From an autosave before the jewel heist I spawned as Michael inside the front-door of his house.

When I walk out the front door I hear Jimmy say, "If I had my own car, I wouldn't have to steal my sister's."
He's walking toward Tracey's Issi so I follow. When he gets in the driver's seat, I got into the passenger seat.

He proceeded to drve me around Rockford Hills for an hour or so until I decide to shoot someone. At that point he started up the Vinewood hills.

Sadly we were behind someone slow as the cops caught up with us. I jumped out when the cops started shooting so I could switch places and drive. As soon as I exit, Jimmy takes off in the car bitching about me getting him in trouble.

Another time:
I take Lacey Jonas to the Altruists only to have them not open the gate. I drove around it into the compound with her and when I got out to steal the rpg she says something like "Fine. I'll drive myself and gets out of the car to get into the driver's seat. I enter the passenger seat and nothing. She won't drive anywhere.

Point is:
What ways are there to get other characters to drive my protag around? I would like to ride "shotgun" and do drive-bys without scaring off the driver. Ideally the driver would use defensive driving/fleeing AI.

Thanks

Used to love riding in the back of Bobcats in SA, shooting ppl as the driver flipped out.

Truck drivers in v seem to want to exit there vehicle to run or fight.

I never heard of this. It makes sense and would be simple to program. Since Jimmy is already going somewhere, just make Michael get in the passenger seat instead of jacking his ride or locking the doors. Pretty cool for them to handle it that way. I would assume it only works with the more major characters.

You can hop on a train or get in the tram (in single player mode)

you can glitch into the tram in online if you jump onto the front window, I managed to do it while I was standing on top of my car on the railway

I had the same thing with Jimmy. I was going to get in the Issi but he got in at the same time, so I rode shotgun. Unfortunately, Jimmy doesn't speed up when you have a wanted level.

i know jumping on the tram or train isn't what you're asking about.

you can jump on top of a bus and ride around on it though -- and as opposed to the tram or train, the bus driver will start driving agitatedly when you fire a weapon.
i've personally been able to ride an agitated bus around and evade 2-star wanted levels as a "passenger" and heard of others doing it too.

but that's not quite 'riding shotgun' as the OP is asking about, either. as far as that goes you could hop into any truckbed too.

**goes to play GTA for a while and think about this**

Well it looks like he was or is looking for bugs/glitches that make story related characters drive you around.... but he actually asks for NPCs drive you around and I think that my posts give such answers, so I'm not missing any point after all :)

Hi Bozzah. I aint picky bout wwho the driver is. I just want it to be the computer.

Thinking about it, there is no AI for fleeing/escaping. The AI is all about pursuit. The fleeing is all scripted.

Mebbe I just want to see what the driving AI is
doing when we are not in control.

...Don't you ever wonder about Mike cruising the Vinewood hills endlessly?

I remember the mod in SA that allowed you to recruit one of the families member to drive around, as you shoot out the passenger window.

Would love to see that back personally but the driving would have to be better than the already npc driving we have now.

This.

When you buy the Stretch or the Luxor, you should be able to hire driver/pilot to cruise you around.
