthworm Jim and all that) and then they merge with another company, Foundation 9 and founded Double Helix games.. which made acouple games so far, nothing noteworthy though.

Silent Hill: Homecoming

GI Joe: Rise of Cobra

Green Lantern game

Battleship game (probably the movie)

Killer Instinct

So I guess we can for sure keep Dirty Harry off our lists of any upcoming releases.. they seem adamant on sticking to newer and more modern movies and what not.

I would play that even if it was broken and terrible. Couldn't have been worse than Ride To Hell and I suffered through that one for a laugh. (and a few tears)

Yeah, if anyone could nail it, I think Rockstar could. Since they did the cult Warriors movie game, which was actually fun, I think they could do a pretty swell job with this. I might even contact them and suggest it.. probably just end up in the bin with the rest of our suggestions but worth a shot. Maybe one of the studio heads will have a light bulb light up.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Pulp Fiction game either.

Yeah, too bad the trailer was all CG and nothing from the game itself.

I was thinking the same. That was more a proof of concept than anything.

Well the Rockstar Feedback sometimes actually respond to you , there are only two people I know who actually responded to me with real words , not some copy paste text that most of the time they do so.

One guy is known as Tom and the other is Ben , both actually respond and told me that they shared the ideas to the heads of Rockstar North and San Diego , there is another guy who I suggested a Max Payne movies series for and was excited for the idea. Sometimes you just have to find the right people to talk to and give them your ideas.

I really liked that game, but mostly for the Scarface feeling, Tony's quotes and the Miami 80s setting. Gameplay wise it was still on an average level at that time.
