Map question

Hey I downloaded a map yesterday. And I saw 2 different file-formats, the wpl-format and the ide-format but what are this files doing ? What are the files regulating ? Sorry for bad grammar. :)

.ide - stores the .wdr/wdd model name for the object, the .wtd texture dictionary for the object (texture dictionary means multiple individual texture images stored into one .wtd file), draw distance (how far away the object should stay visible in the distance, bounding box + sphere values (this tells the game when to make the object dissappear when it's off-screen) and other stuff

.wpl - stores the XYZ location coordinates and XYZW rotation and other stuff like car spawning (rotation is stored in XYZW Quaternion so uses 4 numbers instead of 3 like the location XYZ)
