I'm guessing you don't know what a street race is either. Contact is largely non-existent in street races. So when you say street race, what I think you mean to say is demolition derby. ;)

bumping and causing spin-outs are normal in street racing

No, no they're not.   What kind of dumb ass is going to bump another car and risk damaging their vehicle?   Either they're broke and can only afford a ricer or they have a pretty damn expensive car and equally expensive parts that would need replaced from bumping and rubbing.

When they add ghost mode, no one will be playing races with it, because a lot people like to be douchebags and just want to ram other players in races.

I hate it when others ram into me but the other day I crashed into this one guy by mistake and I just felt bad as we were both fighting for 1st and we finished last.

Hopefully the real racers will start racing again once the kiddies realize that they can only play bumpercars with NPC traffic. It will make my day to see some moron try to crash into me as I am braking for a turn, only to fly through like a ghost and directly into that very solid tree.

Won't race with it active. Same with slipstream and catchup. Unless it is a GTA race of course. The leaderboards are already f*cked, so I'm sure it will only get worse.

Real racers don't need collision off. With this mode on...it is a time trial, not a race.

It's true, they put all those expensive pieces of plastic, expensive paint and expensive performance parts on their cars because they like paying to replace them after a race lol.

Not to mention attempted murder or vehicular manslaughter!  It ain't a race if everyone lives...

I thought they were automatically repaired after every race free of cost? Still learning...

It will be strange in car racing,

I remember playing that snowboard game and it a ghost mode to race against each other. that was pretty cool.

I don't see what is so strange. I'm pretty sure most of the racing games that have come out recently have ghost racing as well as the older ones.

No collisions has been in Trackmania from day one and it has not stopped being popular.

Maybe GTA Online should gave the option to turn ghost racing on\off.

In upcoming Title Updates and via dynamic tuning, you can expect:

  • The addition of a 'Non-Contact' option for Races. This will allow you to play standard Races with collisions disabled between player vehicles. Other players will appear as semi-transparent and you'll still be able to collide with non-player traffic, structures and other scenery, but this mode - for those who want to play it - will eliminate the "rubbing is racing" mentality that some wish to avoid.

I'm also pretty sure that "Non-collision" races will be an entirely different racing mode altogether.  We will have Standard, GTA, Rally, and Non-collision races.

Not going to get into that whole skill debate. Let's face it though this WILL be good for races where it's almost impossible to pass clean because they are tight races. It will benefit 16 player races and those with traffic on. They will probably have it as a different mode like RDT said.

That's circumstantial.   Let's say you have some good racers and a few bad racers.   A bad racer wrecks you near the beginning of the race you may never recover to gain on the other good racers.   This only affect good drivers because it makes blocking impossible.   Other than that, I'd rather not be cheaply whipped out.

It's a nice option to have.

Honestly, it sucks.. Seriously? Is it really necessary to remove the reality of racing? Cars collide..simple as that.

What's next? Airsoft deathmatches?

And if you can get a race with real racers, then you will be able to turn player contact on, and everybody will be happy. but if I am racing against randoms, I won't waste my time with another stupid game of bumper cars. You guys have fun and run into each other all day long. I will try to beat my best time racing alone.

Looking forward to non contact as it will be time trials like rally especially on the trickier races  but just hope catch up and slip is off.

Just choose to race against people with contact on. We won't be racing together, so both of us will be happy. That way, you can play bumpercars and I can race.

I'm going on a hunch here, but I think choosing No Contact would automatically disable Catchup and Slipstream. Or at least that should be the way it works.

It should, otherwise people would be drafting right through other peoples' ghosts

It would be interesting to see two cars oscillating between the lead as each slipstreams through the other.  :)

I'm not familiar with the culture of underground racing but I didn't know people using their cars to intentionally cause wrecks in real life was a regular tactic in street racing. Always learning something on gtaforums.

In real life, I would assume that people race to win; in GTA0, people race just like they play free-roam - main purpose being to ruin other people's fun, not just win.  :bored:

Immediate, automatic, free post-race repair only happens in real life.  :p  But you have to wait until after the winner does the air thrust.

As much as ghost racing will kill the "realism" for me, I intend on using it. The pitting is a little too much now.

Either way, haters be hating because Rockstar is giving us options.

Personally I don't mind the option. I just feel there are a lot more important things to worry about than this.

I'd definitely be more than happy doing a bunch of ghost races.

OT: I would assume the other options would be made obsolete when ghost mode activated as it wouldn't make enough sense even by R* physics standards to have slipstream/catchup on. I just think it'd be stupid for them to be enabled.

Am i to assume that the word "optional" is supposed to be emphasized?

And by race i guess you mean engage in an artifically stimulation by which most laws of nature/physics are ignored?
My issue is that ill probably run into a dozen of these fake races before i find one i want to race in

EVERY DAMN RACE IM IN IS CATCHUP AND SLIP STREAM. its aggravating cause it means I have to focus more to not let catchup get the better of me and stay in front. If I host a race its never with catch up or slipstream on, no one seems to notice anyway and every one ends up getting smoked. no doubt non collision is never gonna be on :(

I suspect that when you say "cars collide.." you mean "I really really really need to spin out others to win".

And this mode, as a means of getting away from this behavior, is very welcome to me. :)

Ghost racing should be for those who drives the wrong way to crash into you because they missed their first corner or just wanna troll other people by driving the whole track backwards...
or to help their friends getting 1st...

also ghost racing while starting the race but further on in the race it should be back 2 basics

i hope they get it right.
