A military plane crashed into homes in an Imperial Valley neighborhood about two hours southeast of San Diego County Wednesday afternoon, officials confirmed.

The pilot safely ejected from the plane before it crashed, officials said, and no civilians on the ground were injured. Three homes were destroyed in the crash.

USMC operate a large number of Harrier II Plus which are basically the same as the now-retired British FA-2 airframes but minus air intercept radar, fitted with US avionics and a GAU-12 gun.

All the original Hawker Siddley based harriers in the US have been retired.

Completely destroys 3 houses and no one was injured? Good news and very lucky.

I remember a year or so ago a Helicopter Crash in Vauxhall, London killed the people on board as well as a few people on the ground. The series of events which had to happen for those on the ground to wind up dead is astonishing to think about and so unfortunate. I'm glad it wasn't a similar situation this time.

Any news on why the plane went down?

None whatsoever, it was most likely a technical malfunction.

Glad nobody was injured.

Maybe he was trying to land it on the street. Most likely at night in Imperial, it was the only well lit area.

Thank f*ck the plane wasn't armed, if you did as much amphetamines as these guys did you'd be lucky not to shoot everything that moves.

A couple hours ago crashed an Eurofighter in Spain. The pilot, who was married and had a son, has died.

Eurofighter accident at Spain's Moron base near Seville

A Eurofighter jet has been involved in an accident on the runway of military base in southern Spain, defence officials have told the BBC.

Authorities have not yet said if there were any casualties, but only one pilot was believed to have been in the plane.

Local media say the aircraft smashed in to the ground while landing at the Moron air base near Seville.

The base is shared by Spain and the US Air Force, but of the two, only Spain operates the Eurofighter jet.

"A Eurofighter has crashed on landing on the runway of the Moron base", a Spanish defence ministry spokeswoman told the AFP news agency.

The accident took place shortly after 14:00 local time (12:00 GMT) on Monday.
