Who started after finding their parents stash?  That's how I started, always said no to my friends then one day I was snooping for x-mas presents and came across their stash, complete with scissors and papers.  So I pinched, rolled and smoked it in their bathroom.  Thought every car going up and down the street was a cop car haha, good times.

The first time I found my mom's stash I was probably no older than 10. It was this huge ass block of compressed brick weed she had hidden in her jacket, and it looked and smelled so bad that I wasn't sure if it was even weed or not at first haha. Regardless I nabbed some and used her roller and papers to roll up what was probably a sh*tty joint. Looking back I don't think I even really broke it down or anything. Also I don't know how I managed to learn to use a roller back then but can't do it today but that's another story for another time. I waited until night and smoked in the side lot of my house but I never got baked because I didn't inhale properly. Smoked a few separate occasions if I could find some after that but didn't start regularly until 18.

my parents are old hippies so they definitely had a stash.

but I didn't need to find it because when we were old enough to want to try pot, we simply knew where to get it.

that being said our first time getting high was not glamorous.

we found the weed but nobody had a pipe. my buddy Kevin made a pipe out of tin foil and later we fashioned a metal pipe out of brass joints/sockets that were stocked around my friend Tom's house. because his dad was a plumber or something. it worked really well. we had a carb on the side of it. wish I had pictures of that thing. it was brilliant.

Damn those motherf*cking bike racks atop of car roofs at night!  Nearly shat a brick on numerous occasions.

When I spent a few years in a small town, I damn near memorized the entire local law enforcement fleet (most undercovers too) trying to avoid a possession charge.  Even learned the state trooper licence plate # format of "SHP..." to spot unmarked units. The people who used to say "Relax bro...Turn the music bass up...Stop sketchin' man." were the ones who ended up getting nabbed with pot.  It's all in the game I guess.

This f*cking attitude though, really irks me. I live in a medical state but don't have my card so I'm burnt if I'm caught or pulled over with stinky sh*t. I don't like cops, but they're not dumb. I get really cautious a lot and dumb cats wanna tell me that same line, only to get busted themselves. Be f*cking careful my fellow stoners, the system is a bitch!

9...f*cking...years.
Spoiler

No words can explain how sad/mad I am at myself after last night. I got this from my little brother (in prison now) for my birthday back in 2008. Perfect color for me and I loved the way it hit.. it was the one. It survived drops on concrete and tiled floors etc. but it didn't survive a short fall on to a glass table. This is the longest I've gone without breaking a piece, my previous record was 2-3 years.

That device looks really cool.  Not really digging the production values on that video though lol  Also don't know anyone that has lived the experience they're talking about with someone making edibles that makes people sick for a few days.

VICE seems to act like they're on the cutting edge but they kind of bury any real information in buzzworthy presentation. That video about "How to grow the same high", was really sad.  Three minutes showing off some dude's grow facility and the answer basically comes down to what every grower and their mother already knew: cloning.

I've never really had good effects with edibles even when bought from a store.  The high is just very different, they just make me drowsy.

There's some real sh*t going down here in Michigan with dispensaries. They have to shut down by Dec. 15th if they don't get re-licensed under some "new law". At first they were going to shut down all dispensaries right away (this week), but then they were given a three month grace period at the last minute.

Irritating. Just got my card a month ago and am finally getting some relief, now this? Guess I better stock up on my supply since it's looking like dispensaries here will be shut down the first few months of the new year. I'm not someone who is very privy on where to safely buy weed, either.

Maybe you should/could just grow your own?

That really sucks they f*cked ya like that.

Well if you use feminized seeds you don't have to sex them :)  But the video was getting at how to get the same high out of a strain of weed when grown and it basically was just showing this guy's massive cloning facility.  Like acting like they're on the cutting edge of taking cuttings or something :p

In other news, there's some public comment hearings in Olympia today about legalizing home-growing in Washington since we're still the only legalized state that doesn't allow it.  I'm not really liking the terms they're putting on the table though, as they're limiting all households to 4 plants, not nearly enough for a medical user, and I don't know if they're keeping the existing framework in place for medical patients or totally f*cking it over like they did in the language of I-502.  Then there's apparently all sorts of provisions about surveillance, youth diversion measures, blah f*cking blah.

