I know right? That post is basically a brief summary of the general attitude towards GTA IV.

Having anything positive to say about it is unpopular from the first hand experience I've had.

I guess we GTA IV fanboys will always be forever alone.

i like gta 5 story it had a good amount of missions we don't need 90-100 in every gta

gang wars sucked and they are overrated

vigilante makes no sense we are playing as criminals why would we be doing that carp for the cops

i liked the phone calls in gta 4

i liked the mechanic in gta online

i liked friendship and the dating in 4 (it was probably the most fun you can get of of gta 4)

saints row is a lot more fun in some ways them gta

i will add more when i think of some

i don't want the next gta in vice city or any city we had before

i wish they would make they own cities like they did with 3 vc and sa then try and recreate real life ones

- Tommy Vercetti is a great protag, but he's highly overrated.
- Same goes for Michael.
- SA was a ginormagantic screwjob.
- Same goes for V.
- TLAD was perfect.
- HD Universe was terrible at naming locations.
- Different Universes are the biggest load of bullsh*t I have ever heard.
- I prefer helicopters over planes.
- I would hate flying jumbo jets - they make no sense at all.
- I would rather play VC over SA any day.
- Immature 12-year olds playing GTA are the worst thing that ever happened to series. (Just remembered I was 14 myself... Ha! :-P)
- People who whine about both GTA IV's serious story and GTA V's Fisher-price story should be murdered in cold blood by Niko or James Earl Cash banned from playing video games.

And I'm out.

Mine:
-The jetpack is a cool feature in San Andreas

-The LCS and VCS games are astronomically bad. They are so awful they deserve a 1/10 rating. Not even a 4, a ONE.

  • The Cheetah is the ugliest car in GTA V
  • The Zentorno's back looks like it was made by a 12 year old. (still diggin' those taillights though.)
  • I liked GTA V's story better than San Andreas
  • I actually liked VCS, but there were some missions which were simply boring and repetitive.
  • I like Non Stop Pop FM.
  • Radio Los Santos was my least favorite station in V and SA.
  • The Feltzer was, and still is a piece of crap.

I'm out.

- IV has the worst character movement of any GTA.
- IV has the worst vehicle handling of any GTA.
- The physics for all GTAs, suck. But V is getting there...
- Niko's back story is the only engaging aspect of IV.
- IV has the best theme song of any GTA.
- Busting up vehicles and vehicle damage in V is more fun than in previous GTAs.
- V's stunt jumps are a bitch to locate.
- The cash rewards system in all GTAs, sucks.
- Main character voice acting is excellent in all GTAs.
- GTASA remains the funniest (overall) of all GTAs.
- All GTAs have dumb and gimmicky main stories.
- V's main story was the most unpredictable.
- Trevor is the funniest and smartest protagonist so far in a GTA.
- The only time vehicle hydraulics were fun was during the Lowrider Challenge in SA.
- CJ was funny and dumb, but very likable.
- GTASA offers the most character customization so far, with V in 2nd place.
- V is the most beautiful in terms of lighting, shadows, terrain, vegetation, models, landscapes etc.
- F--k VC, lets go someplace new in VI.
- V has the best Easter Eggs of any GTA.
- V's underwater landscape is appreciated and enjoyed by many players.
- V's map is the most diverse and it crams nearly everything into its solo island.
- All GTAs suck in terms of available open and explorable interiors.
- V offers the most weapon and vehicle selection with GTASA in 2nd place.
- V does everything right in creating unique atmospheres on every city block and in every rural area. You have to be on foot to appreciate it.
- Michael is painfully annoying because he is dumber than a box of rocks and he constantly whines.
- Franklin was the least developed protagonist of the three.
- In GTASA, Las Venturas was dreadfully dull.
- Both IV and V make me want to smash the radio.
- Mods are the reason any GTA will have longevity.
- Restricting access to map areas is and was always stupid in a GTA. Sandbox. Hello.
- Why the hell can't we have a satellite radar map?
- SP V should not require Internet access or additional devices to access all features. Duh.
- The idea of returning to LC in future GTAs is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
- No GTA does hand to hand combat well enough.
- V needs more land development up north, and additional mini-games and side missions.
- IV and LCS were the only two GTAs that I didn't bother to complete because I was either annoyed or bored.
- In all ways technical, V is superior to any previous GTA.
- The state of San Andreas has been the most interesting location among all GTAs.
- Cesar deserves a spot in V.
- It sucks that GTAIII was the only one to offer a classical radio station.
- I prefer the convenience stores in V to the fast food joints in previous GTAs. (I'd rather have new types of interiors to explore.)
- IV's map was just plain boring.
- GTAO needs a lot of work to keep me interested.
- Lamar would have been more likable if he didn't say nigga every other word in conversation.
- R* fails with most of its attempts to parody U.S. politics and seems to have little understanding of liberals and conservatives. Their best bit in V was the Jock Cranely advert.
- Nobody sandboxes with quality, quite like R*.

