Hey guys, Thought I'd post a thread showcasing my Wonderful little beater, I do have plans to make it a lot nicer.

It's an 86 Chevette Scooter, Whoever bought it optioned it out though, It is Mostly original, It has an engine from a 79(blue block, 1 barrel carb), For the past 5 years it was sitting, We brought it home gave it a kick in the ass and started up pretty good.

So far what I've done:

- Front Fenders and bumper

- Hood

- Front Upper Ball joints, Sway arm links and Shocks

- Replaced the horn, Donor car was a Mid 80's Oldsmobile. (Dual horns ftw)

What needs to be done:

TOP Priority:

- Brakes I have none, Every stop is a panic stop in this thing.

- Patch up the holes in the floors

Low priority:

- Clean and install the 2 barrel carb and intake

- Replace front bumper with a less pitted one

- Replace fenders with better ones(Current ones are full of Bondo)

- New rims and tires

- New doors

- Sand down the rest of the body

But yeah, As I do stuff to the Car, I'll post it all here

Videos!!

Pictures!!

Spoiler

Later on, I'll get more better/updated pictures and a video or 2.

Yes actually, I did, found a guy an hour or 2 out of town who has like 12 Chevettes, Stripped the Fenders, Hood, Bumper and Grill off one, Unfortunately, The rest of the car was toast.

I know right?

Interior is in very good condition, Mostly Fading, no stains whatsoever, although I haven't bothered taking the Driver seat cover off to see the condition it's in.

The bumper was retarded, Whoever did the bodywork on it, Used both Bondo and some really heavy/thick paint, It was hell getting it off.

Anyways, Video!!

I'll get one from the engine bay pov, maybe after the carb swap.

I was actually thinking about doing a V6 swap, Wouldn't have to cut anything out, probably just drill new mounting points.

But at the same time, I kinda just wanna keep the 4 cylinder, Because it'll be a lot better on gas than either a V6 or V8.

That's true, I'm pretty sure the mounting points on a 4 cylinder and v6 aren't much different so that wouldn't be much different. But it all depends on what you want I have a V6 in my s10 and my friend has a 4, well now he has a v8 but the gas mileage wasn't much different.

Maybe, But the annoying thing about the Chevette, Unlike most other GMs, It only had the option for either the 1.6 Gas I4, or the 1.8 Diesel I4, So, I don't think it even has mounting points for other types of GM engines unfortunately.

Anyways, Gonna go realign my Hood, and replace my Fenders, Will be back with pics.

EDIT: A bit too toasty outside to be exerting myself lol, Will try again when my car isn't in direct sunlight.

Have you decided what wheels yet? Chevy has made some great OEM wheels for their cars in the past like the Corvair and Vega wheels just to stick with Chevy.

Edit: Corvair has a 5 bolt pattern, aw shucks :(

The guy I bought the body panels and what not off, has a set of Chevette rims I think I'm gonna buy, I think he also has the Centers and trim ring to go with them, so that's an option.

Edit: Chevette shares the Bolt pattern with an older BMW from what I hear, So that'd be weird, Rocking 80's BMW rims on a GM. lol

Front Fender replacements!!

As you can see, There is no Fender here.

DhKum7Z.jpg

Unfortunately, Whoever owned this before me, spray bombed the whole fender, Covering both the Trim AND the Chevette Scooter decal.

:(

2J7rVRC.jpg

Nature being an asshole, Prevented us from getting the other side on fully, It's hanging on by like 3 bolts, We need to hammer out some dings and twists anyways, but this is what it'll look like with the new(old) panels on.

yS8HFQq.jpg

This is a Video of my Cassette deck, Which I formerly thought was defunct, After replacing a Fuse it worked quite well, Brought back memories..

Anyways, I found the tape in a Scrapyard in an Olds Cutlass, Everything else was country, it's unmarked and I was sure this would be too when I saw it.

Just installed the Master cylinder and tested the brakes, Everything is quite good, Just need new pads and rotors.

Also, On the look out for a 4.3L Vortec V6, I have plans to drop that in there. :D

I had a '94 S10 with the 4.3L Vortec (from an '03 S10).  Great motor, had no problems with it.

Was going through Pick'n'pull earlier today, Found 4, 4.3L V6's in mid-late 80's GM trucks, only one was a proper Vortec V6, They were also all automatics and EFI/Throttle body injection unfortunately, So I'll probably have to go with Aftermarket tranmissions and a carb(among other things).

Gonna give it some time though, maybe check back in a while and hope something a little more desirable shows up.

Mine was a proper Vortec, and it was hooked up to a 5-speed manual transmission. I moved from South Carolina to California and decided to keep it in South Carolina. My step-mom and brother liked to use it to take trash to the dump. Well, some stupid f*ck stole the truck, but didn't know how to drive a stick and put it in a ditch not far from the house. They toasted the transmission. Sometimes I miss the truck, but it really wasn't a very nice truck. I don't know if it had any matching body panels. They were all green, but differing shades of green. There were dents and scratches all over it. The (torn) bench seat was held forward by a partially-deflated basketball to keep it from rocking. Speakers didn't work. I had my step-mom scrap it, it wasn't really worth fixing.

My 2001 S-10 has a 4.3 Vortec and we have never had any problems with it, but it only has 48,000 miles on it. Instead of looking for just the engine you may have a better chance of finding a old S-10 or something that had that motor and plus it would come with the right transmission.

I don't have room for an entire car, Which is why I am looking for just the engine.

The apartment landlord may get a wee bit pissy if we started bringing in a bunch of cars. lol.

I'd throw a 3800/T5 combo from a 4th gen camaro in. Throw a M90 blower from a Regal GS/Grand Prix/Bonneville, etc on with a tune and a smaller pulley and have some fun. If you're afraid of wiring or fabbing anything, stay away from engine swaps in the first place.

Also, any aftermarket 4x100 would probably work. E30 stuff just happens to have the right centerbore and is probably the right offset for one. Certain VW stuff might work too though they'll have higher offsets. Aftermarket wheels will have a 73 mm centerbore so you'll need 57.1 to 73 mm hub rings to keep the vibration away.

Wiring won't be a problem, but as I lack proper machining equipment, fabbing things may become a problem.

I am really trying to not put and holes in the exterior panels, because I'm not really a big fan of aftermarket hood scoops on older cars, They just look goofy, so I'm hoping I can fit a Vortec in there without having to cutup my hood.

Did I tell you guys about my Horn yet?

Raided it from an early 80's Olds, Big horn, Small car, Fun times. :)
