"An Algerian passenger plane has reportedly disappeared from radar while flying from the West African country of Burkina Faso.

The airliner carrying 110 passengers and six crew was flying from Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou to Algiers when it vanished around 50 minutes into the flight.

"In keeping with procedures, Air Algerie has launched its emergency plan," Algeria's APS state news agency quoted the airline as saying.

Flight AH5017 is owned by Spanish private airline Swiftair and operated by Air Algerie.

Swiftair said the aircraft took off from Burkina Faso at 1.17am local time and was supposed to land in Algiers at 5.10am local time but never reached its destination.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-83's flight path was not immediately clear."

This is the 3rd plane this month to have something bad happen to it.

Well that's a surprise. It's not Malaysian Airlines.

For real though, all these plane disasters lately are making me depressed.

My mom is going on vacation near the end of August.

Uhhh....well she's not Malaysia Airlines or any of these smaller ones we have been hearing about in the news lately.

But really, what the hell has been going on lately?

We should ban jetliners to keep this from happening.

This is starting to get a bit too coincidental, now when i think when flying, i now think i will pass and some big Airline companies are not the best either, which makes me just a little worried (Quantas) .

Think Qantas has the lowest incident rate of basically any airline in the world. Don't think there's ever been a fatal accident involving a Qantas airliner in their near-100 year operating history.

Not a good month for air travel.

Reuters!? They were first on scene when MH17 crashed too! And yet these people who work for an international news agency have no videocamera to show us? I propose that Reuters is downing aircraft on purpose, then being first on scene to get news coverage......

Another one? First in the Indian Ocean, then in Ukraine, then in Taiwan and now this one.

Rest in peace the victims, and my condolences to the families.

Dear scientists, it's really time for inventing teleportation now. Please hurry.

Just coincidence and the plane is still super safe. I will keep on flying in planes without any worries. The only worry I have before entering a plane is if there's enough space for my legs.

I know it's safer, it's just the fact that I'm in a man-made contraption that can fly scares me.

What if the landing gear failed to open!? What if the pilot was drunk?
WHAT IF WHAT IF?

and all these recent incidents do nothing but amplify my rational or not so irrational fear.

Don't worry. To take a plane is safer than taking a car. Are you afraid of taking a car almost everyday? Everyday thousands and thousands of planes arrive their destinations without any problem. Also every plane is checked by technicians before taking off. Even if a bulb doesn't work, the plane doesn't take off before it's repaired. The security is the most important issue for a plane company.

Enjoy in Malaysia.

Taking a plane is much safer than taking a car however if your'e in a car crash you have a much higher rate of survival than if your'e in a plane crash.

That depends very much on the type of plane crash. In flight structural failures = high fatalities. Runway for overshoots at most airports = no fatalities.

All these plane crashes are going on, while I'm supposed to be taking a cross country flight to California next week...

f*ck.

And my heart goes out to the families of those affected, it must be such a shock to hear when plane travel is the safest way to travel.
