I wanted to find out how much HP my Hunter had after completing Brown Thunder level 236. I know that police vehicles receives 300 HP for each cleared level when CJ is in it, and I assumed Hunters get the same bonus. Assuming that, however, my Hunter took a lot of beating from gunfire, crashes, nearby car explosions and Hydra rockets, so I had little idea of how much HP it actually had.

I parked the Hunter and fired on it with Vulcan Mini Gun. It took 1160 rounds before it exploded.

This guide says that the Vulcan does 140 damage, so I did the math:

1160 x 140 = 162400 HP.
But this doesn't add up with receiving 300 HP each level:
236 levels x 300 = 70800 HP, plus the original 1000 HP amounts to a theoretical maximum of 71800 HP. This is clearly wrong.

I have tested the Vulcan on random cars (which have 1000 HP each), and I find the Vulcan's 140 damage to be plausible, and probably correct.

This proves that a Hunter gets far more HP bonus for each level than police vehicles, but how big is the Hunter's HP bonus?

If you do some math...

162400 - 1000 (base HP) = 161400

161400 : 236 = ~684

So the bonus is somewhere around 684

Or perhaps when you get around such high levels as 236 like you did, you get even more HP. For example instead of 300 HP, you get like 500 HP each level.

But we can't know that. Because as I already have pointed out, I don't know how much damage my Hunter had taken. Who knows how much HP it would have had after level 236 if it had not taken any damage. Maybe the number is 170,000 HP or maybe it is 300,000. I have no idea. It takes a long time to get that far and I don't remember all the hits the Hunter takes.

Here are experts with knowledge of the game scripts and hopefully someone knows exactly how this works.

The vigilante script is the same for all police vehicles. There's different text displayed when starting Brown Thunder but otherwise everything else should be the same. I'm looking at +100 (1000 = 100%) if CJ is not driving at the end of the level and +200 if he is.

Added: I finally had time to do a little research and found a reliable reference for the 200/300 health bonus from the vigilante levels: GTA Phreak.  IIRC, he ran several tests using a trainer to track the current health of his vehicle during the mission. I would consider this a much more accurate measure than my quick scan of the scripts.

However, I'm still convinced it doesn't matter which vehicle is used, the bonus should be the same.

So the Hunter had actually only received the 1000 base HP + 70,800 bonus HP = 71,800 HP.

If each Vulcan round causes 140 damage, it should take no more than 513 Vulcan bullets to destroy my Hunter.

But the 1160 rounds could not have caused more than 62 damage on average (probably a lot less because my Hunter had much less than 71800 HP due to accidents). I did aim at the center of the Hunter's body so I should not have missed.

The only possible explanation I see, is that glitchy programming caused half of the bullets to not count. Perhaps like when you fire at a car with sawn-offs, most of the pellets may miss if you're too close. But I didn't think other weapons than shotguns suffered from this glitch.
I was by the way not standing very near the Hunter, I was well outside of the helicopter explosion blast range.
