I still pretty sure that driving in the opposite direction to hit other cars isn't what real life racers do.

I'll probably start racing when this option is out. IV experience has thought me that if someone can hit your car, they'll be bumping it everywhere. Much easier with Ghost cars.

People can't even remember to turn off crap-ass catchup, yet we "need" ghost racing...dumb

I'm guessing you don't know what a street race is either. Contact is largely non-existent in street races. So when you say street race, what I think you mean to say is demolition derby. ;)

bumping and causing spin-outs are normal in street racing

Colliding to another car, losing multiple expensive parts, destroying your paintjob, and possibly killing innocent civilians by crushing them under the car that just spun you just hit off the road. According to that logic, all Real life drivers should be broke and dead/in Jail for multiple murder charges.

It wasn't in a movie, kiddo

Yes it was.

And sorry if I spoil this one too, but Santa Claus is your dad.

Yes, yes, I know it hurts but it's about time you know these things.

The issue is that a lot of GTA racers have the mentality of "LULZ RAM THEM CUZ I CANZ!!!!1!!!" and just turn every race into bumper cars.

By having a non-contact option, the races actually become a lot more skill based (like a time trial). Winning becomes more about how well you can taker corners, how you manage your speed, avoiding other  traffic (I assume non-contact will only apply to other players) and how well you drive in general.

But of course, just like everything else Rockstar adds, the same people will complain because it isn't their precious heists they've hyped themselves up for.

I think it's become somewhat of a snowball effect since release. I don't think it justifies it but I think a lot of the people who do it do because they think if they don't do it first it's going to happen to them. Like I said, I don't race very much, but pretty much every time I've been rammed I considered ramming them but end up deciding not to foolishly thinking "Maybe this one's not going to", only for it to turn into a big I-told-you-so moment in my head 5 seconds later. It's cost me more than just a few races, but for whatever reason I just can't bring myself to be 'that guy', even for a single race.

Maybe adding a last-person-standing Destruction Derby with reduced car armor (like -50% armor for more realistic damage) will reduce it a bit, but probably not. It'd be fun, though.

I wonder if everybody in free roam will become super-schitty drivers - they'll train themselves to ignore other cars and drive right through them. I'm with the guy who yelled "pussy." Seriously. What's next? Remove all streetsigns, lamps and other obstacles mode? Perhaps we need an "appear to win" mode where all cars but yours seem to slow down near the finish line and everyone can think they got first. FFS! Rockstar even put a "press this button to win" option in single player! Fukking tools! That used to be a joke!

You are adding 1 and 1 together and coming up with three. You might wish to see someone about that, then come back to this thread and make another argument.

I'd be happy to play non-collision races.

During normal races I always ram my way to 1st before I get rammed to last place. I can happily do non-contact races now but only with people I know.

EVERY DAMN RACE IM IN IS CATCHUP AND SLIP STREAM. its aggravating cause it means I have to focus more to not let catchup get the better of me and stay in front.

This...when coupled with Long Haul 2 is just bumper cars.. Same with the Commute.

i prefer to race clean, but i race dirty by default on those tracks when in PACKED public games..  I mean why not?  If you take the lead you will be punished by not only catch up but other players too.  So..you need to cause as much problems as possible to maintain that lead.  Or be lucky enough to trade slip streams and catch up curses with a fellow racer.  Turns... turns are the only way to avoid the garbage racers that smash constantly.  Nothing makes me laugh more cutting a turn so perfect that a the racer going for the ram just misses you and goes flying off the road.  But that catch up....  god i hate catch up.

The way i see it..  R* should have added axle damage to punish players who constantly make contact with the front or side of their car.   That would have made people stop doing that so much..  In GTA 4 a single hard bump would turn your tire side ways and you would be screwed.

I personally don't care about ghost racing.. I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Hopefully the real racers will start racing again once the kiddies realize that they can only play bumpercars with NPC traffic. It will make my day to see some moron try to crash into me as I am braking for a turn, only to fly through like a ghost and directly into that very solid tree.

Real racers don't race with ghosts.     :p

Would it be a dick move to say "It's not real racing, it's GTA" like how anyone else always uses when talking about which cars are better, etc.? Funny how when it comes to freeroam it's all "I play how I wanna play", but with this all of a sudden it's a crime against all things good and proper?

Well.. Ghost racing goes against the point of street racing so it a pretty bullsh*t concept.  Just like AA in PVP...What the point?

But..   Ghost racing?  I don't understand the point of loddy deee dahing it through invisible cars all day and call that a race.  I don't get it...Il never get it.  I was not built that way to get that.   :D

Racing with assholes in public races on tracks more prone to bumps and rams is said players fault for joining.  If you join a PACKED race with catch up and slip stream with randoms and expect a clean race, well that player is on bad drugs. And some tracks just call for smashes like 4 Way Madness, its meant to have collisions wether on purpose or not.