-I feel like some GTA V players who played GTA V and only sees the bad stuff in it rather than the good stuff in it needs to have their head crushed between 2 stones.

for example like:

"GTA V has poor character development, but the other things are great..but still.... 1/10!!"

"GTA V doesn't excel at anything...(when it does) 1/10!!!!"

I mean come on, THERE'S SOME GOOD STUFF IN IT, IT'S WEIRD THAT YOU CALL YOURSELF A GTA FAN AND COMPLETELY HATING/IGNORING V.

III:

Rise FM is the better than Electro Choc and Soulwax.

Don't like how Vice City shadowed III's existence.

Felt great to kill Salvatore.

Vice City:

I dislike Tommy Vercetti.

Vice City was the worst GTA game I've played.

Not an 80's kid or fond of the subculture at the time.

Wildstyle FM is my favorite station.

Advance:

Mike is pretty straightforward with his goals.

"Let me show you how it's done" was tolerable.

San Andreas:

Grew up listening to songs from CSR 103.9.

Dislike K-DST.

Liberty City Stories:

Salvatore wasn't too great.

Felt sorry for the victims at Fort Staunton.

I have Philosophical conflicts with Toni.

Vice City Stories:

Felt sorry for the other two mansion owners at Prawn Island.

Vic is dead, why bother playing as him?

I like the empire feature.

IV:

Deal Ending was way better than Revenge by a long shot.

Wasted time playing Johnny now that he's dead.

Dimitri was pretty cool. If it weren't for him, Niko wouldn't be rich.

I understand Dimitri's mindset.

Patrick McReary was annoying.

Killed Dwayne because Playboy X has a vision and a better future.

Didn't spare anyone when given the option to.

Chinatown Wars:

Huang Lee is the best protagonist.

Chinatown Wars is the most fun GTA game I've played by far.

DS version is better than the PSP.

GTAV:

I miss the physics in GTAIV.

Didn't feel like I was myself in GTA V because there's three protagonists.

Not too fond of protagonists having their own car. Made me lose interest with player's choice of cars.

Sending Patrick McReary to the Altruists was a hilarious move! Because they're cannibals and he's a potato head.

Soulwax is my favorite producer.

Johnny's death wasn't a big deal to me.

Feel sorry for Wei Cheng, he just wants to expand his business.

I wonder how many people notice that Tao Cheng actually on ecstasy and acid, not marijuana or meth.

I wanted to go to a rave or club in GTAV / Online.

Own an Entity XF because it's manufactured in Sweden, not because it's the fastest car.

Not too fond of controlling your car in mid air, though understandable.

I do agree with all your point here actually, but the highlighted one really stuck out to me. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's "hideous", but definutley far from the be-all-and-end-all antagonist some people around here make him out to be (sorry SOL I'm looking at you here).

If you ask me Billy is the perfect antagonist from the series. Dimitri may have been able to manipulate Niko, but the difference was that he never had that same connection as Johnny and Billy did. You could still tell that even though the drugs destroyed his mind and he betrayed him, that Johnny didn't want to kill him.

But basically my bottom line is that the antagonist is always more effective when there's some type of personal connection as opposed to just doing a few jobs for someone and then them f*cking with you the whole game. That said though IV's story still does get a 9/10 from me.

The Massacro looks basically like a souped up Rapid GT, meh. One more unpopular opinion:

-FlyLo FM only has one good song, and that's Shadow Child - 23.

-Soulwax FM is the best house/techno station in the Series.

I see your point NV112, but I don't really agree that a more personal connection is as effective. Billy was as predictable as Sonny, Tenpenny etc.

Yes Dimitri didn't have the same personal connection, but I felt like his betrayal was as much of mine as Niko's. I never really got that feeling with Billy as it felt like I was simply an outsider watching in on his and Johnny's problems.

