Once you complete CJ you should consider doing some of the other protagonists. I would love to play as an older Tommy instead of Michael or an older Claude instead of Trevor. Just a suggestion.


How old would Tommy be In GTA V? Surely in his late 60's or something. GTA OAP haha. Claude would be cool.

 

Alright, maybe not Tommy, but possibly Toni.

I'm 80% sure Rockstar had this guy from A Bronx Tale as reference whilst making Toni. He reminds me of him so much.

Wow man you've really nailed CJ’s likeness, every HD mod I've seen either makes the model technically 'HD', but either just upscales the original model or turn CJ into ‘generic black male #43’ But truly what I should be commending you for is your ability to balance capturing CJ’s essence, whilst approaching it within the context of the new HD universe. Definitely looking forward to see how this turns out.

I'm glad you can see what I really set out to do. That was my main objective and since my last image I've altered his face even more towards CJ's structure.
It pushes me to continue with comments like yours. Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts.

It's encouraging knowing you guys like my work. I've never seen anyone pull off CJ whilst making him in HD. Usually he ends up looking like a generic black man. I'm glad you can see CJ when you look at him.

Didn't Rockstar say that the III era characters couldn't be made for the HD era because they were too low poly, so they'd look nothing like themselves if they recreated them?

If you say he IS CJ then they were wrong.

Your models are great for a modder, there's no doubting that.
To answer your question, I have just finished University. I'm going to try build up my portfolio and apply to Rockstar. I have got some work for a new company as a freelance but I haven't started yet.

Don't really know, but if i had to guess its probably around 20k tris.

I'm sure once GTA V comes out you'll gain interest again. Franklyns head... I found it and opened it. I was suprised at how high poly it is.

UPDATE: 3,140 tris! We have a low poly with normal map guys. Don't mind the head silhouette as he will have hair.  Texture time next.

Niice. The detail is translated well onto the lowpoly.

So guys, I have a new friend. He's a senior character artist at Rockstar Games. He advised me to stop with the low poly and not mod games, but instead work on hyper realistic renders. I will take his advice, but why not have the best of both worlds? I'll still continue to mod for now :)


The best anyone's done for CJ. I'd say the chin's a tad pointy *I know CJ's was but I dunno, perhaps play with it a bit* and the ears seem really pointy because of where the edges are around the base/top, maybe muck around with those loops? or maybe I'm being too pedantic, iuno :p

If you look at the paintover, his chin looks fine. CJ's chin is like that but once he has facial hair, his chin looks good. I did think about changing his chin but I want to keep him as recognisable as possible.

 

I agree with the ears completely. I'm considering making him higher poly just because PC games can handle great graphics and it saves me the time trying to cover up all these little things. Plus he'll look better.
