Have we misunderstood what 'Heists' are?

Do you think it's possible that what heists are going to be was misunderstood by GTA players from the start?

 

I think it's possible that heists were only ever supposed to be, what they were stated as being by R* - "Heist Missions". My interpretation of that is more missions alongside the Contact Missions we already have (just with a heist aspect to them). Not therefore some significant alternate job/game mode that sits alongside DMs/Missions/Races/etc...

 

On the basis that the above is true, why have R* delayed them so much?

 

Was the fact that players were expecting something much greater than what R* knew was coming, something to do with it? Did they feel obliged to meet players expectations of what Heists were going to be, so they scraped what they actually had ("Heist Missions") and re-branded something else as Heists, something that would have come out later on anyway (eg Cops 'n Crooks)?

I reckon it was just a typo. Some intern should have written 'players can host missions' but instead wrote 'players have Heist missions', and ever since then Rockstar have been a state of panic as they try to figure out how the hell to make Heists work online.

OT: Honestly, I've thought about this myself. It might be the same scenario as BF: Hardline (EA/Dice/Visceral actually delayed it to 2015 to work on it after the failure that is BF4).

 

But who knows. I don't really care about them anymore myself, unless we get them as a surprise, of course.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about heists at this point. What I'm hoping for is R* opening up mission creator for users and/or story mode expansion DLC.

Initially, they'll be simpler. But we do have plans to set up heists that could contain twenty individual components. i'm hoping that they will work like contact missions but with requirements that must be ticked off first ( in free roam)

you start in the heist room with a list of things needed and you collect/store them like simeons text 

then you can only start the heist if all the boxes have been filled regardless of who completed the assignments

and only people in the heist room count and can join

 

what they probably will be is a long ass version of The Los Santos Connection

No. Tunables indicate otherwise.

Edit: I don't think they were ever going to be simple missions. Its clear from recent tunables finds that they will be at least two part.

100% Yes. To R*, heists mean they would make all of us its Bottom Bitch---by  stupidly buying a half finished game last Oct and then TRULY BELIEVING this feature would be in the game......

Also, when playing Online with a character who only had a 6-car garaged apartment, I'd get messages from Lester telling me to upgrade my apartment because he'd have big jobs coming in.

My character with a ten-car garaged apartment never got that. Because said apartment has the planning room.

***Having said all that*** I can't rule out the possibility that Heists (if and when they ever arrive) won't be what they were originally planned to be.