I mean it would be great if they were going to open that up while not screwing the patients, but it looks like it's just going to be richy-rich pay-to-play nanny gardening with your 4 little bonzai plants lol

well I definitely know people who have made a bad batch of homemade edibles.

maybe it didn't leave anyone sick for days but it left people sick.

but I don't think VICE "thinks" they're cutting edge.

I think they just like making stoner videos. because they're fun and get views. the things they're talking about might be common sense to 'every grower' but not everyone's a grower and there's still plenty of ignorance and misinformation about cannabis floating around to this day. it might not be groundbreaking news to me, but it's probably pretty helpful to someone.

Yeah. And they have yet to say what the "new law" is going to be. I've been doing a little research to try to figure out what this mysterious new law is but I haven't found much yet.

I suppose I should look into it, although I kill pretty much every plant I've ever tried to grow/maintain. I can't even keep a cactus alive. Don't know if I could forgive myself if I literally killed my own medicine. :panic:

Time to start keeping your glass coffee jars and store that sh*t in a nice dry cool area, so that your supply lasts until the dispensaries come back.

Keep some humidpak's on hand just incase she dries out too much.

Not sure how much your smoking at the moment but because your coming into being medicated, keep more than what you are using at the moment. Better to have too much than too little.

Well you did say Michigan right?  Looking at your state laws, it looks like possession of any amount is only a misdemeanor so on second that you'd probably be better off just buying it and storing it. Sometimes some states ( like mine ) have stupid possession laws where over 40 grams ( an ounce and a half basically ) is a felony the same as cultivation, so in some instances it just makes sense to grow your own if it's the same legal risk.  But who knows what the knew law will be, I am just going buy what's on NORML now.

About a month or so ago, I picked up this magazine at my local grocery store:

51Ek3TuC1dL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

I thought it was very good. Opened my eyes even more about the ignorance and stigma that often surrounds this herb. Basically, it covered the whole history of marijuana and how it just kind of got lumped in with heroin and other hard drugs when they started the whole "war on drugs" thing. There were people (scientists, members of the medical community, and even members of government) who tried to minimize its danger and then prove that it in fact had some medicinal qualities but they got shut down time and time again by people like Nixon and then Reagan.

I've been using now pretty much every other day since I got my card a few months ago and I've been feeling pretty good. Very few migraines. Even tried a new strain recently called "Strawberry Fields". Makes me a little more high than the Blue Dream. Kind of fun!

Anyone know the easiest/most simple way to make edibles?

My usual go-to, quick and dirty:

1. Decarb 1/8th oz bud

2. Pour 2 fl oz 151 rum, or higher proof if available, into a jar, add weed

3. Let it soak for an hour or so, shaking occasionally

4. Strain weed, use a garlic press if you have one to get a little more yield.

5. Toss buds or let them dry and use it as filler

6. Dose at 1-2 ml.

I'm on the skinnier side so 2 ml hits like a truck depending how the decarb goes (I have a gas oven) and how good the bud is.

Sounds cheaper to go back  to the dealer.

https://www.yahoo.co...2--finance.html

California's legal marijuana marketplace is coming with a kaleidoscope of new taxes and fees that could influence where it's grown, how pot cookies and other munchies are produced and the price tag on just about everything.

Be ready for sticker shock.

On a retail level, it costs about $35 to buy a small bag of good quality medical marijuana in Los Angeles, enough to roll five or six joints.

But in 2018, when legal sales take hold and additional taxes kick in, the cost of that same purchase in the new recreational market is expected to increase at the retail counter to $50 or $60.

At the high end, that's about a 70 percent jump.

Medical pot purchases are expected to rise in cost too, but not as steeply, industry experts say.

Or consider cannabis leaves, a sort of bottom-shelf product that comes from trimming prized plant buds. The loose, snipped leaves are typically gathered up and processed for use in cannabis-laced foods, ointments, concentrates and candies.

Growers sell a trash bag stuffed with clippings to manufacturers for about $50. But come January, the state will tax those leaves at $44 a pound.

That means the tax payment on a bag holding 7 or 8 pounds would exceed the current market price by five or six times, forcing a huge price hike or, more likely, rendering it essentially valueless.

"All it would become is compost," predicted Ryan Jennemann of THC Design in Los Angeles, whose company has used the leaves to manufacture concentrated oils.

