Man that guys voice is easy to listen to, get him a radio job. Nice video.

Still waiting for the season pass to drop to a reasonable price, these things really don't go on sale often do they? Sheesh.

...Then there's the CIA background that they gave Lincoln which is just a bunch of lazy hackneyed Hollywood horsesh*t upon which the plot is built.  Without that, they'd have no way to move the story forward.  This makes Lincoln feel like little more than a CIA-trained psychopath with little to no emotion who trudges around in the deep south occasionally putting up with attacks from Ray's sis...

What's funny is that I was literally going to make a post praising this particular aspect of the game. Lincoln is unlike Tommy Vercetti, or Claude, or Franklin, Michael, and Trevor. His combat knowledge, weapons proficiency, and penchant for killing scores of men in cold blood is both explained and justified by the fact that he's ex-CIA and that he served in Vietnam. His combat training/experience could enable him to take out a distillery full of bad guys, or turn a slaughterhouse into a slaughterhouse.

As much as I love GTA, with the exception of Niko (he had some shadowy military background, IIRC), none of the series' protagonists could actually survive a fraction of the situations that they're routinely thrust into. Lincoln, on the other hand, knows how to murder, and is quite familiar with killing, death, loss, and the subsequent psychological issues that they bring. I felt that his military/CIA experience lent an air of authenticity to his characters that a lot of video game characters don't get.

Not just that, but it's also a fitting way of working in a then-contemporary conflict into the protagonist's backstory, and the inciting incident of the overall plot - same with how Mafia II and (L.A. Noire, which isn't a million miles removed from the tone and experience of the Mafia games) used WWII. Vito signs up as an easy 'out' to avoid jail, and likewise falls in with the mob as a more tempting path than just picking up the same drudgery as his father. On top of that, there's an intentional undercurrent of post-war 'nice house, fancy car, white picket fence' promise that Vito aspires towards, actually achieves briefly, and ...is yanked away because of the precarious nature of always being the middleman in the Mafia (never the person on top, always trying to avoid being the person at the very bottom). Yanno, as a parallel for 'expectation/reality' in post-war America in general. ;)

With Licoln, Vietnam, and 1968, Mafia III takes the same approach - but the relevant theme isn't 'reality not living up to the dream', so much as 'I've seen done, things, man - you weren't there!'. Except instead of Lincoln coming back with personal demons, he was someone trained to dish all that out - like how some soldiers need to readjust to society because of the traumatic things they've witnessed, but commandos, snipers, etc. often have to relearn how to be well-rounded human beings again, having spent so long being able to commit morally-dubious acts without hesitation or regret.

That's the point of rather blunt conversation with the WWII veteran (a marine, no less) at the beginning, where he tells Lincoln "just because you're home, doesn't mean you're back" - considering that Lincoln's experience of Vietnam wasn't so much witnessing the horrors of war so much as dispensing them, bringing that back with him is ...well, that's how the game's story pans out, doesn't it? Purely mechanically, it's the same as Crackdown's approach to dismantling the various factions from the bottom up - but Mafia III's approach not only makes for a workable answer to 'how do you dismantle the entire criminal underworld of a city?', but also does so in a way that's thematically/historically relevant, and more believable than just taking the easy out of treating Lincoln like The Punisher...

The order of the districts doesn't matter. If I remember right, you unlock more districts to take over later on, so simply do those available to you right now in any order. Do the ones you unlock later afterwards.

I mean as to how they affect the story. if you kill the  underboss of tickfaw details open up about sals casino his property fronts and the counterfeit money in cuba and Lincoln gets emotional and enraged at that moment and decides all bets are off. if you go after Enzo, Enzo mentions details about the money in cuba etc. if you go after toney danzio etc.  what i'm saying is in which order does this happen. i'm tempted to go after  the downtown district but I think I better continue with tickfaw. I've already taken over Barclay mills.

It just struck me that I have not posted anything about how much I enjoy this game. I really like it A LOT. Of course, I have some complaints, like that the customization options are way too limited (this is 2017, goddamit) and that there are not any motorcycles in New Bordeaux. But still, on many levels I actually prefer it to GTAV, not least when it comes to gunplay and story. And the DLC:s kick ass.

