Mapping Errors:

Current database is short, but I'll try to expand it in future since I myself working on globalmap project.
 

Error: 0x40E179 *
Type: Game freezes when looking at object **
Stack:
Problem: TXD (or any other resource (except DFF)?) is not presented inside IMG.
Fix: Add the TXD into IMG or remove related objects from IDE/IPL.
 
Error: 0x534134
Type: Crash at loading
Stack:
Problem: Improper COL (or missed)
Fix: Fix the collisions, check if COLs are presented inside IMG and IMG itself is loaded in gta.dat.
 
Error: 0x5B51F7
Type: Crash
Stack:
Problem: IPL-related. Some IDEs are missed.
Fix: Fix gta.dat
 
Error: 0x5BA12B
Type: Crash
Stack: 
Problem: Broken Ipl instances limit (1000) - maximum count of lines inside INST section in IPL file.
Fix: Need to increase Ipl instances limit (or try to split IPL into few IPLs).
 
Error: 0x5DC425
Type: Crash
Stack:
Problem: Incorrect collision material (improper material ID).
Fix: Fix collision materials inside COL.
 
Error: 0x6E9248
Type: Crash when looking at water
Stack:
Problem: Water-related bug (incorrect water.dat?) (at water rendering). Division by 0.
Fix: Fix the water.dat
 
Error: 0x6F5702
Type: Crash
Stack:
Problem: Too many objects? Some unknown limit.
Fix:
 
Error: 0x7ECABB
Type: Crash when TXD with texture is loading.
Stack: 0x4CDCDE > Error
Problem: Corrupted texture format (problem with lowres images). It can be caused by WTD2TXD tool.
Fix: Fix the TXD. Check if compressed low-res images are there.

It's very useful :^: I always wanted to know the IPL limit, thanks very much!

But is there any limit for DFF file size? I've used several DFFs with size of 5 mb or higher and I see them invisible ingame.

But is there any limit for DFF file size? I've used several DFFs with size of 5 mb or higher and I see them invisible ingame.

There's a limit with 65k vertices per geometry inside DFF. Static buildings normally have one geometry, animated objects and vehicles consist of few geometries.

This is a very good idea and helpful, I've been documenting different errors while working on Trilogy.

IPL & COL binary files need to be replaced, and the IMG file rebuilt.
Otherwise, the game crashed.
Only IMGTool program does this good.

Do not use deprecated tools.
Use IMG Console for building IMG archives.

Can someone tell me what crashes my game pretty please? It always happens when I get close to Las Venturas. Funny thing is I didn't change anything related to scripting or that part of map.

You're crashing inside some DLL/ASI.

So the CLEO.ASI in the log doesn't mean cleo script might be involved? I'll check the ASI plugins meanwhile.

Yeah only new one is the the ASI shipped with EHI.

Ah could it be the Great Grass mod? It has modified plants.dat. Maybe modloader is merging it incorrectly.

I don't understand this statement. IMGTool is perfectly useable (Run as Admin in Vista/7/8), and has a GUI to boot. Did something change in the img definition that MUST use this command line program instead?

 

Not trying to be jerky about it, genuinely curious.

hm, I think is DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

why?

 about the topic, thats very nice to create a big database with all common crashes! helps a lot, I have already suggested the addition of a database with this crashes to Mod Loader

one more:

Error: 0x6E3D9C
Type: Crash while in-game or some actions (anims).
Stack:
Problem: Anim group. *
Fix:
Check the anim groups, like vehicle.ide.

btw: I don't know if its only in vehicles or the problem includes anim groups of peds...
e.g. I had this crash when I changed the copbike's anim group from "bikes" to "biked" in vehicles.ide, then when the bike is collided of I get off, crash, I send it to LINK/2012 and he said about anim groups

edit: this crash looks more violent than it looks

with a lot of tests, I think this crash is the same crash of you get after put so much high poly cars

and I had this crash in creating of a vehicles pack, all is ok, then I've put a car of 4 MB and this crash appeared, NOTHING about vehicles.ide, I simply removed the car or removed others cars and return to work!

Check your LA limits.ini file.
Also, give me some more info about the error.
Was it a random crash or a crash on loadscreen.
There are some limits to the LA aswell. At around 30/40.000 X/Y the limits won't work anymore. Its just a size limit.
Simply because you cant have infinite limits (X/Y 30.000/40.000)
The limits wont function beyond this point, most of them don't.

It seems like a random crash caused by conflicting cleo scripts. Also, the Last file loaded: isnt always the cause of your crash. It's infact the last file loaded (Ambience audio is always loaded so that explains alot)

I'm using the LA aswell, and remember to pay attention to the EIP: <string>.
I haven't came accross ýour EIP value while working on Underground, so I can't help you.

Also, remember to post your own thread instead of bumping an old topic instead.

So, I suggest you to delete all CLEO scripts, because that could be the cause. If it's still not working, reinstall SA and add CLEO and the LA only.

Also, don't blame your crash on the LA unless you have a proper reason to do so. I'm using the plugin for my GTA:Underground mod, and it works just fine.

