Most crime games are usually about some guy who kills people for the fun of it, Niko felt like a character you could feel sympathy for.

It's a dark, emotional story filled with gangs, robberies and humour, not to mention a tough character who is a natural killer.

Without a doubt, the best GTA and crime game in terms of story and characters. Brucie is hillarious, Packie is dangerous and Jacob is loyal.

I don't know about in general, but as for the GTA series, yes. It's the only story that feels real IMO.

It would be hard to say if it had the best, because there are still Mafia and two parts of Getaway trying to claim that title, but it was undoubtedly one of the best.

For me personally, Vice City wins that title. But GTA IV come's very close - I'd be fine with it, if someone said it was the best.

Vice City's is the best, perfect mix between everything including humor. I hate it when people say 'vc is just copy of scarface blah, blah!' Because it did good things in it's own point, regardless it was based off Scareface and Miami Vice. IV is second though.

"How do you think war was? Seeing your friends die, watching legs get blown off? It...it ruined me." - Niko Bellic.

Such powerful dialogue, such a deep character.

No. Both Vice City titles destroy IV.

- "No, I'm an asshole. I've spent all my time running around making morons rich while my family fell apart and the woman I wanted died waiting for me to call."

-"No, I just wanted to piss you off before I kill you".

I was in love with the storyline when the game came out. The storyline feels real and it's just awesome. In the GTA series GTA IV has the best storyline. Second is GTA VC and third is GTA V.

I think the title probably goes to sleeping dogs for me. That game was so pleasantly surprising

The Mafia story in IV was classic stuff. It really felt like you were caught up right in the middle, in the cutthroat world of murderous, double-crossing, greedy, snakey, and shady mobsters. The Irish Mob part was some wacky, cool and funny stuff to see. Dwayne's struggles with coming back to the hood and facing Playboy X was epic real crime drama material.

Ah IV's story was a straight masterpiece !!

Mafia's story is much better in my opinion, but IV's is still great.

I personally think it has the best story because it doesn't have a happy ending. It shows the harsh reality of trying to make money in a big city and the consequences it has. The main characters had so much depth and were so interesting it just made the game better.

They really should make more games like this because they are amazing. Even if GTA IV didn't have a big fan base it will still be remembered.

The game really deserves more recognition and respect for its storyline, too many people overlooked it because of some of the gameplay and not having anything to spend money on.

IMO it has the best story in a video game ever. It starts off slow but nicely and it goes at an excellent pace and keeps you engaged throughout the journey.

Even when I was very critical of GTA IV and a bit disappointed with it when I first played it, one thing I had ALWAYS said about it, was that it had a great storyline. I have always held this same view, and I still do. Thankfully, I decided to give the game another chance a year and a half later, and I also played EFLC, then I finally recognized that IV is in fact a really well-made, great game, despite the criticisms and it's certain flaws.

IV felt different to me because of the fact Niko was irrelevant. He was simply a hired gun. No empire buildings, no mansions, no billions.