ROFLMAO. I know right?

I've sold the game last month. I mean, let's just take a look at car customisation. Those cars they showed in the ads in the website never even happened to get customisable until now. There ARE cars with modified variants in the game, but for some reason, they didn't let us access them.

Not only that, last time they also said "there will be extra car customisation coming up" and it turned out only Top Speed/Acceleration upgrade option. LOL. And "License Plate customisation". Turned out to be only 20 presets.

Surely brought me back to GTA Online days reading Rockstar's Newswire.

After having played this game numerous times, I can honestly say I like this game but it should have been called something else other than MAFIA imo. MAFIA II still remains my favorite out of the series.

I put this game off for a long time after trying it on my PC upon release and finding it so poorly optimized that it was unplayable (and keep in mind, my rig is no slouch; I can run other shoddy ports like Fallout 4 and Watch_Dogs 2 at 1440p/60fps with ease), but recently I found a used PS4 copy for a decent price. I love the first two Mafia games and I was excited for this one until realizing that I wouldn't be able to play it on my PC, so I picked it up.

Right off the bat I realized that the performance is kind of six in one and half a dozen in the other - either massive stutters on the PC version, or low framerates and significant input latency on the PS4. Before someone says "I didn't experience any input latency and I played the PS4 version," try the PC version. When it isn't stuttering like mad, it is much more responsive even when using a controller. Anyway, I decided that input latency was better than stutter and kept playing. Not to mention that on both versions, there are many graphical issues, from the washed out colors and extreme brightness to the chrome that's just... weird, I don't know how else to describe it. In the dark it almost looks like chrome, but in the light it just turns white. The game is also plagued with pop-in, which is especially noticeable on the coast when driving a boat. If I remember correctly, this was Hangar 13's first AAA title, and unfortunately it definitely shows. None of these issues leave the game unplayable, but they do leave it feeling very lacking in polish.

As for gameplay, I've been having a blast. Stealth is great in this game and so far I haven't had any instances that felt unfair or bugged out in any way. The vehicles handle well in both the normal and simulation modes. The story also gets a thumbs up from me; I know a lot of people take issue with a Mafia game based around fighting the mafia, but I feel like it works. Mafia 1 and 2 already do a fantastic job of portraying a typical mafioso climbing the ladder, and I think if an inexperienced studio like Hangar 13 had tried that, it would have ended up feeling like Mafia 2.5. Keep in mind that I'm still very early in the game, though (I just started working for Vito and Burke) so my opinion could change, but so far I'm definitely a fan. The soundtrack is probably this game's strongest aspect; every part of it is just f*cking perfect. I never switch to a station and feel like it's playing a song that I would never, under any circumstance, want to listen to. By contrast, Mafia 3's biggest competitor, Watch_Dogs 2, was the complete opposite for me. I can't remember particularly liking any of the music in that game.

In the end, I like the game and I definitely prefer it over its aforementioned competitor, but the technical aspects really do bring it down. It makes me miss the days when I could just sit down and play a game without noticing those kinds of issues, but I guess I've just spent too much time playing on the PC and being a performance snob.

Haven't bought this yet due to the mixed response and announcement of season pass. Games with season passes filled with story DLC usually get "GOTY" versions later on. So, I've been waiting for that version so I don't have to double dip. But, it's been over a year now, so I'm starting to wonder if they're ever going to release a complete edition or not.

