I honestly don't want to a little pecker here but why is this thread still going? I'm used to having a mod make a pinned topic and locking it. Why isn't this locked? Why are the mods responding nicely to everyone?! I'm not used to this.

*sigh*

This is going to take some getting used to...

...specially since what one might consider wrong the other might not necessarily so.

Exactly my point.  I believe that scubadave is spamming, but some people might not.  Therefore, the mods are biased against what they think is spamming.

Yes, and you can solve this yourself by going to this link. Very handy and you'll never have to read another one of his posts again.

There has been an upward trend of spam lately. I'm one of the more lenient staff members. I can appreciate a well placed gif as much as the next guy. But when it becomes habitual and blatantly irrelevant, its out of hand.

Remember, the rules are upheld at our discretion. It is our job to interpret them, not yours. If something you post is questionable, just don't post it.

We all just want to have fun with our topics and discussions but we must do so within the rules. Thanks guys.

Understandable. Like walking into someones house. I wouldn't walk into your house with muddy shoes and raid your fridge. I will treat these forums with respect like I would to someones house.

I will leave my shoes at the door when I hop onto these forums, thank you. :3

Fair enough, but don't take it all to serious, please.

Sometimes one of those gifs explain what you think about something without having to type word.

edit (question):

Are posts regarding a typing error also considered spam? i.e. Learn how to use to or too and stuff like that

(i hate that, if you didn't understand just let it be or ask what they are trying to say, oh sh*t Bitch and moaning, i'll stop i promise :)).

Soooo, as long as we put something productive along with a gif or "inb4lock" it won't be counted as spam?

Cool, it's smooth training from here on in

I'm glad to see this topic and I will try to follow all forum rules as best I can.

As a moderator of another forum not related to video games I know moderation can take
quite a lot of your time so please keep up your good work.

For my 2 cents I have seen a considerable improvement in this forum in the time I've
joined compared to my guest viewings of it previously.

Lets be honest here most of the crappy one liners and gifs people post are not funny and just clump up a thread with useless posts of people trying to be funny. I think the no spam might be a good idea, as long as it doesn't get ignored and forgotten.

One thing for people to avoid would probably be reposting the same story about being embarrassed about their characters lack of muscle tone...not to name names or anything...

Because apparently kindergarteners need explanation for them to learn the rules, despite the rules beign awfully simple. And yes, general chat is for the elitists, but that has nothing to do with following simple guidelines.

I have to add, that of the different forums I'm a member of, this forum has the most trolling an griefing. Wich is why I like this forum I guess, but don't go all crybaby if you get a warning or a ban.

I'm glad its being addressed and handled.

However, the amount of people with their lips glued to moderator butt, makes me sick.

The leniancy and catering towards said butt kissers is also disgusting.

i'm still too recent for my opinion to matter that much.

but the impression i get, lurking outside it's clear the /b/ mentality has permeated this like every other forum.
this website mostly has the right name and is old enough to have secured it's place.

as a lurker i felt there was good info but a ton of crap, besides the ocasional shutdown and gay porn spam.
all i'm saying is as a fresh member i don't feel this forum is rewarding or incentivating members to act acordingly, and ban threats won't help it, just reinforces the idea that staff is now demanding cuts on what they allowed to flourish.

i mean, there's no clear incentive or reason to not "Act like a Roman, when in Rome", and for the most part it looks like it was, is and will be nothing but a circus.

even from another angle, this site has everything to thrive, but as a forum itself, the forum software is pretty bad, which in turn does not help nor encourage members to post beyond what the norm has become.
of course i may be biased due to my experience with v-bulletin boards, including staff and moderation aspects.
i have no doubts staff want to make this as good as they can.
anyone who has been staff in any other forum regardless of size knows there's little desire to power trip, what happens is mostly the part where the staff end up feeling like babysitters.

i'm just saying that, i took the time to write this on mobile, after posting it i have to be quick and click edit and confirm just so my post won't become a wall of text that people won't read and probably will complain about. so yeah, i'm not mad at anyone who posts what is being refered to as spam here.

this can't live from the periodical hype from the game releases alone, give people new features new updates to the forum itself, then demand members to act accordingly.

because what this is made to look is like: "do as we say, as we do nothing"

you did not update the forum, did not prevent it from becoming a trollfest, how do you expect any member to believe you to be able to stop it? sure you could ban everyone, but don't you already do that, still they keep coming back.

so to resume, i think it's a bit hypocritical to punish all members with a "love us or leave" atitude and asking the members to now stop what you all as a collective staff allowed to happen.

site's been around since 2001, that just means you should know better.
the site's general population seems more than adequate to the admin staff it has.

but hey, good luck.

i'm not going to be an hypocrite, i acknowledge i too am here because there's positives too, but i think the former was more important to point out.

Don't take it personally. I've got some years on most of you. I try to be casually assholish in an attempt to keep boring sh*t, like enforcing the rules, a little more funny than not and provoke interesting conversation.

@maybe: you're absolutely right; you haven't been a member here long enough to know anything. So please don't presume to know what is and isn't the staff's fault, nor what we have and haven't encouraged.

@Ezza - as stupid is that sounds, yes, that's pretty much all it takes. A modicum of effort. You'll find that, even just that, is too much for some people to bother with. Those people need to post less.

it's not like this forum was ever much private to keep non members to see what transpired inside...

but your reply just confirms my notion and proves my theory.

this forum deserves exactly the type of members it gets.

i shared with you sincere impressions, you retort back acusing me of being presumptuous just because you can't take any criticism, constructive or not. but i'll tell you what presumption is

presumption would be saying the guy who said you need to get laid, he might've had a point...

go figure

This will only work if your consistent across the board...Some moderator's will see a worthless post and allow it to continue for reasons unknown..Then they lock others legit threads, they "dont agree with"...CONSISTENCY is lacking on this forum, some members are allowed to get away with murder based on numerous things like, join date, if they helped make a mod a sig for there profile, etc and to deny that is laughable...There are certain moderators who absolutely protect users on here and have agenda's...There is ZERO consistency amongst the mods, some look at a topic and say, "well i wont lock that", then another who looks at the topic will lock it...So how can you want forum users to change when you guys cant even get on the same page? Everyone here can see the biased that take place when banning people and locking threads, all you have to do is open your eyes, its not hard to see...

If you didnt know that's spam, then maybe you should unhook your ethernet cord.

This should be locked honestly and any disagreements should be pm'd to the mods. That's normally how announcements work.

Well, MiB, you're not privvy to other members' warning logs. So don't make assumptions. Nobody is on trial here, just nipping sh*tty netiquette in the bud. Spam is far from the worst thing in the world! It's just like... Cleaning out the gutters.

@ maybe - i've confirmed nothing but that you've got your head up your own ass. You have a bone to pick about moderation at large, go lament in the Network Support section. We've been around for 13 years, trust me, we'll be OK.

No they don't, you're making it sound like there is some grand conspiracy. Allow me to burst your bubble, there isn't. We're just enforcing Forum Rules, rules you agree to abide by upon registering on this free service. There really isn't more to it.

WRONG..........you pick and choose who you enforce those rules on....Like i said some users can say and do as they please, all you have to do is LOOK at the forums....Are you going to be un-biased and enforce those rules on everyone fairly? because you dont do that currently..Like i said yu guys cant even get on the same page...Some will see a thread and lock it, others allow it to continue, there should be ZERO differing of opinions, because like you said there are forum rules...I am going to report every person that types inb4lock and expect 100% of them to be banned..Lets see if it happens
