Hell there!

I'm not here to hate/rant - just here to ask an honest question, which I guess has a lot of answers to it. Industry, economy, opinions, taste, time, patience etc...there's lost of angles to the phenomenon that is GTA Online....let's take some time to gather and share thoughts on it. Let's speculate for a while shall we?

Okay, soooo:

WHY exactly do we, the players, the customers, get this feeling like R* is just throwing us a small bone once in a while and not giving GTA 100 % attention, as we'd love to see them do. Hmmm, maybe they do and we're just ungrateful little bastards who don't understand what it takes to make the magic happen....but I don't think it's the majority of players thinking that way.

Again, maybe it's just me having this feeling/point of view (GTA Online kind of being abandoned and kept alive artificially)...but I don't think so. I don't play GTA Online that much, not intensively really and certainly not on regular basis. I'd like to but I ain't got that much time on my hands, unfortunately. I guess people who play regularly know best what I mean. Problems, issues, missing (needed) content...there's more one could add, I guess.

Anyhow, you all know that GTA Online has soooo much potential, but seemingly, instead of reaching into it and tapping that source of epicness, something always gets in the way...and for some reason I think R* has already "given up" on it.

What I'd like to ask you, is what you think could be the reason for the current state GTA online is in. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong...if there's absolutely nothing wrong with GTA Online and you're totally content with the content and so on...feel free to express that aswell.

SO, what is it? the modders? missing content? Is R* already working on another game and has to elocate most of their resources to it? The next Red Dead title?

I'll add more thoughts in the future...making myself clearer than i have now, possibly.

Anyway, hoping to get some fruitful discussion going. Peace out for now!

Of course, Rockstar North is not putting their time into a new Read Dead title since that's San Diego's job.

I'm pretty sure it's just ineptitude on Rockstars end; it's almost as if they hire people exclusively who have negative IQ.

To all those as clueless as the OP:
Do you really think Rockstar are focusing on the old Gen consoles when they're trying to release a title on X1/Ps4 before the Christmas holiday?

Come on, the devs worked a lot of years on this. Not trying to sound like a brown noser, but they deserve to slow it down, especially since they are working on next gen as well. The only thing that should have been receiving 100% focus is heists as that was advertised in the marketing before the game was even released. Apart from that, I'm kinda okay with the pace of dlc releases. I just hope it picks up a bit more after pc/ps4/xbone versions are released, and even then, I'm sure the current gens online will start dwindling to save room for next gen.

I think they're letting online get infested with hackers then release a perfect version on next gen. They've still completely ditched story mode and they could've done a lot more with it than they did.

GTA games takes many years in the making and Rockstar has always been way ahead in their planning. For instance, immediately after the release of GTA III, Rockstar started the development of GTA Vice City. And thats how its been after that. You can rest assure that main story for next GTA is pretty much already finished with development already going on.

Rockstar/Take 2 are huge and its they can allocate resources where needed.

I do think you are right though, as a entertainment company creating video games its not important to be several steps ahead, it is vital to survive. Some of that thinking can collide quite severly with the gamer community's opinions, for instance, Rockstar probably sees the PS3/X360 as a dead platform and have probably been redirecting their staff to get into the PS4/XOnes abilities and start working using those platforms. Sony has very close bond with them so Im sure they had access to PS4 technology way before it was available on the market, might be the same for XOne/Microsoft as well.

I would expect it probably has something to do with GTAV/O being released on 3 new platforms soon

Seems pretty common sense to me.

Lets all keep in mind we are talking about a multinational, fortune 500 (At the least) company.  Atleast 8 studios over various nations and atleast 1000 employees.  We are talking about a game that originally started development in 09.

I think you need to rephrase this: the old-gen version of GTA Online is not their top priority anymore. They've just been trowing bones at their players while their focus has been on the development of the next-gen version, which will be the real deal.

This.  I wouldn't be surprised if GTA Online gets a huge update once Next Gen comes out since it seems like they realized that work into GTA Online is a waste on old gen platforms.

I'm not saying old gen isn't going to get anything after next gen comes out, just that they're saving it for that so it gets people with a PS4/X1 to re-buy.

