I'm surprised to like this so much:

Haha, yeah I was avoiding clicking it during the week and then it came on in the place I was at last night. I must say it's pretty good. Loving the brass section, reminds me of Rick James or  MJ

Some nostalgic funky music.

Starts out in 7/8 then goes to 11/8 at the actual counting, then back to 7/8, and so it goes on. Interesting music. Also catchy as f*ck.

Great track. I´m not too familar with timing signatures... something I intend to change. I know Rock music and House music are generally 4/4 but that´s all really. Is that something you just picked up from listening to the track?

Great music and great video by the way.

Yeah, I was listening to it and thought it sounded different, cheeky if I may. Then I focused and thought logically, I.E. "how would this be written?" and making it all add up.

I dig that this was a kid's show with sophisticated music.

edit: since I'm posting anyway, check out this late disco hit by LGB:

Funk is on a tied first place on my preferred music.

I have to agree with the Bruno Mars song, the other day I was in a place with some cringe-worthy modern pop station on the radio and I stopped suddenly "Hold on...what the hell? This song is actually good!"

I hope more people adopt funky inspirations for their future tracks, the noisy synths are getting a bit tiring.

@epoxi: Lovely man.. having a Funkadelic morning actually! Listening to this right now...

@Marvin: sh*t, that's Benson? Sounds very Kool & The Gang I thought it was them.. Only other Benson I listened to was his cover of Abbey Road.

Some more funk I was surprised to find out was British (albeit a bit more modern-style compared to Funkadelic etc.):

^famously sampled in Michael Gray - I can't wait for the weekend

This has a video, but it distracts from the song so I'll post a generic clip-art version:

you have great taste in music, epoxi. Everything you post here is nice. Listening to the last posted material, I think that synthesizer could be an ARP Odyssey, an early synthesizer so sh*tty that Donald Fagen smashed one out of anger.

edit: it may have been a pro soloist, according to some sites: "During the recording of Steely Dan's Countdown to Ecstasy, Donald Fagen was so irritated with having to tune the Soloist so often, he threw it down the recording studio stairwell and jumped up and down on it. Shortly after, another musician joined in with some alcohol and they burned the ARP into a pile of melted plastic.[1]"

Thanks Marwin. To be honest, most of the classic funk I like I find out by researching hip hop samples. When I was younger I only really liked hip hop, I then expanded into R&B and I started to see the patterns in sounds and the samples shared by the genres. I think my tastes matured over the years and now I have an appreciation for the original funk songs and the artists who made them.

Generally music producers (even those pumping out generic garbage) have a great awareness and insight into the history and theory of music, whether by teaching or by intuition, and only sample songs they feel have a special element to them. Thus, the only songs and artists I know about are the ones I have been brainwashed to like by the past 30 years of urban music producers.

While I love music and obsess about the links and sounds, I myself have zero musical ability. I can't play any instruments, I can't read music and I am tone deaf (any time I have tried to replicate a song it has come out terrible). I know how to make a song in Fruity Loops but that's only because I know how to use software, actually making a decent tune is an impossibility for me lol.

As for the synth this guy claims to have the album which says it's a Moog. I couldn't comment though because my knowledge of instruments doesn't extend beyond the TR-808.

Larry Young plays one of the most original and never since replicated synth sounds of all time from what must be a Mini Moog or Cdx-0652 Portable Moog Organ according to the album notes. I'm going for the CDX as it sounds weirder, any takers?

Most '80s songs with technical names are a metaphor, however this song is actually about the remote control.

Man, epoxi. You are a fantastic contributor to the thread, as always. I love the sound of the above tune, it's too bad it's not on spotify; I'd put it in my "Funked up music" list.
