Drifter's Society

Drifting is something not many know how to do in this game because it's tricky with an automatic transmission.

In this topic I'd like to discuss...

- How to Drift properly

- Best Cars for Rookie Drifters

- Best Cars for Advanced Drifters

- Best Drift Spots

Also, I want every drifter on this forum to share your best experiences while drifting, such as crazy tandems, jump drifts, clean consistent runs. Share videos, montages, etc. What's your favorite drift car and why? What are some crazy drift cars that are underrated?

Learning How Drift in Grand Theft Auto V

Now a lot of people believe drifting is when you whip the tail of your vehicle out and it just drags until it comes back in. This is not the case, this is what is call "Power Sliding"  and it is NOT drifting. Drifting is basically controlling your car while it's out of control. When you whip the tail of your vehicle outwards and you start counter-steering you hit the throttle to get the wheels spinning. The goal is to control the car at a certain angle while using the throttle, steering, clutch, brakes, and the parking brake all at the same time. Now that you understand what drifting is, let me explain how all of this works on this game. It's quite simple, but takes a little practice to get used to. Now when you initiate the drift and start using the throttle, when the car is about to bog down or shift, I want you to use the parking brake(E-Brake) as if it was a clutch, like clutch kicking, sometimes you want to let off the gas, then hit the gas and the parking brake at the same time.Other times you can just simply just use the parking brake when you're still using the throttle. This will juke the transmission and downshift it. Basically all your doing is taking control over an automatic transmission since you aren't able to use a manual transmission. Now... GO TRY IT!

Best Drift Cars for Rookie Drifters

These are the easiest cars to learn to drift with, first I want you to start with the Futo since it is the easiest to drift. After that I suggest you start using the Schwartzer(LOWERED) so you can practice with angle. This will teach you how much angle you can drift at, some cars are different, but this will help you in the long run.

Here's the list.

- Futo

- Schwartzer

- Vigero

- Dominator

I suggest you practice with these vehicles in order. Once you've mastered all of these vehicles or if you feel like skipping the Vigero and the Dominator, you can skip to the Advanced Drift Cars.

Best Drift Cars for Advanced Drifters

*BE SURE TO DO THE LOWERING GLITCH ON YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE TESTING IT*

- Fusilade

- Comet

- Phoenix

- Ruiner

- Sentinel XS

- Oracle 1

- Banshee

- Youga

- Surano

- Rapid GT

- Massacro

Feel free to try them in any order.

If you want a really great challenge, try out the Albany Roosevelt. The Picador is a great AWD Drift car when lowered.

If you guys have other drift spots and drift cars, please list below!

This is The Drifter's Thread share and talk about your experiences.

Examples of Drifting

These are NOT my videos, I am showing an example of actual drifting online without mods or cheats.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYcUecVSCII

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuUN7kVqbsM

I would like to show everyone more examples of drifting, but sadly, no one knows how to drift other vehicles, or I can't seem to find any videos of proper drifting with the vehicles. Hopefully I will be able to record some footage of proper drifting with each vehicle in the list, soon.

A member of staff could have done it for you if you'd asked one of them politely.

On-topic, I'd love to be able to drift properly in this game, and kinda wish there was a way to have driftt lobby's or something with the slidey cars cheat enabled. Would make for some awesome pics aswell.

I actually use the same method for drifting. But it isn't very fun struggling to keep the rpms up. More of a tease. So I just use Forza4 for my drifting fix.

Gta V driving isn't very fun or rewarding in my honest opinion, too easy.

Oh I'd love to just drive in free-roam online with friends with that enabled. I've always thought it'd be easy to to just make the Slidey Car cheat physics accessible with a car mod like Tire Tread > Drift tread

I made this video with the slidey cars cheat on just to make the drifts a little smoother.  But I can drift without it.

try Live For Speed, most realistic driving sim out there on PC. Forza isn't as real as you'd think

If I could afford a PC powerful enough to run it I would but I can't at the moment. Forza4 runs on 360 and has a clutch feature on the controller making it the most realistic budget friendly racing sim. In my opinion at least.

Thinking about getting a PC when black friday rolls around this year instead of a next gen console though.

If you are going to be technical about it how do you drift without a manual transmission?

nah Live For Speed has like PS2 graphics lol

my computer is just a regular Dell laptop and it runs smooth, you need to unlock it and you can mod it out

The parking brake acts like a clutch to confuse the transmission not shift

i personally love my Banshee for drifting... but i want to join some people online and most of them are all futo all the time...

recently ive been driving the futo, but after getting used to the Banshee its just annoyingly slow. However, it can still do most of the things i love my banshee for.

imo, the Banshee is the easiest car to downshift because it can do so at fairly high speeds. it can also do a never ending burn/peel out easier than other cars (method for this is to be going about 10 mph and let go of everything, then hit L2 slightly before hitting R2 and holding both. youll get the smoke from the tire spin going but youll be moving pretty slow. if you start to stop, let off L2 then repress a second later a bitmore than 1/2 way)

i like to "powerslide" into the beginning of my turn, making sure im lined up right without nailing the gas etc, then right before the apex of the turn ill downshift to peel out and spin the tires while accelerating through the turn. i havent made a montage, but may.

IF ANYONE ON PS3 WANTS TO LEARN THIS STUFF AND MORE, JOIN US FOR CASUAL MEETS/LESSONS/TOURS.

http://socialclub.ro...m/crew/emagdnim

this way, when you go online, if you want to drift or meet or w/e, just go down to ONLINE>CREWS>EMAGDNIM>VIEW MEMBERS and join up on someone to get a session started. It DOES NOT need to be your active crew to be able to do this.

Proper drifting can be done in GTA:O, and we can show you how.

I love how OP states that the Futo is for rookies, and the whole video is him driving in a Futo lawl.

that's not me...i was showing an example of drifting.

and i said the futo is the easiest to drift, i like drifting it more than any other car, but i switch cars a lot with the Schwartzer, Fusilade, Comet, Sentinel XS, Vigero, and the Oracle 1.

Those are the cars that I like, many people will have different opinions

P.S. no one likes a dick, besides chicks :)

I see you mentioned the Oracle 1, but IMO the Oracle 2 is pretty good at Drifting too, it's the one I use most of the time for Drifting on my main character online.

OP should highlight the Del Perro pier. The wood decking is almost as good as having the slidey cars cheat on. It's become my goto place for drifting.

Yea, my buddy and I tried to master it, but it is difficult. Props for being able to man.

Hey, I made a race along the map that you posted.

It's call Backwood Drifting. Love it, you should check it out, my favorite is the dominator with rain turned on.

I like to drift my Carbonizzare mainly. I've found that I can drift with trucks, too. Rebel, Bison, etc. Drifting with the Feltzer isn't too bad, nor the Elegy. But my car of choice for drifting is usually the Stinger or the Comet.

Yeah it takes a bit to handle, I feel as if I haven't mastered it yet personally even. But it's a fun car to drive, same with the older model, not to mention convenient amount of doors.

Could someone give me a few tips and pointers to drifting the Sentinel XS, I've been practicing with it but I cant seem to keep the traction from grabbing the road half way through the drift causing me to shoot forward instead of follow through the turn. Or maby I just suck at drifting with the Sentinel XS lol

thats a more difficult one because it doesnt have nearly as much torque as some of the other cars. i would try downshifting right before you usually grip the road and try to push out that last bit of turn.

The most realistic thing you'd get to drifting in this game is: Coil + rain.
