Bit of a weird issue I have. This started a while ago and so far nothing has fixed it.

So far I've tried:

Reinstalling the game

Deleting the files by hand, removing every trace of the game (including registry entries)

Reinstalling the graphics driver (Radeon HD 4850)

Reinstalling DirectX

Testing saves on my laptop. They work fine, no issues.

This started happening after I decided to screw around with handling.cfg. Restoring it to the stock setting from a reinstall or copied from my laptop didn't solve the issue. I don't believe this is an issue with file permissions as I've already tried removing the San Andreas folder from program files and reinstalling to recreate everything.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried to install in another directory, 'C' instead of 'program', for example?...

I did. I also tried running it off my external hard drive with the same result.

This is weird indeed. I had a pretty similiar issue with the wheels, the only way I can elaborate is that never set more than 5 gears for a vehicle in the handling.cfg, using 6 gears(and above) caused me a similiar issue to this.
