Yep, the sequel to Forza Horizon has recently been announced. Here's the IGN article.

forzahorizon2-announce_20140602_med.jpg

BY RYAN MCCAFFREYIt’s time to crank up the stereo and hit the open road once again, as Microsoft has announced Forza Horizon 2, the next installment in their flagship racing series. Forza Horizon 2 is in development for Xbox One and Xbox 360 and due for release this fall.

The racer follows 2012’s critically acclaimed franchise spinoff Forza Horizon for Xbox 360 and 2013’s frontline Xbox One launch game Forza Motorsport 5. Development is being handled primarily by Horizon 1 studio Playground Games, though the team is collaborating closely with the Motorsport team at Turn 10 Studios; the two teams share a technology pipeline as well as select key personnel.

Hello, Lambo.

“[Turn 10 and Playground] share this belief that we can create a true home for racing fans on Xbox One,” said Horizon 2 creative director Ralph Fulton.

In making the leap to Xbox One, Forza Horizon 2 will include hundreds of cars, according to Playground Games, headlined by the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán. A long-awaited weather system will also make its Forza debut, while Forza 5’s Drivatar system is also being adapted for Horizon 2.

Contrary to recent rumors, it won’t take place in the bayous of Louisiana...

As for the game’s setting? Contrary to recent rumors, it won’t take place in the bayous of Louisiana. Instead, the game will take place in gorgeous Southern Europe, leading to, in Fulton’s words, “incredible diversity” and “amazing vistas.” Music will again play a big part in the game, and a music festival will be the central event around which the game’s activities revolve.

Extensive improvements and features are in store for Horizon 2, which IGN will showcase throughout June as part of our brand-new IGN First initiative. We traveled to Playground Games in the UK and brought back a (metric!) ton of content that we’re excited to share with you all month long, including tomorrow’s full preview of our hands-on time with the game.

That sound you hear in the distance is the sound check for another music festival and the revving up of supercar engines…

Excited! Liking the fact that its coming to 360 as well.

So supposedly this game will be set in the South-of-France. I watched a couple of EVO and Shmee150 videos that were set in that area and I can tell you this, those roads are utterly orgasmic! The fine surfaces, the curves and switchbacks, and the vistas... oh and the flora! Man this will be awesome. I'm hoping for a coastline drive to be included as well.

The weather system sounds cool but to be honest, it would've fit the Colorado setting more than it would a Mediterranean setting. But oh well, I still can't wait to see how good their rain effects and cloud formations will be. Hopefully E3 will show it off and hopefully it won't be a disappointment.

I just cannot wait! The thought of enjoying a relaxed drive in an RS5 on a fine European road just thrills me. And I'll be making my own custom soundtrack just for this game if possible.

The first Horizon was quite the surprise. I was looking for a good racing game, and was able to find Horizon for only $15 on Amazon. I hadn't played any of the other Forza games, but I thought I'd give this one a try. If it sucked I wouldn't have much invested in it anyway. I received the game about a week later, and when I started playing it, I was blown away. I didn't expect it to be that good, but I ended up putting 60-70 hours in the game. Everything about Horizon was great. In fact I'd go as far as saying it's the best racing game I've ever played. I'm very excited about Horizon 2, and if it's anywhere near as good as the first one, I'll easily drop $60 on this one.

@Gunwrath I heart you too.  :inlove:

So Turn10 must be out of ideas again. Oh well, I'm looking forwards to the Huracan.

f*ck YES. Any idea where specifically or is it one of those "generic riviera types" that look more like Italy than France.

Sounds beaut. South of France and Northern Italy is the more specific setting, so bring it on.

Oh man! I wonder how big the map will be, and what will be included. If they researched the area intensely, like they did with the first game, this could be bonkers!

I just read all of that and now I want to get an Xbox One just for this game. I don't even care about Driveclub anymore! :O

Car meets! More barn finds! Anyways, these some of the cars I hope for (some new and some that just need to return):

- Bentley Continetal GTC Speed
- Ferrari 458 Spider
- BMW M6 Cabriolet or Gran Coupe
- Audi RS7
- BMW M4
- Audi RS5
- Audi S3 Hatch
- BMW M135i Hatch
- Aston Martin V12 Vantage S
- Aston Martin Vanquish Volsnte
- RUF RGT-8 (991 based if Porsche doesn't return)
- Range Rover Sport '14
- Mercedes S65 AMG '14
- Jaguar F-Type V8S Roadster
- Jaguar F-Type R Coupe
- Audi R8 LMX

It's nice that they are making new game for both Xboxes , but I am not the fan of the developer for the older console as it may end up quite messy. But we'll see what the future holds for us and please bring more old timers this time. Not everybody loves new Super cars and looking at the current car list there's like 7 of them already.

Hopefully they learned some things when Forza 5 launched and have scaled back on trying to push token purchases.

I really liked Horizon despite the steps it took in pushing DLC/tokens and the annoying voiceovers. Forza 5 was awful in terms of game design because of T10's attempt at really monetizing the series.

