Hi. I used to play GTA IV (on PC) with the torrent version ( not from steam, got it for free )

and then the steam summer sale has come. i purchased GTA IV for PC for around $6. I downloaded it and could go online. But i had some troubles too to log in at windows live, etc. I installed some things like windows live helper, etc but it made my GTA IV PC broken.

Now whenever i start my GTAIV, it says that GTAIV has stopped working. I tried to use the administrator but it still won't work. These r my specs.

Processor : Inter® Core ™ i5-2310 CPU @2.90 GHz (4CPUs), ~3.1Ghz

Memory : 8192 RAM or 8GB RAM

Direct X : Direct X 11

Display : NVIDIA GeForce GT640 ( 4000 Memory approx.)

Thankyou. Please help :)

When your game crashes and the 'Stopped Working' message appears, there is an icon for 'View Problem Details'. Click it, then Copy the whole log that you get and Paste it here.

Make sure DirectX components has been installed correctly. AFAIK those crashes may be caused by Visual C++ being corrupted.

Spoiler

AFAIK, GTA IV can only use Visual C++ 2008 SP1. Not 2005, not 2010.
