I genuinely believe they have given up on last gen consoles and this is where I agree with what you're saying; they are throwing us bones.

They've realised there is so much more that can be done on Next Gen consoles that it is a complete waste releasing them on last gen. Which is why I think we will never see Hiests on last gen and only next gen.

Can't say I ain't massively excited for GTA on my PS4.

To all those as clueless as the OP:
Do you really think Rockstar are focusing on the old Gen consoles when they're trying to release a title on X1/Ps4 before the Christmas holiday?

I would expect it probably has something to do with GTAV/O being released on 3 new platforms soon

Seems pretty common sense to me.

Next gen version isn't being developed/ported by R* North, its R* Leads I believe. Also another one of R*'s studios is working on the updates for GTA Online (can't remember who). This really throws out the question that other commitments are removing the amount of work R* can put into Online as others seem to think.

Of course it's not their priority. When you get a bunch of free DLCs over 1 year filled with content that any talented programmer could have spit out in 4 weeks, you know that they don't give a crap.

When they hype every DLC months in advance and what we get is 2 new cars and some clothes that take 1 day to create you know that they don't give a crap.

On the contrary, because of the amount of bugs we get when even small things are changed I'd say a talented programmer would purposely take a LOT longer than 4 weeks for anything that's been added thus far, as they'd want to ensure that they don't break a bunch of other stuff at the same time.  It appears to me that the core application was written by inexperienced developers and now it's a nightmare to plug anything new into it.

the same reason there are (almost) no MMO's on last gen consoles. There isn't enough power.
Wait for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC release and you will see what I mean. GTA Online will then reach out to start a flourishing life, which just isn't possible on last gen consoles.

Also, the far majority of Rockstar is now working on the New Generation release of GTA V and GTA Online. When these are released, we will probably see a big increase in GTA Online DLC quality. Quantity of updates will probably stay the same though.

You know what this implied Rockstar as?

An irresponsible company.

They planned the game for PS3. They should have calculated if PS3/360 power can be strong enough to carry their grand plan. Now if they have realized their design can't be delivered on PS3/360, then they shouldn't have advertised it or even release the game.

Honestly, they can't run away and tell us PS3/360 buyers "Sorry guys, go buy PS4/XBone/PC version if you wanna play as what we have advertised for PS3/360". Wouldn't be surprised if one day they're crapped to sh*t and left with digital bloodlust kiddos as their fans.

well, to be realistic, I think that within the next year everyone should buy a next gen console.

Ubisoft already said that they stop with new games, hell, I think almost any company won't make new games for the last generation consoles after this year.

They are just old, and I think it is safe to say that most gamers will have a new console when it has been released for two years. -> end 2015 I talk about right now.

And if so is the prediction, then they shouldn't have had it released for PS3/360. Or don't advertised crap they can't even backup with these PS3/360 consoles.

Again, if they want people to enjoy and experience what they advertised for PS3/360 in PS4/Xbone version, that means they are snakes. This is very obviously wrong move of business, man. I wonder how can people actually tolerate this move??? Now I understand why game industry has changed and going to even more darker day by day.

they are releasing it on next gen.  thats why we are screwed.  i wish they never announced it, we probably would of had heists by now.

And how exactly makes not announcing something equal getting heists?

Their main focus right now is on current gen and PC versions of GTAV and its online variant, a new graphics engine for GTA VI and their more ambitious project of Red Dead Online. They are stringing old gen along for the cash.

This is from a source close to the action that I can't reveal.

My one and only hope is that next gen allows for more players per lobby. Computer game lord let it be true.

I think it's reasonable to expect it will go to 32 players per lobby. The PC version of GTA IV also had 32 players per lobby vs. 16 players on the consoles.