I'm on PS4

I have completed the game and the Season Pass DLC's  and there's a glitch that causes Molotov, cocktails unable to be selected

I wonder if starting a new game will fix the glitch? Does anyone know? It's my first play through.

i just finished sign of the times yesterday and it was amazing. the story was like a psycological thriller. it was filled with action. i'm still not finished rebuilding sammy's though. after playing yester day i was thinking what if mafia 3 had a multiplayer mode. it wouldn't be as ambitous as gta v just something in the vain of gta IV  or red dead multiplayer.  it would take place a few months after the story the theme would be about gangs fighting for control of new Bordeaux ever since Lincoln left the city. you can join vito, burk or the black mob and your character would be based on the npc models with both male or female versions and also you can make a custom character like in gta 4 multiplayer where you select torso, head types, hats , shoes etc.

possibly there would be other factions  to join as well like the the voice's black revolutionaries, the mercenaries from stones unturned etc. the Dixie mafia, the ensanglante , parish county shariffs department would be enemy npc's  as well as random mobster or some new made up mobs for the game.  like I said it would be as ambitious as gta online where you buy safehouses, clothes cars etc. but your mob will have a hideout where you all meet like all the random factories in the game and restaurant interiors where you can hang out at and also chose a racket for your mob to run but it wont be permenant you can occupy these spots until a rival mob runs you out if they defeat you. also there would be about 20- 30 co op missions as well as vs missions ,races, and deathmatches. I know they made an ios game of this kind of nature but what do you guys think?

The single player was kind of in f*cking shambles when it came out, I don't want to imagine what multiplayer would've been like.

I'd buy this game if you could get rid of the hand holding icons floating all over the place

I just saw that speedo/mirror are optional now.

Maybe in another year they'll finish adding options that coerce me into purchasing it finally.

Can't even watch gameplay without getting angry at the "this is a door to a car, press this button to enter it" garbage.

Trust me Cop A. I. is bad. I hid behind a fence on the corner of the wall and the cops I killed piled up as I shot 'em while they climbed over the fence, it lasted until I ran out of ammo. It was funny as hell. Just about any vehicle off the street can out run the cops.First off only the passenger uses a gun a shot gun if you kill the passenger then driver has no defense against you, if you kill 'em all then the search will be called off.

You can switch off the tutorial icons in the options menu.

i'm on ps4 if you hit the start button and go to options then find the panel labelled "game settings" the options   for tutorial is at the bottom and you can show or hide them. i don't think it will disable the diamond waypoint markers on screen but it should do away with constant instructionals. i don't know about square button prompts for opening doors though.

I don't mind it indoors too much, for the sake of clarifying if a door is openable or not. It's when you're on foot outside, walking past vehicles, and you get dumb little icons on the doors of every car you pass. It's extremely unnecessary and immersion breaking.

have you played any of the DLCs? They are only 2hrs long but it made the overall experience better for me! and its like with the sun being so bright they tried to hide the low rez textures and washed out graphics... But the game can actually look good at times  :)clm17e1og1rz.png

Here's a very interesting comparison video between Mafia 1 and Mafia 3.

Nice observations. Those who look down on old games just because of the graphics must watch it. The games back then offered many things that new games still don't.

I only thought to backup my save AFTER applying the patch, and I think the new save must've saved over it. I still have the saves though, and when I pasted them back into the correct folders, it just takes me to the new save...

I'm glad I bought this game, the immersion and detail of the city is stunning. Still a bit buggy and glitchy at times but I can forgive that. Dont know if its just me, but I kinda saw giorgi's betrayal coming, smile of a rat lol.

The gunplay is goddamn brutal. Blasted a enemy with a shotgun and he fell to the ground gargling and twitching. Some really spot on weapon characteristics and the sounds are fantastic

prologue feels weird to me, like it jumps from robbing the vault, to suddenly driving home with ellis and free roaming before beig back at the depository. Haha, the thing with the haitians gives some good vice city vibes

Also, nice to know 'in the gadda da vida' by iron butterfly appears on the radio. Thats some manhunter sh*t right there.
Just wanted to give my two cents of this game

Edit: found it! Its on wnbx, but its not the full 17 min song. Boooo!

Er, can we post images of places we've found?

One thing, whats everyones dynamic range option set to?

Which version number is the racing and car mods update? I haven't played the game in a while and I can't remember if I've updated it or not, and I pretty much only wanna play to tune cars and race. I restarted the game to refresh my mind, but like I said, I don't wanna keep progressing until I know for sure if it's the correct game version. When I go to file location, mafia3.exe is verison 1.0.0.1 but the launcher is version 1.0.0.0.