A backtrace/stackdump is the only way to find out your crash reason as it's calling invalid code, post the very end of modloader.log where the crash log is, as it's more detailed.
By the way, I'm working on a community driven crash reporter, hope that will help in the future... Actually not sure if it'll see the light of the day.

So yeah, I won't be able to finish it, but I have a lot of progress so dropping it away is a shame.
Instead, i'm giving away the source under MIT for whoever gets interested in finishing this stuff.

It's not really gta specific (and indeed the current state of the source is a .exe not a .asi) so even those without knowledge in gta modding but knowledge in C++ may be able to finish it up. Requires VS2013 or greater to compile. To generate the project files just run premake5 vs2013 or so.
Please don't do a half assed job job if you pick it up, I left it because I wouldn't be able to continue a good job in my free time :)
 
Sadly I didn't write any documentation about it in time but I'll try to explain as much as possible here:
 
Frontend Overview
 
So basically when redistributed it'd be something like:
crashou.asi

crashou/db/*.yaml
 
The crashou.ini would contain something like
EnableUpdate = true or false, enables updating the crashou/db/ database over time from the UpdateURL
UpdateURL = an url to a up to date version of the db/ files, this url should point to somewhere the community is able to contribute yaml reports, an example url would be https://github.com/thelink2012/crashou/db/gtasa so anyone could contrib to the gtasa database of crashes and over time increase the number in version.txt so the updater runs.
PastebinDevKey = an developer key for the pastebin api (http://pastebin.com/api)
PastebinUserKey = an pastebin user key to upload unknown-reason crash reports so RE people could contribute to the yaml file.

The UpdateURL is the url used to fetch the database. Notice how it points to a subdir of db/ in the cloud instead of db/ itself.
That would allow different ini for different games (ANY GAME), for example the vc redistribution of it would contain github.com/thelink2012/crashou/db/gtavc in the update url instead.
Yeah, this github url is just a example it doesn't exist ;) 

The PastebinDevKey exist actually and is from the crashou user in pastebin.
The PastebinUserKey too, yeah, the crash upload thing is basically done.
Here's that user http://pastebin.com/u/crashou, if you for some reason want the password for the account just PM me.
 
Finally the most important thing, the yaml files of crashes.
I tought on initially having something like this in the db/ directory
gtasa.yaml -- contains only version information, no crash information
gtasa.10us.yaml -- contains crash information for 1.0 US
 
gtasa.yaml would contain only version information, that is:

So when the game crashes for example on 0x40E179, a message box will display the crash log plus the reason and the fix for the crash.
 
The conditions expression allows you to run some expressions that evaluates to either 1 or 0, those expressions MUST NOT HAVE SIDE EFFECTS.
Well I won't explain in detail the expression thing because there's a grammar file on the source code that's pretty much self explanatory, a proper user-level documentation of the grammar can be done by someone after reading that.
 
So that's basically it.

Now I'll talk to anyone interested in picking up the project.
 
Dependencies:
deps/curl/ -- subtree (as in git subtree) to the libcurl used to upload and download stuff -- http://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/

src/dllmain.cpp -- test code (terribly written) -- contains the pastebin uploader and the crash message box -- currently doesn't run any of those but a expression console for testing, see the source and you'll notice what to do
src/context.cpp -- currently empty, it's content are currently in the hpp file for easiness of development
src/context.hpp -- every expression runs over a context to abstract away memory access and register access.
src/crashdb.hpp -- see below
src/crashdb.cpp --  reads the yaml files and builts the database of crashes to be used when the crash happens
src/exception.cpp -- borrowed from modloader to report the crash
src/expression.hpp -- see below
src/expression.cpp -- compiles and executes expressions
src/expression.hh -- generated from expression.leg
src/expression.leg -- grammar for the expression system, should be used to generate the expression parser (expression.hh)
src/numtype.cpp -- the type system for the expressions
src/io.hpp -- see below
src/io.cpp -- some io stuff, was planning to put the download/upload thing here too (currently in dllmain.cpp)
src/stdinc.hpp -- precompiled header
src/stdinc.cpp -- precompiled hader

The doc directory is empty and well it was planned for it to contain documentation for the expression system, for the yaml file and for the ini file.
The db directory is empty and was planned to contain databases for the games, example db/gtasa, db/gtavc, db/gta3, etc
 
Remember, just run premake5 vs2013 and you'll be ready to experiment and code on the generated project files.
 
What's left to implement?
  • The crashon.ini
  • Scanning crashon/db/ for all .yaml files (note don't scan subdirectories). Currently it only reads a test.yaml file from the working directory.
  • The version updater system
  • Functions for the grammar (see context.hpp and expression.leg, there's a list of planned functions and there's two implemented functions). Remember no side effects!!!!
  • Also find references to TODO in the source files.
  • Turn this into a asi when it's done since exe is easier for testing (is this even considered something left to implement?)

Yeah, I found a Mountain Bike spawned from the game:

with an error of handling.cfg and vehicles.ide! :D
I copied this from a SA version where the bicycle was a motorbike! XD

  • There's problem with ImVehFt mod by DK22Pac in my game, it's always crashing my game! Here's the log:
