SR2 is the last decent game in the series before it went all cheap and ridiculous. It's a much, much better game than the last two. Definitely worth playing, I'd say.

Actually I've played the last two and while I agree the 3rd was mediocre I'm actually liking the 4th one alot.

I've played them too. I'm not saying they are total sh*t, just that SR2 is a superior game in many ways.

It's my favorite of all the "GTA clones" out there.

Yes...
IMO it surpassed GTA IV and feels like a spiritual successor to GTA III. No need for gritty undertones; just straight, badass over-the-top fun.

SRIV isn't that bad...it's like InFamous, with guns. The writing is much better than it was in "The Third" & the jokes and references are vastly improved.

SR2 is one of the best games of all time IMO. You need to get it. I've got it on my PSN account digitally and at the moment, I have it deleted but I can redownload it. It's fantastic. It's the main SR game.

Many say it's the best one in the series though I personally prefer the first one.

There's no doubt you should get it, just keep in mind that it's ported terribly on practically every version of the game so expect playing in low frame rate, but it shouldn't kill your fun.

This one had the best story hands down.

Both Saints Row 1 and 2 are worth picking up I'd say, SR1 was my personal favorite and you could probably find it for pretty cheap I'm sure.

Lol I guess so :sarcasm: (although SR1/2 esp. SR2 are like the best rip-offs not just to GTA but to SA and SR2 is one of my best game of last-gen and all-time).

If you have a 360, get SR1 if you can, too, just to see how different it is from 3 and 4. And good choice with deciding to get Saints Row 2, it was worth getting. The activities are fun, they aren't forced onto you, the customization is still good, the story is pretty interesting, and Stilwater is bigger and far more varied than Steelport, you'll actually be able to tell apart different neighborhoods when you're going through them, plus there are a lot of hidden areas and interiors to explore (I even recently discovered a new one myself). The co-op is quite fun, too, even though everyone uses cheats and I'd personally rather have fun going through missions without cheats first, then f*cking around with low-gravity and action figure-sized players. It's a shame they didn't continue the series in the same vein as 2, since I think they nailed it when it came to being over the top. It wasn't completely goofy and it did have its serious moments, but it had just the right amount of outrageous-ness to be fun without being dumb.

Actually, activities are forced onto you in SR1 and 2 since you need to get respect to do missions.

@NightSpectre
Talking about "Respect" i have to say it was weird and amazing how Saints Row (2006-2014) borrowed that element from San Andreas (2004) and popularised it (I know from SR3 you dont need to full the respect bar to do missions unlike SR2 and the only thing good about it even with it retardedness) but with how Over-The-Top Retarded SR4 is does it still have the respect system?

True, they do earn more respect, but I felt they were also more varied than SR3's. There were certainly more, like Crowd Control, Septic Avenger, Fight Club, and Fuzz. I won't miss the old Escort side missions though, they were tedious and I hated not being able to kill the paparazzi that chase after you without the pleasure meter dropping.

It's a bit more time consuming but killing gang members, doing stunts, buying clothes, vehicle surfing, diversions, etc. all gain respect so it is possible to go through the entire game without touching them.

I'd say so. It's defiantly no masterpiece, but it is a pretty fun game with good mission variety, excellent customization, and a decent soundtrack (the 80's station needed more songs imo).

After my initial shock with GTA IV's dark and gritty feel, I bought SR2 when it was released.
Utter piece of s*it.
Graphically it looked like SanAndreas.
Car handling was way worse.
Awful sounds.
Boring radio stations.

So I played it couple of times and discarded it.

Safer to get GTA SanAndreas.
But that's just my opinion.

SR2 plays way better than San Andreas, which hasn't aged well.

The game is fun as hell and offers a lot. And it actually lets you play in a style you want to, so you can take it serious if you like, or play completely insane.

However I would recommend playing through it in co-op with a friend, that is where a lot of the fun is. Being able to experience the hilarity of that game with a friend brings it back to the old days of playing singleplayer games as your mate watches.

Good times.

Plus, you can make sub zero and scorpion from ninja outfits. Then uppercut old ladies to the moon with the pimp slap cheat. Can't beat that sh*t.

Saints row 2 is AWESOME.

Brilliant sandbox with great missions and a lot to do.

It is a bit ugly, though, but once you get past the bad looks, you will love it.