I think people just have a hard time dealing with things.

Will they have to disable the other settings when you choose to use non collission or otherwise known as ghost mode?

I just pictured a Ghost race on Long Haul with Catchup on being a headache inducing swarm of cars trading leads and causing gunfire in the race ticker.

It would be even more visually jacked up with slipstream on.

I think they might force people to chose between the crutches.

I could only imagine Catch Up and Ghosting being a game of Hot Potato...lol

Honestly, it sucks.. Seriously? Is it really necessary to remove the reality of racing? Cars collide..simple as that.

What's next? Airsoft deathmatches?

I suspect that when you say "cars collide.." you mean "I really really really need to spin out others to win".

And this mode, as a means of getting away from this behavior, is very welcome to me. :)

ok because that happens every race.
but you know what? You're right, its better to drive through the guy in first place than to collide with him (sarcasm)

No no, he's got a point.

This is GTA. A game where shooting cops, stealing cars and causing mass mayhem is, or I should say "was" allowed.
this new ghost racing mode is a joke. Just like passive mode and having to pay for blowing up PVs.
In a game whose nature is to steal and kill and break every law imaginable in complete defiance, a portion of the fan base is complaining that this is not fair.
And its because of these complainers that R* is making Online a "Sims" version of GTA so that the whining 12 year olds can enjoy their part-time/ semi-bad criminal life

Its still a race, the only thing different is you don't get the chance to bump into someone which this community so loves to do. Oh "I can't smash into someone so its not a race" lol you should be avoiding other racers to begin with.

Edit: Stop bitching you don't have to play it

This doesn't make the game easier, but harder, in the sense that the best will always win like this. There won't be lucking into wins anymore, only deserved ones.

I won't ever use it, but to be against it being there is crying for the sake of it. It will improve the experience of crew-less open lobby clean racers, and it won't affect me. So I couldn't care less. The more customization options, the more freedom.

All updates have done wonders regarding racing.

They have indeed solved errors (forced OP slipstream, first verified tracks being crap...)

The boosted money earned for solo racing training races.

They gave us options to widen the racing experience: no slipstream option, new vehicles, new tracks, ghost option now...

Only a total fool would critizise what they have done with racing from day 1 to today.

I could say I am a decent driver since I carried over the experience from some other racing games [Even though the mechanics and physics of GTA V/O are TERRIBLE] but this will be honestly useful.
Since I either host my own races or join friends who know how to do some serious racing lobby, that's all I race on.

Being pitted by others just because they're too nervous about losing their position is quite annoying, especially because if someone actually succeeds on pitting you, it's partly your fault.

My comment never mentioned anything about R*'s adjustments to racing, it was a general statement.
But since you brought it up...
Payouts are still a fraction to what they used to be, there aren't really any new cars aside from 3(business update) and what new tracks?

Ok so it's not an instawin option, but it takes away a lot from the race. Instead of having a realistic race, we now have a simulation race in which however doesn't hit a pole or brake too hard will win.

As a huge Trackmania fan, I'd find non-collision racing to be a nice option and break from the usual collision racing without having to race tracks on my own.

What really looks like is that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

Payouts are high enough if you win (think that's your problem), and much higher than before for solo races, more than double. Being a regular race winner is a huge money income.

There are cool vehicles already added in two different updates(there was good stuff in beach bum, like bifta or injection, you'd know if you raced any other thing than supers) and more on their way.

They have released EXCELLENT tracks like Nurburgring (you're probably allergic to it anyway, I'm afraid it's out of your comfort zone), plus the creator itself, which is the best thing that happened to racing.

And let's not forget the slipstream toggle. God bless it.

They are really nailing it on the racing side.

Your petty mockery is actually amusing. Now, I've won my fair share of races, and if there are some decent racers competing, I earn around 10-12k which is a decent payout. But before in previous updates, I've earned as high as 17 or 18k.
That track you mentioned is ok, but i rarely race on its you're right, not my favorite track.
The creator is amazing, but more of the releases I've tried suck, only a few good ones.
And yeah, toggling slipstream is a lifesend.
So now that we agree on some things, you can stop sucking R* off
And by the way, I love it how you pretend to know my style and my car preferences. Its pretty pathetic actually

fastest, but not necessarily the best. cuz honestly, anyone can drive the course. And my bet is, who ever gets the turbo boost at the stat will have a considerable advantage over those who miss it.

Well if we'z gonna get all technical and shiiiitz.

Racing means having to deal with other racers.  The best part of racing is mixing it up with other players even if its good or bad.  Thats what racing is.

I guess if people just want to race for the best time this would be a win.

But that would be called a time trial.  So the fastest driver would win, not the best racer.

If you think that means the same thing.. Then the best 'racer' would not need ghosts to win anything.  Because the best racers are always in front anyways.. They don't need no stinkin ghosts
