Here's are two things that need to be looked into

1. When people start to quote a response that contains quotes. it starts leading to becoming a quote train. and that gets really spammy and taking up thread page space.

There should be an automatic spoiler adder like this or renamed to "Other quotes"

Spoiler

Hey does it work

Yes it does

2. Big images that get quoted should also be wrapped up in spoiler bbcode

I like this tiger.

Spoiler

I like it too!

If I'm quoting an image, I usually just replace the image with "snip". For example,

Look at this picture I took of Ben Stiller punching Nancy Reagan in the face over an old corn dog!

-snip-

but most people wouldn't do that. lol.

People are just too lazy to edit their quote trains, snip them, or put them in spoilers.

To be honest, if quote trains are that much of an issue, the forum software comes with a Stop Quotes Embedding setting.

As for quoted images... not much you can do there. More people should stop being lazy and edit accordingly.

If you see a quote-train arising then it is the best to report it. I often edit out the IMG tags in quotes and cut the quotes right whenever I see something of that sort in the V forum, because it annoys me too. However, don't go overboard with the reports. Just report one post and point out that there's more below or above. That's the best thing you can do.

Choo choo.

If people are too lazy, just edit the quote yourself when you quote them.

I always make sure it doesn't get too big. Snip out images. But I don't do spoilers.

Often quote trains and image quotes arise when members are debating using a mobile device. Editing the post so that only the previous comment is quoted is time consuming and fiddly on a phone, especially during a heated discussion.

As Andreas points out, walls of text and repeatedly quoted images are easily edited by staff but we do rely on people to report them.