No I really think it's not about GTA at all, I think it's due to another franchise, as in Red Dead. Look at those updates nobody wants...they could have just kept that flight school for themselves and noone would have ever missed it.

Now you've said it I am tempted to say you are right, that they ARE just 'throwing us a bone' while the true energy goes into refining the game for next gen release which, lets face it would be their priority now.

They are possibly looking at another billion dollar injection - vs what: $500K in cash cards by offering new sh*t on this version?

Red Dead is probably in the machine, and that's worth a sh*tload of dollar too but GTA next gen is pretty much there waiting to be paid for.

My one and only hope is that next gen allows for more players per lobby. Computer game lord let it be true.

there's lost of angles to the phenomenon that is GTA Online...

hate to say it but gta online is not a phenomenon... World of Warcraft now thats a phenomenon something rockstar wish they can make of gta online

Hmmm, maybe they do and we're just ungrateful little bastards who don't understand what it takes to make the magic happen....but I don't think it's the majority of players thinking that way.

they are throwing small bones its what they are doing the hungry dog that is gta v fan base needs something to chew on they even hate it but still chew the hell out of the free DLC

GTA Online has soooo much potential, but seemingly, instead of reaching into it and tapping that source of epicness, something always gets in the way...and for some reason I think R* has already "given up" on it.

don't really see them " giving up " when its also coming to next gen any time soon

What I'd like to ask you, is what you think could be the reason for the current state GTA online is in. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong...if there's absolutely nothing wrong with GTA Online and you're totally content with the content and so on...feel free to express that aswell.

SO, what is it?

nothing wrong with gta online? hold up there people lets get all of gta onlines bugs fixed first then DLC that's the way I see it

Pretty much this.  Plus they can potentially sell the game to the same person twice so its in their interest to shift focus.  If I was a betting man I would say Heists will come out on PC/PS4/Xbone before PS3/Xbox but some would say I was being cynical. ;)

It's pretty obvious - they're holding out for the next gen versions. Once you buy the game again and they have double of your money and better processing power then they'll release all the good sh*t.

the same reason there are (almost) no MMO's on last gen consoles. There isn't enough power.
Wait for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC release and you will see what I mean. GTA Online will then reach out to start a flourishing life, which just isn't possible on last gen consoles.

Also, the far majority of Rockstar is now working on the New Generation release of GTA V and GTA Online. When these are released, we will probably see a big increase in GTA Online DLC quality. Quantity of updates will probably stay the same though.

33 million copies of the game sold on PS3/360...and ONLY 13 million consoles (10 PS4 & 3 confirmed for Xbox One), taking into consideration that some people have both new consoles and/or already own GTA V for PS3/360 and don't want to buy it again or are done playing the game...it's not going to be any different gameplay between consoles, the majority of players are always going to be on PS3/360...

...and obviously they're not selling 11 million copies on launch day like almost a year ago, there's barely that many consoles sold, they probably won't sell 11 million copies total

You know what this implied Rockstar as?

An irresponsible company.

They planned the game for PS3. They should have calculated if PS3/360 power can be strong enough to carry their grand plan. Now if they have realized their design can't be delivered on PS3/360, then they shouldn't have advertised it or even release the game.

Honestly, they can't run away and tell us PS3/360 buyers "Sorry guys, go buy PS4/XBone/PC version if you wanna play as what we have advertised for PS3/360". Wouldn't be surprised if one day they're crapped to sh*t and left with digital bloodlust kiddos as their fans.

well, to be realistic, I think that within the next year everyone should buy a next gen console.

Ubisoft already said that they stop with new games, hell, I think almost any company won't make new games for the last generation consoles after this year.

They are just old, and I think it is safe to say that most gamers will have a new console when it has been released for two years. -> end 2015 I talk about right now.

Of course it's not their priority. When you get a bunch of free DLCs over 1 year filled with content that any talented programmer could have spit out in 4 weeks, you know that they don't give a crap.

When they hype every DLC months in advance and what we get is 2 new cars and some clothes that take 1 day to create you know that they don't give a crap.
