Do you think a movie of GTA series is a good idea?

normally that's true, but GTA is very much in the same genre as gone in 60 seconds, and the fast and the furious movies, so actually it would probably adapt pretty good.

If Rockstar was allowed to write the story it would be pretty good.

GTA 3, Vice CIty, San Andreas, GTA IV and it's episodes and GTA V would be pretty good adaptations.

Only if R* can overlook the movie.
I voted for GTA IV: The Lost & Damned. A motorcycle gang with problems with its own leader? That would be epic!
I was tempted with GTA V but the multiple characters would be confusing unless done right.
GTA IV was my second choice but I'm sure people would be tired of Niko complaining about money all the time.

I could also see GTA:SA as a movie. The L.A Riots with cop corruption? Yes! But the movie should just be the first part of the game, skip the 2nd island and then the finale could be that casino heist. It really depends what part of a GTA game you're going to make a movie about. GTA games are so diverse in missions that you gotta pick the most memorable. GTA 5 would be the Paleto Bay score (with the big suits and machine guns). You gotta pick the good parts of a GTA game. Oh, and a director that played the games and puts references to other GTA characters in the background. :)

If it was directed, written and acted well, I'd like to see TLAD, IV or San Andreas get a movie adaptation. Vice City could be cool, but I feel that movies in that setting, tone and style have already been done to death.

I'd like to see a movie, based on Franklin's life.

A simple prolog and all that:

  • How he grew up Lamar in the hood.
  • Details about his parents and aunt
  • His relations with Ballas and The Families
  • How his teenage years were.
  • How he got into business with Simeon.
  • How he meet Michael, get the scores and all that (main timeline).
  • Rest of the movie will show the fans how he got into college, how he might have gotten a family and maybe some trouble from the past, making the gears 'run' again.

Since the GTA games are only about half-competently derived from various action / crime / car movies, mashed together with trite, forced scriptwriting by the Housers and Lazlow, it would seem it could only go downhill from there, if someone tried to use GTA games as a basis for a new movie or movie franchise.

On the other hand, movies made from comic books that used to cost 10 cents now rake in $200M, so who's to say that basing movies on a half-assed game story would not be an amazing success?  Except for Max Payne.

If you have seen the 1983 Al Pacino version of Scarface, you've basiclly know the Vice City story before you play it.
OT = None, GTA is best left be.

Probably GTA IV even though I hated it, it had the most realistic story. But since when have movies need to be realistic

All of them! As long as they were directed by Uwe Boll!

Not really.

I always thought it would be a cool idea. But I also always thought it should be an animated film like the artwork for gta. Think A Scanner Darkly

They already made a GTA San Andreas movie.
It was called "Boyz N the Hood" and Morpheus from The Matrix was in it.

If any could be done as a reasonably good movie with comedy but not enough to be overly goofy it would be GTA 4.

It is almost impossible, all the sarcasm in the game criticizing everything in the wold.. Wouldn't be accepted by promotors.

I'd like to see a GTA movie but i know it is impossible.

None. There's no way this could be done in true GTA fashion without upsetting a lot of fans.

Also, given it's non-linear style, can't see it following a plot without compromise.

However, they could make one with a whole new storyline using GTA characters...

If there was ever to be a movie based on the GTA fanchise my vote goes to GTA IV. However it should taken from all there angles, not just Niko's.

Lets just hope this never happens though as i don't want a movie company ruining the best GTA story ever.

I'm going with none. A movie based on a game heavily inspired by/full of references to multiple movies just wouldn't work. And then of course vice city ~=Scarface already.

Maybe GTA IV.

Interesting topic!

I'd have to go with GTA IV. IV's storyline was so epicly unique, dramatic, and emotional, to say the least. This was the first game to have ever been as interactive like future games such as Grand Theft Auto V, which included giving players the ability to make personal, interactive decisions that greatly affect the consequences, opportunities, and outcome of the game's player-dynamic driven experience. There was no inspiration, or dramatic account of any real-life movie or literary productions such as GTA: SA and Boyz n the Hood, and GTA: Vice City and Scarface. The storyline is unique, but is also subliminally relative ideas that are shared with the players of this game; the story of an immigrant in America, trying to strike it rich or modest and live the American Dream. With the US being a major customer base for these types of video games, in particular the GTA series, it can be attributed to all citizens of the United States that this too was an experience that was felt with many players. It would only be right that GTA IV would be made into a movie adaptation, but I also have standards as how to keep the movie ruining the image of the brand and company. It should be made with a talented director, someone who has knowledge in film and artistic expression, and isn;t necessarily a director (*cough* Michael Bay*) that relies on CGI and artificial character motion to entertain its audience. Making a movie would be difficult, though, which is why I think this will never even happen. Since the game has no fixated storyline, its use of player-story interaction through the usage of mission decisions and freedom of choices would limit the influence that GTA IV has in the gaming community, a game that sought to give players more interaction and interest with the game and its features. If the movie is made, and follows one of the different story outcomes, it would hurt its reputability as a game of no linear and fixed storyline.
