Does anyone else think it would be cool to have a GTA set in the 1950s? I dont know it just seems like a cool time especially for a GTA game.

Definently, but seeing as how R* are doing their new theme to GTA Games 'the american dream' set in modern settings, we wont see a GTA set in in the 1950s, or even after that

I basically view the Mafia series as the early 20th century GTA. To me the latest I could see GTA going back would be late 70s or early 80s again.

1950? ..Logically, it's impossible to happen with respect to the time of the beginning of HD era.

Don't mind, but such wishes are pointless, and are never going to happen.

I was going to say GTA London 1969 (1999) but that was when the Franchise was still in 2D,but yeah an HD 1950-60s GTA game will be Cool just like Mafia.

What do you mean, the beggining of the HD era?

IMO, a GTA set in the 1960 and earlier wouldn't feel like a GTA.

You think that just because it's in a pre-HD time period that Rockstar's first thought wouldn't be to put it in HD? LOL!

Anyway I think a GTA pre-1970 couldn't work. These time periods just didn't have the level of culture that Rockstar could use to satire. But why they haven't made a 70's based game yet I've got no clue.

They should also make it in black & white for extra authenticity aswell as putting the soundtrack on a vinyl record.

Close Call but i  Agree its An Absolute Gem.

OT

I Feel there Are Enough games in this era like gta Already if they did go back in time for me the  70s would be the Most Logical Step seeing as the only game i can think of like gta that has Been set in that Time Period was Driver P Lines which was the Definition of Mediocre and it was for only Half the Game.

Mafia II and LA Noire may both have similar graphics, mechanics and some gameplay, but can hardly be called a proper gta set in the late 40s/50s.

I think a 50s style would work well. Maybe you haven't seen "The Wild One" with Marlon Brando. Add guns to that story and it migt give TLAD a run for its money.

There's a bunch of material to use in an ol' timey gta.

I don't mind trying different time periods. Vice City really nailed the 80s. I'm sure Rockstar could do another era just as well.

Mafia II is probably the closest thing to a 1940s/50s GTA, even though it's much more linear and lacks a free-roam after completion.

Aesthetically, yes. But, aside from a good script, I'd only be interested if they added a femme fatale parody character as one of the playables. Even if that means having only 1/4 of the characters be a woman, that would still be pretty cool.

And imagine the gangsters? It would be perfect, but I'm not sure how well that would do.

50's would be cool. I'd prefer another 90's setting to be honest but I could do a 50's detroit. Come to think of it I can really see a 50's detroit.

Mafia II focused so much on story and bringing across how god damn boring a real 1950's gangster's life actually is that it forgot to be fun.

And vito had all the personality of a plank of wood. "I'll do any crime for money"? Chee, I've never heard that one before. Except almost every GTA game. The difference there being the protagonists had personalities. Vito is as interesting as cardboard and the game is about as fun as watching paint dry.

1950s? It'd be like a godfather game and more likely a Black and White environment. :p

Liberty city again? Oh my god. We've been there for, what, 3 games now? Maybe more? You had GTA III, GTA Liberty City Stories, and GTA IV, which also had two DLC episodes. I mean, for f*ck's sake? Will you guys just not be satisfied anymore unless every game is set there?

I also left out the first 2 gta games and Chinatown wars. Vice City has 2 games. San Andreas has 2 games. I really do want one more vice city game. Just anywhere but liberty city AGAIN.