Dimitiri's betrayal struck me (as a player) on a personal level as not only did he betray Niko's character, but me also. Like Niko I felt like I trusted him. I actually didn't think he was going to be a major character the first time I played GTA IV.

With guys like Billy I felt a simple "Meh. I'll kill you later on". Dimitri came from under the radar and completey flipped things on its head in a way no previous antagonist did. I think there's a perfectly good reason why his character is so highly regarded.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't go as far as saying that he's a bad antagonist. He's effective, but I just feel he's a little overrated. I predicted him selling out Niko the moment he asked us to kill Faustin, and the fact that we hadn't been intoduced to any currently anagonistic characters at that point didn't make it to hard to tell.

And then there's the fact that until Roman gets kidnapped (which if you match up the storylines doesn't happen until just before the diamond deal) he gets very few mentions or even appearances (I know it was similar to Billy's dissapearance, but I tend to overlook that part as TLAD is short). He's nowhere near as bad as the antagonists in LCS or V, but there was just a big period where he no longer felt like a threat.

I can see your point though and respect it, but unless of course the Deal ending is chosen he just doesn't seem as effective as Billy did to me. But I think we can both agree they both blow Wei Cheng and Strech FAR out of the water.

Personally I don't think the 'friendly character' who turns into 'backstabbing antagonist' was done better than with Big Smoke back in San Andreas.
That one was a real WTF surprise to me. On a personal level not only did I find the character entertaining but his mission branch were some of the most memorable too, so yes, I did find it outrageous that he turned out to be a traitor, also because it then guarantees that I had to kill him later on.

Similar to Billy and Dimitri, Big Smoke kind of goes off the radar for the duration of the game, except for the occasional speeches he makes on the in-game radio news, or the drug courier side missions.

Then during the final mission the confrontation was just one big sad affair, cutscene wise. Neither Big Smoke nor Carl were going to back down from where they stand on the moral ground. And in his final breathes Big Smoke continued to assert that he did what had to be done to be 'a success'.
I mean it just thematically meshes with the overall story, and defining the crapsack world the game took place in.

Dimitri meanwhile kind of acts like a troll, being unshamelessly proud of his actions and every once in a while mocking Niko for no good reasons. It then felt 'good' to finally kill off Dimitri, whereas with Big Smoke it just feels empty and unfulfilling.
Killing off Dimitri, especially in the Revenge ending, didn't mesh well with Niko's overall plot either; Niko had already been killing off unsympathetic characters left and right, Dimitri was just one that simply took too long to meet his end.

So there goes my unpopular opinion:

- Big Smoke was the best antagonist to date.

Also more unpopular opinions:

- Both Johnny Klebitz and Trevor Philips are among the top five protagonists of the franchise.
- Having multiple endings in the latest Grand Theft Autos is a bad idea.
- Epsilon Program assignments in V were fun and creative. The fact that it ties into the money spending aspect was interesting.
- Gold medal challenges in modern Grand Theft Autos are not fun, especially when they forces the player to speed through the game and skipping cutscenes.
- Never bothered using car bombs in older Grand Theft Autos. Never saw the point to it.

Victor and Franklin were so emotionless. I remember playing VCS for the first time and thinking, "This guy is one of the best protagonists!". I replayed about a year ago and realized that he was emotionless, approached everything with a "I'm not a criminal" attitude, and spoke in the most annoying monotonous voice that made Microsoft Sam fun to listen to.

Niko never did run people over an SUV though. It was we who made him did it. You could use the same logic for Tommy and say "Hey I can build an Empire but I can't swim!" and say he was poorly written which makes no sense at all. Plus Niko did not have that "I do not want to be a criminal" attitude. Well not to a great extent at least. We wanted to stop doing bad things but he couldn't stop doing them in LC and he eventually succumbed to it.

Basically everything we do in free roam is non canon. Think of Tommy for example. In the story all he's interested in is making a name for himself yet he finds time to deliver pizzas? Or Trevor who everyone thinks is so "crazy" has the time to play a round of golf?

Honestly though I feel people exaggerate this part of Niko's character. He's hardly a wrist slashing emo. While he wants to put his criminal life behind him he knows it's something he's good at and does what he can to survive.

To be fair I can see why some people dislike Niko. A lot of people don't like the dark and gritty story and atmosphere of IV while I personally loved it. Also people expected Niko to be rich and all the moment he stepped in because of Roman's letters and I actually kinda agree with them. Niko should have got at least a small dose of the American Dream even if it wasn't his primary objective.