Governments struggling to keep up with the cost of everything from worker pensions to paving streets are eager for the cascade of new tax money from commercial pot sales that could eventually top $1 billion statewide.

But higher taxes for businesses and consumers give the state's thriving illicit market a built-in advantage. Operators in the legal market have been urging regulators to be aggressive about shutting down rogue operators.

Donnie Anderson, a Los Angeles medical cultivator and retailer, predicted the higher level of state taxation next year is "just going to help the illicit market thrive." He said more needs to be done to cut the cost, especially for medical users, many of whom won't be able to absorb a price jump.

The increased tax rates are just one part of California's sprawling plan to transform its long-standing medical and illegal markets into a multibillion-dollar regulated economy, the nation's largest legal pot shop. The reshaping of such an expansive illegal economy into a legal one hasn't been witnessed since the end of Prohibition in 1933.

The change has come haltingly. Many cities are unlikely to be ready by Jan. 1 to issue business licenses, which are needed to operate in the new market, while big gaps remain in the system intended to move cannabis from the field to distribution centers, then to testing labs and eventually retail shops.

The path to legalization began last year when voters approved Proposition 64, which opened the way for recreational pot sales to adults. Medical marijuana has been legal in California for about two decades.

Come January, state taxes will include a 15 percent levy on purchases of all cannabis and cannabis products, including medical pot.

Local governments are free to slap on taxes on sales and growing too, and that has created a confusing patchwork of rates that vary city to city, county to county.

In the agricultural hub of Salinas, southeast of San Francisco, voters approved a tax that will eventually rise to $25 a square foot for space used to cultivate the leafy plants, a rate that's equivalent to about $1 million an acre.

But farther north, in the pot-growing mecca of Humboldt County, rates will be a comparative bargain, ranging from $1 to $3 for a square foot for cultivation space.

By some estimates Humboldt County has up to 15,000 unregulated pot grows, and Supervisor Ryan Sundberg said he was eager to fashion a tax scheme that would encourage cultivators to come into the legal system and adhere to environmental regulations.

"A high tax rate, that would be one more barrier to getting people regulated," he said.

Lower-tax areas could also be a lure to businesses looking to save on costs.

Here's a snapshot of how new taxes will roll out for an average consumer in Los Angeles:

Currently, for legal medical pot, there is no specific state tax on cannabis and the city tax is 6 percent, which is usually incorporated into the sale price at the counter.

When the recreational market opens in January, an eighth-ounce bag that sells for $35 will be subject to a 15 percent state tax. A city business tax that typically gets passed on to consumers will add another 10 percent, and then the buyer will be hit with the usual sales tax, about 10 percent in L.A.

Businesses are being saddled with new taxes and costs on cultivation, distribution and testing, which will be rolled into the consumer price.

Together, operators say, that will push retail prices to $50 or $60 for that eighth-ounce purchase.

As for medical, the city tax would be lower, 5 percent, but retailers say that's sometimes not passed on to the consumer. Consumers with a valid medical marijuana identification card would not pay sales taxes.

A report last week from financial analysts Fitch Ratings concluded that state and local taxes could balloon to 45 percent for recreational marijuana in some communities.

"The existing black market for cannabis may prove formidable competitor to legal markets if new taxes lead to higher prices than available from illicit sources," the report warned.

Some predict that prices will eventually come down as the legal market matures.

Other states with legal recreational pot have restructured taxes over time.

Washington state, for example, initially imposed separate 25 percent taxes up to three times: when the grower sold it to the processor, when the processor sold it to the retailer and at the point of public sale. In 2015 that was pushed down to a 37 percent tax at the point of retail sale, plus sales tax. In Seattle, that combined rate is about 47 percent for recreational sales.

"While our members, like any other business sector, would like to see a lower tax rate, we have not seen any evidence that current tax rate is diverting people into the black market," Aaron Pickus, a spokesman for the Washington CannaBusiness Association, an industry group, said in an email.

There are other barriers to unregulated businesses entering the new system.

Nicole Howell Neubert, a marijuana industry lawyer, said a retail business could easily ring up $200,000 in permitting and other costs associated with compliance in the new legal market.

"When you add to that high tax rates, you increase the number of reasons why someone might not be able to become regulated," she said.
