HD > 3D. I prefer the realism (or in the case of V lose realism) within the gameplay.

Plus the characters are a hell of a lot better too. Niko, Roman, Johnny, Billy, Tony, Brucie, Jacob, Michael, Dave > Claude, Asuka, Tommy, Lace, The Truth, etc

They both have their strengths.

I prefer the 3D era. The games in the 3D era were a lot more fun. Not more fun to play (IV was probably the most fun to play imo), but fun to watch unfold. All the over-the-top villains, neat pop culture references, and interconnected storylines were great and really fun to explore and experience. I guess the HD era could eventually become better at doing that, but it isn't right now, at least not for me.

Plus the characters are a hell of a lot better too. Niko, Roman, Johnny, Billy, Tony, Brucie, Jacob, Michael, Dave > Claude, Asuka, Tommy, Lace, The Truth, etc

Except Mike Toreno > any fictional or non-fictional person or thing that ever has or ever will exist ever.

They both have their positives. The 3D Universe probably wins in activity variety, but it feels dated imo. The HD Universe has alot more detail and better characters, while still retaining a traditional GTA feel. That said though, Chinatown Wars feels more like a 3D Universe game even though it was set in the HD Universe. It lacked realism and featured alot of weapons and vehicles that were absent in GTA IV.

Both have their own merits: HD era is more lifelike, wheras 3D era is more like an action comedy. HD era does what 3D era couldn't, but doesn't do some stuff that 3D era did. I'm undecided.

3D >>> HD in almost everything

Also don't forget, 3D era is what made GTA special.

Hard to compare them in terms graphics, gameplay, limitations etc as they are massivley different due to the console differences etc. Overall though I would say that I do prefer the 3D era more than the HD era, but the HD era isnt that far behind.

Technically there's no disscussion, however comparing this aspect would have no point.

I'd go for the 3D era, because you have to consider what these game have archieved, especially GTA III and San Andreas. GTA III was a perfect transition from 2D to 3D, introducing the first actual GTA type gameplay, Vice City was a cultural tribute and one of the few games which could really create a striking atmosphere, a game you won't forget, San Andreas archieved technical breakthrough relativising to it's time, at the time when it came out, I was just, woah ..

I could swift my shoe in the *ss of all those impubs who judge those games only by their graphics, ignorant and self sufficiant.

The storyline were all excellent, especially the PSP games.

Back then gaming was a bit different, now it goes more in the directon of movies with quicktime events everywhere .. --> OMG so gud grafix ..  :panic:

2D is best.

Best characters, best story, best gameplay, best graphics.

3D is equal in quality to HD for me.

Edit: Nope, 3D era is superior!

The best thing about the 3D era games is how their storylines form a single long story. You know, from that guy who kicked Vic out from the army to Catalina's death.

But character, story and location design is obviously better in HD (that's an objective fact, because Rockstar North had improved their experience, and technology itself was improved).

After replaying through vice city after GTA5 I've got to say that the 3d era takes it. I'm not really sure why. The missions in VC have become side missions in 5
(VC movie studio dildo dodo = 5 promote the cinema)
(VC pole position club "mission = 5 getting a stripper to have sex with you)
(There's probably more but those will do off the top of my head.)

But the game is just much more fun, I'm much more drawn in and involved in the story and the gameplay (once I readjusted to the controls, days of pressing L2 to brake and just looking left as I crashed into something :D ) is superior IMO.

Oh and the rewards for ambulance, taxi, vigilante, pizza boy, fire etc etc etc.

And the humour was better. 4 and 5 both have their funny moments (4 not so much except brucie) but they don't compare to the 3d era.
