I've always had the feeling traffic is programmed to intentionally get in your way. Like I'll be driving along a street and a car will suddenly serve in front of me. Or I'll be walking across the road and once I'm within eyesight they floor it.

And I'm not talking about simply being on the road or crossing an intersection at the wrong moment, I'm talking about cars that purposely try to crash into you. Worse of all they keep blocking you after crashing.

Has anyone else noticed this?

i've had npc's get road rage at me, about a week ago i was driving with another player in my elegy to fort zancudo, i got rear ended three times by a minivan driver who rocketed into my car, i got out and shot and killed the npc with my combat mg, like the spineless worm he was.

I haven't really experienced it that much on GTA V. It used to happen all the time when crossing a bridge in GTA IV though which got really annoying.

Traffic in LS is brutal. I still think that out front of Beekers Garage, up in Paleto Bay is cursed. The traffic speeds up to a red. Ive seen countless rear-end, lock up crashes(hilarious). Trucks brings out the worst in car drivers.

Anyone have an explanation as to why Rockstar did this? I can't come up with anything other than just to annoy players. But then I again ask why? What do they have to gain by that?

Errrr geee maybe err because road hazards happen in real life with stupid drivers? Are all of you still on tricycle wheels or something?

Im an npc in GTA and i see this moron op judge judy speeding 180mph on the pavement & on the wrong side of the road, and he wonders why he crashes and makes this ridiculous thread.

My favorite part is when the game takes control over an NPC's car and starts dragging it along the road as the driver is slamming on the breaks. Then it either hits you or gets in your way just enough to make you crash in some other way.

I hate it when you're driving at max speed down a road, and a NPC Car magically spawns just before getting to the intersection.  And then either speeding up, or slowing down depending how you react, insuring you sideswipe it.

Drive within the speed limits and you will be okay, no crashes.

- Rev your car while waiting lights to turn green -> an AI will crash your ass.
- Drive 400 km/h in your Adder -> a rubber-banding Crown Victoria will ram you off the road driving 500 km/h.
- Driving on the Pacific Coast Hwy is a deathwish.

Rockstar did successful job making the traffic realistic, though. They managed to make it as annoying as it is in real life.

Oh, and the scripted traffic is absolutely terrible, god.

Also, rubber-banding needs to be removed. It's so dumb.

Its always been that way, just like real LA traffic. Try driving down Sunset Blvd in mid morning and see how many accidents you narrowly avoid.

Do LAPD officers also can catch up with you driving a Bugatti Veyron in full speed?

After playing for just a few minutes I realized not just the enemies, but the game itself is actively working against you.

You realize that irl if you were flying in and out of lanes at twice the speed of traffic, someone would eventually lane-change in front of you, not expecting anyone like you to be driving like a crackhead?
Imo, it's just realistic. It's only when they sideswipe you that it loses a bit of credibility. But then again, I've had people irl try to take the lane I'm in while I'm right next to them many times.

Gta logic - FIB grangers(=every cop car) have aimbot so they can ram and block you so the guys hanging out from the sides can kill you(also when in 5* pursuit when you are about to evade, a cop spawns right in front of you. Then when you turn and try to escape friendly NPC decides to switch lines and block you so the cop can see you and sh*t starts again)

I hate when they're going slow and you have a clear way past and then suddenly they're going 100mph right at you.

Traff*ck is intentionally getting in my way if I'm on a mission or try to escape the cops in free roam.

Some random sh*tpickle in a black FQ2 rear ended me when the car in front of me wouldn't turn. Other than that I've been slammed into by traffic that should have known I was occupying the spot they wished to enter.

Especially when you're doing a mission *cough* RR *cough* , the traffic go out of their way to crash into you

Last night I played a series of RR's with a good guy, and there were a couple of times when we were driving to Madrazo's, where an NPC driver when apesh*t and totally crashed us out and rammed us like a typical GTA0 racer.  It was crazier than the usual NPC aggression.

EDIT:  Actually, one of the times was when we were chasing down the document guy on the freeway.

I'm almost wondering if there are times when Rockstar devs actually take over an NPC (like the Agents in The Matrix) and do weird sh*t just to screw with us.   :p

These behaviors are triggered by the player's actions so expect them when you do certain things, I'll share some of my experiences to explain.

When doing RR traffic drives like normal until the first shot is fired. If I heard a shot near my car I promise I will go ape sh*t and slam on the gas. That's just realism.

When changing lanes like a maniac and driving against traffic last night a car changed lanes in front of me and we had a bad crash. Again it's just realism. If I look at my rear view mirror and see a chrome veyron doing 180 mph while switching lanes I wouldn't know what Lane he might be in when he passes by me and most likely I'd panic and switch lanes while hoping for the best. So do not wonder why the game is against us. Drive a panto and stop at every red light and respect traffic laws and no one will ever crash into you.

TLDR; realism, crazy players, scared pedestrians.

The difference:

IRL: I'm the driver in the traffic. It's green for me. I hear motor screaming and sirens, i turn my head to the noise source and i hit the brakes to avoid collision.
"Moron" i mutter, as the Lambo with feds in tow flash past.

Los Santos: I'm the traffic driver. It's green for me. I hear motor screaming, sirens blaring. My body tenses in anticipation. I turn my head to the source and see the Zentorno with feds in tow coming from my right. Maniacal smile hushes over my face, as i know how to perfectly time the acceleration so he crashes in my rear right fender. I carefully crawl into the crossing. He can't avoid me now. My head get smashed into the steering wheel. As my consciousness fades and i feel my warm blood trickle my hands down, i smile.
I did my job well.

The black sentinel xs guy has now built up a massive underground illegal organisation which recruits thousands of experienced drivers to run over players as soon as they spawn as a full time job and he plans to make every gta o online player smash the f out of their controllers and consoles because he has a deal with sony and microsoft which is to make the gta o players buy new consoles so that they can get richer.

I hope they totally revamp the Ai for next gen.. Cars deliberately try to hit you, cops automatically shoot you and ram your car, and theyre also overpowered and can shoot through the toughest material. I also hate the way the peds act. They look at you and do some creepy animation where they turn around slowly and speed walk away and then run. Sigh

I feel like the traffic mechanic is a step back from GTA IV.  I've never been to NY or LA, but it's said that both places have insane drivers.  Traffic in GTA V seems to just cut in front of you (I'm aware this happens in literally every place in the world, but do cars really take immediate sharp jagged turns to cut in front of you every 2 blocks?) , I've even seen npc drivers literally go onto the wrong side of the road when coming out the turning lane.

Cars do not use blinkers, as they did in GTA IV.  I've seen cars run red lights (Again, aware that cars run red lights IRL, but every other block? Come on man) They drive at night with no lights on, and they make left turns in the path of the player on a two way road. (Where they would be at fault IRL, as they should yield) There's no doubt, that the traffic in GTA V was designed to piss players off.  The traffic mechanic actually reminds me more GTA San Andreas and other 3D era games.

What i do find interesting, however, is how in GTA V the traffic will actually try avoid and accident, when you're trying to hit them.

However if you're chasing after someone that's being a dick, or trying to do a mission, or trying to escape cops, or anything other than just messing around, the traffic will do all in it's power to screw you over.

yea i notice this as well. if youre trying to hit them its very hard and you cannot, but if youre trying to avoid them they will f*cking hit you every time, lol
