Like, if it was set in the 50's, 60's or 70's.

I wouldn't mind seeing a late 70s Carcer City. You know, dying, decaying industries, rising rust belt crime, etc. Perfect recipe for destruction.

And the music would be groovy too:

I wouldn't mind any previous era provided they stick to the GTA formula.

I'd love a 70s San Fierro, as I've stated once. But seeing the period overall would be great, something not tackled before.

A game in the 70's would be awesome. I would only see this as a spin off, not the main series.  The main series is focusing on modern society and the future, but spin offs could be from the past.

70's would be fine, as long as it's set in a new city.

I'd definitely welcome a game set in 70's or 60's. Maybe even earlier, but I think for GTA 50's is the limit. I think games set in earlier eras are easier to create a good atmosphere due to our polished picture of what it was like back then. For example everyone only remembers 80's Miami was weird bright colored clothes, synth pop music and a lot of drugs thanks to movies and TV shows that preserve that as ''history''. So VC had an easy time creating just that, same with SA.

So set a game in the 60's and there's a great excuse to put in all the hippy jokes that were ever though off, and some nice psychodelic funk or whatever hippies like. I'd definitely like it if they went back in time for the next one, there simply isn't enough of stuff to make fun of in current time any more for GTA, so they need a break from it to feel fresh later on.

I've said it a million times, San Fierro/Oakland parody/Northern SA in the 70's. You had the death of the area's major hippie movement, the birth of gay rights, Chinese gangs running a muck, Oakland's ghetto becoming increasingly dangerous (ripe for a classic blaxploitation parody), the assassination of SF's mayor, a major boom in construction, the heartland of pissed off veterans creating biker gangs, the birth of Apple and Microsoft, small time anti-capitalist organisations pulling off bank heists, sh*t tons of drugs, a booming porn industry, the list goes on. It's the most relevant place to use for a 70's game, other than maybe LC (which I can't see used again for a while).

I feel that there's no better place and time period for the next GTA than the 70's and Northern SA. I'm not going to condone it, but if Rockstar wanted to LV could work in with the same map too since it was pretty hectic in the 70's (still I would perfer them to stick to Northern SA however).

It'd be a nice change from the previous GTAs.

This is me walking to the shop.

I love how the song from 0:23 ended up as Franklin's trailer music.

How would I feel about a GTA game in the 70s? I'd feel great about it.

I can't best Niko Vercetti's pitch for Northern San Andreas (get the thread up bud :^: ), but the seventies should and could be done in any range of locations, from Boston to Detroit; San Fran to Chicago; New York, Vegas or Miami if we're digging up old locales and putting a new spin on them.

Culture isn't exclusive to modern day. GTA in the seventies would offer up a soundtrack and feel to top even Vice City's, a range of characters to redefine Rockstar's depiction of satire.

I wouldn't really like it. A GTA in the 90's/early 2000's would be better.

While I'd still love a 70s GTa, I'd love one like in the mid 90s. You could still have the in-game internet, but with parodies of early crappy-looking Web 1.0 websites.

Early 00s would also be interesting, just to contrast to GTA III which was actually released in 2001 - to see how actual period representation compares to nostalgic period representation.

70's GTA? I'm down with that for sure. Paris in the early 70's would be interesting with story based on the French Connection.

A 60's GTA based in Boston with the Irish mob war would be interesting too.

I want to be black cop in 70s! Yeah, the world was so racist back then, I'd love to kick some racist asses while being a corrupt cop!

70's Liberty City with inspirations and references from such classic films as

Pacino's "Serpico" (1973) and De Niro's "Taxi Driver" (1976) sounds like a sweet deal to me .:pp

Wouldn't a hippie protagonist defeat the purpose of GTA?

As long as we have a radio in a car every period is good. Which means 30's or later is ok. I would like to see some GTAs set in 70's and even in the future. I like 70's in Driver parallel lines, so I'd love 70's in GTA.
