Everything is still unfolding. The guy has been going around the city for at least four hours now shooting it up. The entire city is on lockdown. Three police officers dead, one police dog dead, multiple police officers wounded.

Crazy. Keeping my eye on this. Not sure how he could have gotten away though. If he had a long enough gunfight with police in order to kill 3 cops they must have had him pinned down.

Pretty scary, will be eyeing this as well, hope those that were injured make it through, and my condolences to those that didn't make it.

This guy seems more prepped than the average Joe.

No doubt GTA will be to blame somewhere..I can almost see Jack Thompson trying to use this to get his seat back.

Good ole JT hasn't been relevant for years. There have been several shootings much larger than this one in recent years and he hasn't showed up blaming GTA. So I doubt he will show up here.

I just wanna say when I first read "Mass Shooting" in the title I immediately assumed it took place here in America. Nope, I was wrong.

Crazy how I'm conditioned to have that sentiment.

Literally had to read the title 3 times to make sure I was seeing it right. Canada? That's one of the last places i'd expect something like this to happen. Wonder what the back story behind this one is. (really sad that it's come to the point where I just nonchalantly classify it as another "one")

With that said, I hope they catch this f*cker before he does anymore harm.

Right now, this stands as the second worse one-day loss of life in the 100 year history of the RCMP. Only tragedy to surpass this one was in 2004 when four officers where shot and killed in one day in Alberta.

Also hearing rumors that there are several civilian deaths throughout the area.

Holy f*ck, that guy looked like me for a second, right down to the jacket.

But on a serious note, did he have a motive or is that unknown as of yet? I literally just found out about it and did a google search of his name. I came across this article here, five facts you have to know about Justin Bourque. One thing that's making me curious is how all these pictures are being taken of him, despite him being armed to the teeth. Is he simply not noticing the photographers or is he letting them snap away for attention?

Yeah, I am watching this on CP24.

It's pretty unnerving. Waiting to hear more as it comes in.

My condolences to all the officers who lost their lives and the police dog. Hope it doesn't get worse and they catch this guy soon.

You can't see it but you can hear one of the officers being shot in the video.

It's a terrible shame how shootings like this are becoming pretty common, except the fact that most of these shootings take place in the US. To hear something like this going down in Canada is a little more unheard of. They need to catch this maniac soon, my condolences go out to all the victims, human or not.

The sad part is that this guy is gonna be glorified by the same type of idiots who glorified the guy who went around killing people in California.

The last mass shooting wasn't too long ago before this, was it? Some dude in California killed his roommates, correct?

My guess is that they have SWAT around every corner now and on border patrol to make sure he doesn't escape the city. The terrifying thing is that he could be in house holding people hostage as we speak, or he could have ended it already.

Sort of looks like a cross between Seth Green and Shaggy. Hopefully they'll catch him and no one else will get hurt/killed.

You can't kill 3 police officers if you don't have a military training.

No they're just being covered more. Mass shootings have actually been dropping rapidly over the past 2 decades. Something like 50-75% drop in gun murders since the 90's. And for the death rates by guns trhe majority of them are suicides.

I don't know, but maybe he just doesn't have a problem with the journalists. Maybe he just wants to kill a bunch of cops and anyone else who gets in his way. I'm guessing the journos are keeping a safe distance, taking those shots with a zoom lens.

It's not really fair to say that mass shootings have been "dropping rapidly" because I'm fairly sure they haven't. There's actually been a slight average yearly increase in the number of both deaths and injuries attributed to mass shootings in the period 2002-2012, over 1992-2002. Of course it's very fluid from year to year- some years (like 2012) almost 100 dead, some (2002) none. And of course the graph doesn't represent the actual numbers of mass shootings, but the fatalities and injuries arising from them.

fatalities3x495.gif

But yeah, when looked at from a fatality and injury perspective, "less mass shootings" = false.

http://www.motherjon...jones-full-data

-Edit

Actually, looking at their full data set, there are 35 mass shootings recorded between 2003 and 2013, and 18 between 1992 and 2002. So almost double the number in the last 10 years compared to the preceding ten. And there was only 12 in the 10 years preceding that; so it's increased decaded on decade. Therefore, "less mass shootings" is false on both counts.

BBC seem to be doing a running commentary on it. Can't pay much attention as I'm getting ready to leave for work. Sure I'll have more to say later.
