Downloading now. Actually it is probably installed by now but I'm away from my computer doing stupid chores. I sense a long night ahead.

Yeah, it's a pretty small install, 1.5GB I believe. Pretty impressive considering the depth of the game compared to others...also, release trailer:

It's just under 3.5 GB, the download at least.

Ended up buying it, hope my fears that this is still Cities in Motion 2 heavily under the hood don't hold true.

Played it for about 2 hours earlier today. Quite good! Just make sure you do not screw up the basics at the beginning. My first time, I expanded too quickly. Second time, I spent so much money setting up basic utilities and infrastructure, that by the time it came to zone residential, connect everything, I had simply run out of money.

Third time was the charm, however. Started a new city, and it's been going strong since. 10,000 citizens, earning 5,000 weekly, and expanded to 4 tiles, I do believe. Plan to set up more industry; agriculture, forestry.

I love the sense of progression you get with this game. That was something I never had with SimCity (2013). I found with that game, once you hit a certain ceiling - be it map size, resources - that was just it. I never felt progression or a sense of achievement. Not like I feel with Cities. It's a lot of fun to build up your city and unlock new things as a reward.

Little mistakes really do make you pay. For instance, I forgot to connect one little stretch of road to my industry district. It was so minor, you wouldn't even notice unless you looked. My coal plant as a result was not getting coal deliveries, my city ran out of power. Little things like that make you pay, which is also quite fun and adds to the longevity of the game.

I recommend this one. I really think they delivered.

Audiophile, how does it compare to Banished in terms of being unforgiven?

I just used the GTA V pre-order money to buy Cities: Skylines. CO deserves this money for respecting the PC gamers and for being ultra-transparent on this game development, unlike R*....

100% installed and I'll start building the "Cidade Deliciosa Cara"

Audiophile, how does it compare to Banished in terms of being unforgiven?

Yeah, no, it's definitely not Banished level. Banished was just ridiculous. I stopped playing it, which was such a shame because I'd looked forward to it for quite some time.

With Cities, you just have to not expand too quickly. Make sure you have electricity and water up. Keep an eye on those levels as you expand. It's best to start small and build everything up from there. I did quite well. I placed my water and sewage pumps, made sure I had pipes going to where I'd laid down some roads for residential zones, then I put up a coal plant and placed a small line of power...lines. Those have been powering my city since, with the addition of wind turbines.

Here is what an early version of my city looked like. I have an appointment to go to in a half hour, so I can't provide a screen of what it looks like now.

mccRt5G.jpgPrimrose District is where I started a little agricultural district.

I am not the best when it comes to city layout, but with time I will get better. Especially with a game that is as fun and rewarding as this one has been, thus far. I definitely need to improve traffic.

It feels just like sim city of old.

I'm totally loving it and just now took my first break from play.

My city, currently. Doing quite well!

HGC2HTE.jpg

Have a mining sector up and a forestry sector. It's not that nice looking of a city but right now, I am mostly focusing on learning the game. I tried to make some bus stops and failed horribly. Only have a metro system up and running.

My shot above is from my starter city.  I was able to sustain pretty easy.  I think the basic laws and rules of sim city building apply as always...Thank goodness.

sh*t is gonna get crazy once these cities grow into huge metropolises.

I should be able to first play the game later tonight, and I'm pumped!

If it even runs on my laptop, that is.

Game looks fantastic. How easy is it to get power and water to your town? I always had trouble with that in Sim City games.

Water - still uses pumps, pipes, and towers. Pretty much simcity3k with laying pipes that cover a wide radius around the pipe. It also feels like water and power 'stretch' a bit further than traditional sim city.

How is the game running for all of peeps? (framerates, quality settings, etc. at different city sizes)

Specs too pls thanks

Hopefully it doesn't run like Cities XL, bringing even high-end hardware to its knees with big cities?

I'd hope a GTX 970/R9 290x could handle large cities at max. settings. That's what I may be building a machine with in June

Running it on the highest settings at 1920 x 1080. So far, so good. You can see my city size from what I posted up there. In fact, I have since expanded downwards and reached about 20-21K in citizens.

Specs:

8.1 64

i5 -4590 3.30GHz

GTX 750 1GB (I criey, need to upgrade this)

8 GB's RAM

Be interesting to see how it holds up as my city grows. I don't expect I'll have problems, however. These sorts of games are usually more CPU and RAM intensive. I'm fine on those fronts. Just my GPU I need to upgrade, though it handles games pretty well. Just not future-proof.

I've maxed the configs and the game is running smoothly. The only problem is I don't know how to disable DOF, I hate that sh*t.

Really liking the look of this and from what I'm hearing from you guys. So staypuft can you make a road system then save it as a prefab or did you 3d model that and import into the game?

What's with the boxes? Does it limit your city size like SimCity?

Yeah as standard there is an extra 8 boxes you can unlock from your initial starting box. Apparently there's a mod that unlocks 25 box's but is not officially supported as game experience may vary if you're using a RM nimbus.

The former - you get given a square, road tools and tree tools, you can save whatever you've made and use it just like any other in-game object.

As for other assets, you can import 3D models as .fbx's for a completely custom model (and change a load of parameters for its use in gameplay, e.g. cost and electricity usage for a building) but you can also edit vanilla assets, for things like colour or plopping down small props like billboards and benches for buildings. You can also edit maps with height maps, in-game terrain modifying tools, plopping down trees, water and the prebuilt motorways and the like (note the once you've started there's no terrain editing as of yet).

You can also edit parks and trees, and you're meant to be able to edit vehicles and people (models, mostly) but their website says it's not supported yet.

Might even be better than a diamond in the rough. Might be a new king. And not like one of those evil kings.

You want to be able to do everything - and you can't. You want to make everyone happy - and you can't. Bad decisions will haunt you.

It is also very deep. From having to make sure your dam is built perfect with eveything into consideration to realizing you have to deal with dead bodies in the streets. Don't put you sh*t pump too close to your drinking water or your people wil be drinking sh*t and die.

Oh...and holy sh*t on the modding. There are aleady thousands of mods available. Neat.

Game is cool. I haven't missed any (day one)sim release since the very first SimCity

Very nearly KO'd my town this morning, hah. I had the game on the highest speed to pass the time, then decided to renovate some roads to try and help with the traffic flow, doing so while still on the highest speed. What happens? I knock out the powerline connecting my districts, which results in one whole residential/commercial district being without power. Which I only notice after the entire district is abandoned and my money is in negative.

Managed to revert the damage (mostly) but that set me back quite a bit.
