This post has some issues.

Since one particular user wants to designate a whole topic to the "progression" era of Need for Speed, I decided to edit my NFS:HP2 topic into a "classical" era NFS discussion topic.

Feel free to discuss any of these games:

The Need for Speed
Need for Speed II
Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit
Need for Speed: High Stakes
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2

You may now discuss.

Yeah, I was like 'really EA.. really' then did a double read. They've already ruined the franchise, don't think they could do much more damage.

But HP2 was probably my favorite NFS of all-time. That's another thing after watching the gameplay vid up there.. I miss how EA had that Trax sh*t.. where you could listen to quite afew legit tracks while playing. Their sports games were the best, had some rather decent music.

I set up my PS2 last night just to play this again. Gotta say, tearing around National Forest in a Ferrari F50 brought back a lot of memories, especially while this was playing:

After watching some gameplay vids on this.. I can actually remember some of the turns and all on some of the tracks. I guess I'll have to hook up my PS2 again as well.

I came close to buying the latest Hot Pursuit when it was released but they just added too much tech stuff for me.. EMP's and all that, meh. Not my style.. but if NFS do go back to Hot Pursuit again, I hope they follow the older HP's.. but to be honest, I'm just hoping another Shift is on the horizon.. I so miss those!

The next Shift could just possibly use the new Frostbite engine, like The Run, and Rivals.

EDIT: Really irritated about the OP. Nothing I do can fix it.

I doubt there'll be another Shift. The studio that worked on Shift are now doing Project CARS. They broke off from EA :)

As for the Frostbite engine, it's a pretty terrible engine for a racing game. Rivals was plagued with glitches, streaming issues, everything. A huge mess of a game.

If SMS were to do another Shift though, they'd probably use their own Madness engine.

It sucks Shift went though. I played the first Shift quite a bit, I don't remember it too much but I think there was a decal editor? I remember having an RX7 baed on the r3ACT Team Sessions RX7 from ProStreet.

If SMS do another Shift, I hope they do it in the same style as ProStreet. Not the car handling or anything, just the themee and the way PS plays out. The way the cars look, the way tracks have all these cool decorations, having the racedays where you see loads of people with the announcer and stuff, that really made the game feel alive.