And I am going to be seriously unhappy if they continue to try to re-releasing preexisting cars as DLC.

Well barn finds are supposed to return. And I agree with you, there needs to be more classic American cars, more 80's and 90's coupes and sedans, and a few cars made simply for cruising. I mean not everybody wants to speed around the map 24/7, some of us like to go on tranquil journeys, savoring all of the details and just enjoying the car. This is why I hope the Continental GT Speed, the car they just added to Forza 5, returns because that car would be perfect for grand touring around the South of France.

Anyway here are a few roads and some scenery to anticipate:

I wasn't a huge Horizon fan but I did enjoy some of the off-road races and what not. I hope those return as well and some rally cars. Atleast the music was better than other Forza titles. Forza 5's music haunts me.. I literally have to play my own music off the laptop while racing it's so f*cking dull.

But I have to agree with Tycek, I'd like to see more classics and older model cars in the fold. Sure, lambo's and all are cool but you can't beat driving around in a timeless classic. We'll see what happens. I don't think this will be a game I pre-order or grab as soon as it's released but it's definitely one I'll pick up at some point.

I'm sure there will be plenty vehicular diversity, I don't think Horizon 1's diversity was that bad. I would love for there to be more SUV's and a few more estates though.

There's always a problem when it comes to basic a map on a real life place in that, to actually make a map, they're going to have to change stuff to fit. The only game I've played where I was able to actually visit later on in life was Driver 3 and the city of Nice (which is in southern France, fairly close to the Italian border). Basically, Nice in Driver and Nice in IRL were totally different.

There's also the issues of what to include and what to exclude. Do we visit Monaco? The Alps? Cannes? Nice? Turin? Genoa?

I'd say it's too dramatic. The music would be fine if it was suited to Halo or another game where such theatrics are good. But it's a racing game, so bring back the music from Forza 2.

I don't think it'll bother me to much. I'll just treat it in the same way that I treat GTA maps. I do want Monaco! And I heard that the foothills of the Alps will be included so there will be some stunning views of those, I'm sure.

Well, I'm still a little skeptical until I see the finished product. I wasn't exactly that big of a fan of the original Horizon. I did enjoy the "build your own" rally car DLC which I thought Turn 10 should turn into a separate game, either as part of the Forza franchise or as a stand alone game.

I thought the first Horizon had a decent map with roads that are still fun today, but it could've been better. When I heard about I-70, I thought that this would be included:

640px-Glenwood_Canyon_highway.jpg

I mean who does Colorado and I-70 without including that? I mean even NFS: Hot Pursuit (2010) had that yet it was based off of Southern California! I'm hoping that A8 and A10 will be included along the France-Italy border because it is beautiful:

pOOhfsZ.png

But it might end up like I-70 in the first game. :/

Let there be icy mountain roads.

Let there be a nudist beach with young women playing beach volley.

Let there be hitchhikers for you to drive over.

So, now that I've listened to the video, I've got some issues. Firstly, it doesn't seem like a giant leap from the other game in terms of "plot" (which being racing orientated isn't really a thing but at least other games had one) and just seems to be the same sort of idea thrown together because Turn 10 and whoever else is developing it haven't got any themselves. This simply screams "hey chaps, look what we can do with existing game development". It's a technological showcase if there was one.

Secondly, they're bringing in a "tweaked" Forza 5 drivatar system. Considering that the current system doesn't work very well (the understatement of the year), I seriously doubt that whatever they're doing to it would make it any better.

I wasn't too thrilled about Forza 5's Drivatar system either but I'm going to wait until next week (when we get some gameplay) before I judge it in this game. As far as the story goes, I don't recall ever experiencing a well written story in any racing game nor have I really cared. I've always loved to race in Forza, however, because the physics are pretty damn enjoyable so that is kind of enough for me. Additionally, when I finally get myself a yellow F12Berlinetta, I'm going to be ignoring everyone and everything for a while. I'll probably sit back and cruise all around the map multiple times with my Ferrari in manual mode with my own tracks playing in the background.

Edit: I just realized that since rain will be in this game, there must be retractable roofs for the convertibles. Or at least I hope so. I hope it's nothing like the original Horizon where some cars permanently had their roofs down. What annoyed me more was how the Ferrari California permanently had it's roof up... how rubbish. I hope they replace it with the much-better-looking California T anyway.

Good interview with someone working on Horizon 2. And for the people that know about resolutions/framerates(and the people that think they know) the game is confirmed to be 1080p and a locked 30FPS(with no dips)

My God, just read the hypocritical Xbot comments. And the article before was full of idiotic fanboys bashing Driveclub for being 30 fps and look now. They can't seem to accept the truth. Ain't nothing wrong with 30 fps as long as it's locked. This game looks pretty good.

Decent article but the only thing that really stuck out to me from it were the barn finds. I'm pretty stoked for those now, I hope there will be some cool Italian classics like the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Nart Spyder.
