I would like to see 80's Vice City, but in the same universe as GTA V. A spinoff perhaps, like what Vice City and San Andreas were to III.

I don't think the 80's would work again for a GTA game, they already used all the best of the 80's for Vice City and Vice City Stories.

not sure if being sarcastic or just plain ignorance.

70's, 80's and 90's, these are golden times, man. Especially for GTA. Think about it. During 70's, we have up-growing hippie culture, Vietnam vets, increasing Asian immigrants, Disco etc. I think 70's San Fierro would make a good setting, like I mentioned with happily-go hippies who are obsessed with weed, Disco culture at its peak age, a large organization of Triads (as far as I know, with a good heroin stash), Vietnam vets and possibly their newly-founded hot action biker clubs.  Also maybe we'd have a chance to see the "high-top" punk culture, eh.

80's... there's a lot we can talk about it. Take Miami... hot wars between brutal drug cartels, spoiled celebrities, porn industry, Miami also being a good gun market. Yeah, take it that it's done but there's a lot more setting choices. For example, Rust Belt cities, I can say Detroit would be good choice for every time eras, but especially late 80's and whole 90's. Detroit was shaken during the infamous crack epidemic during mid 80's to mid 90's. Economic crisis was a bad influence on the whole study, which also led the temporary yet shocking falldown of the famous car industry of the city. Also we have Philadelphia... In early 80's, the city was shaken by the heroin epidemic and also there was a growing interest for methamphetamine. Also, during that period, the city was run by Scarfo Family, who're generally said to turn Philadelphia into a hell, with real means by any illegal activites you can imagine. Yeah, and also let's not forget the AIDS epidemic in Philadelphia during 80's. And plus, Glam metal at this golden age, AWESOME!

90's... I think this era's my favourite. First off, 90's means a huge drug culture, PCP to crack, LSD to meth, meth to cocaine, cocaine to marijuana...You already know 90's means a huge African-American gang culture, which is also touched on San Andreas (but it could be done better if you ask me). And, oh yeah, don't forget the notorious Latin street gangs such as MS-13. Let's also think about the political side. With the Soviets have fallen down, whole radio and TV broadcasted would be occupied by "evil communists ended, thanks God" and "God bless America" news. However, it may also be taken on the account that communism was actually a growing "trend" by that time, we'd see a real hard communist youngster giving speech against capitalism or something.

I'm not against a present-day GTA but I think, by HD Era, R* started to ignore and despise 70's, 80's, 90's penetrability, is now stuck with adorning their games with technological supporting devices, such as cellphones, Internet, Lifeinvader, Bleeter (the latter two is nothing but useless sh*ts). OK, do present-day GTAs all you want but don't despise these three golden ages. It'll give GTA the soul nothing else can ever do.

I'm not really. The fact of the matter is they can't connect with a world filled with parodys, jokes and satire from before there time, instead everything has to be phone, internet and little white kids from the suburbs pretending to be gangbangers. Hell I get tired of people born in 97-99 who, even if they're too young to remember the 90's, think they can connect with the vibe of the game because they're "90's kid reppin"

its just that these internet kids are so ignroant and arrogant.

I was born in 89, so i didnt exactly gorw up in the 80's, but Vice City is my favourite GTA and i love the 80's vibe.

I just watched 22 jump street last night (its not near as good as 21 jump street) and I just found it so funny they way they hailed the internet kids attitude towards older things.

I would like to see another GTA set in the 90's, but that won't happen, because it seems that every GTA in the HD era has to be set in present day.

I would like a near-future setting, maybe in the year 2025 so that Rockstar can take some creative liberty and

add some cool cars and weapons, and as well improve the skyline with some awesome skyscrapers(for basejumping+more of a real city feeling)

Also because i like the modern conveniences like internet on the protagonist's phone, color tv's ,faster cars etc...

Please, don't be so dumb. People voted Present day because that is the truth, not because they had in their imagine that ''THE NEXT GRA WILL BE f*ckING ULTIMATE SET IN THE 40's ABOUT THE ITALIAN MAFIAAAA''

I voted it simply because it will proabably take place in modern day time; because R* are on their 'The American Dream' GTA time. And IMO it would suit better

So what you're saying is that the American Dream theme doesn't fit anything other than the 21st century.

I do agree with you that Rockstar's decision on the time period will more than likely be in whatever year the game is released, but I think the intention of threads like this is to show Rockstar (if they even view these forums) that some players don't want to play in the 21st century every god damn game, especially since they've proved that the series works just as well in the past.

I revoked my vote on modern day because I've been doing some thinking and yeah, we should leave modern times for now. I want to see how Rockstar would incorporate a period piece into the HD Era. Especially with how they love to bring back old characters and their fancy-schmancy phones and all.

I'd actually be quite interested in seeing how Rockstar handles the phones if they ever go into the 1980s. Storing it isn't a problem seeing as you can fit a minigun in your back pocket now, but how will it work? In IV and V you worked with a screen that had different selections. Your average 1980s cell phone had only one selection - call. Maybe they can do a phonebook or journal for contacts and the like or something.

Tommy just shoved his phone into his armpit and it never bothered him.

The next couple games will most likely be set in present day due to GTA Online.

Rockstar is probably going to want to combine their maps into a GTA universe for online.  For that to work, they have to be set in the same time period.

“Well, one thing we've toyed with - and we've talked about this before, so it isn't a spoiler - is (the ambition) to grow this world until it's the world,” said Benzies. We're just going to add on new things to it, new places all the time.

Liberty City

Southern San Andreas

Vice City

Northern San Andreas (San Fierro & Las Venturas)

i'm not sure when but i do want it to be set in the past. Not too sure about a game set in the future. Rockstar make amazing games when they are set in the past (San Andreas/Vice City and RDR).

Well, all the numbered titles (except GTA 2 lol) were set in the year they were released, and spinoffs like VC and SA were set in the past. So I think this is what's going to happen further. I'm pretty much sure the next one is going to be a spinoff, therefore set in the past.

I agree, but I'm a bit sick of the HD universe charachters, really 3D cannon was better. I hope that, when they place a game in the past, they will be no connection to the current protagonists.

Conscerning all this generation blabla, I was born in 1964, so I got to see all of 'em.
