the first build was I think mid 2009 in the leaked build logs, so 4 years just about covers it.

no.

after playing red dead and max payne 3 i expected more out of the game play.

it was pretty. i liked the detail but the story was iffy in my opinion and i think for

me it was because  it didn't feel to me that there was a clear antagonist.

the map was under utilized paleto bay was used once in the story they really needed

to use more of the map.maybe use two protags instead of three?

It was worth the wait for me, although in the 7 years I am glad I had RDR and MP3 to keep me occupied, otherwise I might have had a different answer.

GTA V felt like it has improved on all aspects of GTA IV, I know some people might not agree but for me they story was just a bit better, the locations were better (if a bit under utilised) and the choice of three protagonists was a really good decision, although I wish they made Franklin more interesting.

I could go on and write a big in depth explanation on why it was worth the wait to me but its late and I'm tired :beerhat:

I do.  I just wish the map was better.  There is like no ghettos in LS?  Crazy.  And the countryside doesn't really feel like countryside.

It was well worth it IMO. With over 700 hours of gameplay in it, I feel like i've gotten my moneys worth.

This game was worth it IMO

I have all if the 3d GTA games for PS2. GTAIV didnt feel like the other GTA games IMO but GTAV was enough for me to actually buy a PS3 at a time when we all knew that the next gen consoles were coming. My only complaints are mostly cosmetic but in terms of the game and how.it looks and.feels, it was well worth it!

I'm very split about this...

Well first... The hype and ride was fun. From the moment of first playing the trailer to the release.

GTAV may seem it wasn't worth the wait, but going through the surprises and announcements for GTAV were extremely fun. I miss having the days of coming home and seeing new screens or a announcement for info. That was fun.

We still have the fun excitement of SP DLC to come. But that will at least be at or after next gen version of GTAV comes out.

Overall, that game was pretty damn good at times and had some bad things also. But for instance, go to Watch dogs. It isn't as fun as GTA.

GTAV is still one of the best games to play currently, IMO.

Was it worth the wait? Yes, otherwise if it came out in Spring 2013 then it would have been loaded with glitches.

The ride was fun, but sometimes it doesn't live up to its expectations, I'd say GTAV lived up to 60% of my hype.

Of course not. Worth the money?...yes every damned dime.  Worth the hype and following?....maybe from an investment perspective.  But I just don't see what in V took 5 years to make.  Not blaming R* developers either.  It seems like there are some upper-level management issues with not having a more developer-friendly software, being distracted with other titles, and giving into the micro-transaction culture whether the DLCs be free or not.  Maybe Take Two was obstructing the creative process while trying to chase the exploding online gaming market.  I just can't say much as an outsider looking into the organization.

All I do know is that GTAV doesn't scream 5 years of development.  The SP was a disappointment in terms of both content and creativity.  The characters and the dialogue seemed shallow and watered down with lazier-than-usual cliches for the younger fans. The only reason this game is so great is the lack of competition with a similar eye for detail and realism.  Great game, but they can do better.

What a very well written and thought out post, and I totally agree.

Quite frankly my answer is NO. I was realistically hyped about V before release. I didn't feel the total game package was worth the wait. I was anticipating the story being about making money through heists, what I didn't expect was for you to be the governments lap dogs. Another factor which left a sour taste was the deeply flawed police/wanted system, I couldn't partake in one of my favourite free roam activities which is to just walk around and stop for a few minutes admiring the view without one of my most despised statements in the game "That's it I'm calling the cops!".

Cheers.

Grand Theft Auto V was worth the wait as i didnt even know it was coming out until the first trailer. however, all the extra waiting that came along with it such as waiting for online to come out, extra cars missions and garages. Heists still isnt even out and we have been promised them since october. i think rockstar needs to pull their thumb out of their asses and do something about it.
dont get me wrong i loved gta v until after christmas when they were dragging out what everyone was waiting for. i now have not played it since early april when we were promised heists. all gta's have their own magic to them and you cant compare the others because they are usually all different and all look better than any other game at the time. but my patience has run out with rockstar so ultimately NO it was not worth the wait because now after six years we are still waiting

Yes and no.  I think it's a good game and I enjoy playing it, but I was expecting something better and a lot of little things left me disappointed.  It could have been so much better without adding extra work.  They just needed to do some things differently.  I'll list some of the things I would have changed...

- The map could have been designed better.  There's very little reason to travel to the top of the map.  There's no proper destination for aircraft and you don't get that feeling of traveling to new areas like in San Andreas.  Plus, there weren't any surprises - they revealed too much pre-release.  The entire map was pretty much known over 4 months before they released the game.  I posted this map I made a few days ago which I think is a better layout - http://i.imgur.com/9fcHb2Y.jpg

- The story was weak.  Even though they said it's about the pursuit of the almighty dollar, it didn't feel that way.  There was too much government stuff and you feel like you're getting used and screwed-over for much of the game.  I don't want to feel like someone's bitch.

- The characters should have been better.  Franklin ends up being boring.  Michael's a weasel who betrayed his crew.  They went overboard with Trevor.  Madrazo is the weakest crime boss ever.  The Trevor/Patricia thing was goofy.  The antagonists were forgettable.

- They removed useful features from previous games. (ability to leave car engines running, crouching, NPCs shot in the leg will limp)

- The aiming reticle is hard to see when shooting from a vehicle.

- The turbulence when flying is annoying.  It should stop when flying skill is maxed out.

- 1 star becomes 2 stars too quickly and getting killed by a cop with a shotgun for basically doing nothing.  Helicopters spawn way too frequently.

- The car damage is disappointing.  It was much better in IV.

- A lot of side missions are a chore - the underwater collectibles, running 5 miles in the desert, that last triathlon.  Games are supposed to be fun.

- The rewards for collectibles and 100% are poor and not really worth it.

- Flying out of the windshield and dying is aggravating.  At least give us the option to use seat belts.

- Convenience stores aren't marked on the map.  Why not?

- Few interiors for a map this size.

- Wanted levels for crimes nobody witnessed.

- Cops catching up to supercars and ramming them from behind.

Despite all of the things I dislike, I still like the game.  It just wasn't as great as I was expecting.  I'm hoping the DLC adds a lot.  Here's another list of things I want included in the DLC... :)

- the casino opens

- the race track gets used for something

- missions involving the prison and military base

- demolition derby and motorcycle stunt track in the arena

- underwater treasure maps

- vigilante

- more random events that keep happening after you finish the story

- open more interiors such as the mall and nightclubs

- more safehouses and garages to buy
