I'm not sure how many people have seen this mod but basically it removes water from the entire map allowing you to freely explore the ocean floor.

The work R* put into mapping out the sea bed is amazing and i never really appreciated just how much until i saw this mod. The underwater canyons seen at the mouth of the river running through raton canyon are enormous.

Alamo sea drained really makes blaine county look like a far more realistically scaled desert. It's a shame R* made such detailed landscapes that people will rarely see or appreciate fully.

Watching other youtube videos of this mod gives the map a scale that seems to dwarf what we currently have without the ocean floor visible.

I still love the gta v map and am satisfied with the size but seeing this honestly makes me wish they had just devoted that ocean geography to the desert and canyons to give them a stronger sense of isolation and vastness.

This in no way a knock on the map, a plug for the mod or a complaint thread but just interested to see what everyone else thought about it all.

I watched this a few days ago, and like you said, the amount of detail R* put into the sea floor is amazing. If only they put half of the effort from the sea to the land, it would have been amazing.

I guess that's the vast amount of countryside we've been asking for.

I've seen the city. They did. I've seen the country side. They did.

Deep ocean underwater "desert" looks way better than the actual desert we have.

oh there's the desert, it's under water. Also, did anyone else laugh at the fact there's mountains underwater too.

You bunch of IDIOTS don't know what you are complaining about.

The reason why Rockstar has made the underwater portion of the map more detailed than the surface is that there are less things going on down the sea, compared to the surface which is full of pedestrians, traffic, wildlife, and buildings. Also, don't forget that the underwater portion employs a "diver's vision"-like draw distance.

Even without water, the ocean is still terrifying.

The seafloor reminded me of red dead redemptions map. Like I literally wouldn't be surprised if sections of seafloor are reused sections of landscape from rdr.
Would have save tons of time and money to just crop sections of rdr's map, raise saturation, then add foliage and you got a sea floor.

Trippy. Things coming out of the grey æther. Now I see why it's so dark down there.

Yeah that's the first thing i thought when i saw the chopper drop down at the end like holy sh*t there is practically a grand canyon down there. I've used the sub around that area but the darkness hides the scale of the trenches.

Honestly I don't understand all the "wow the detail they've put in the underwater"... basically that is the same thing as the dry land, only with different vegetation, textures but covered by water. You say it was unnecessary just because it's covered by water but the effort was the same as making the rest of the map, they just changed the assets, instead of walking people, animals and cars there are aquatic animals and npc's swimming, the rest is a coverage of liquid material with pretty shaders on the top. They made this to make it more realistic and immersive, in case they didn't they could have created more land that would be exactly the same process.

It's not like they handcrafted the ocean floor, it's generic terrain with specific assets according to the environment.

Since the underwater is never loaded until the player is actually close to it, similar to an interior, it lets Rockstar put a ton of detail into it without taxing the hardware in comparisan to stuff like mount Chilliad where they have to make LODs for since that stuff is always visible.
