1. Vice City

2. IV

4.The Ballad of Gay Tony

5. V (How ironic)

6. The Lost and Damned

7. Liberty City Stories

8. Vice City Stories

9. San Andreas

I was going to put V at third, but I just recently replayed III and realized that it deserved the 3rd spot. I also didn't know where I'd put the top-down games, so I didn't include them. I actually enjoyed the Ballad. Yeah, I enjoyed it that much. And I know I'm going to have SA fanboys crawling all over me, but I did not like San Andreas. The story was really weak, honestly. It's all about the hood and the crack and everything in between. It didn't transfer the whole '90s theme at all. The RPG stats were annoying. Really? It's an open-world game. I shouldn't be forced to eat every 24 hours or whatever it was. Muscle apparently raised your attack power, but I didn't see any change, especially because I don't use hand-to-hand combat in GTA a lot. Sure the map was huge, but it was really empty. Sometimes I found myself in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing to do. Missions that tried to be unique, but failed miserably, resulting in a series of dreadfully boring challenges. Rockstar tried to implement a stealth mechanic, but what did they accomplish really? It was used in a couple of missions and you always had to use a knife. If you didn't have a knife, stealth was basically pointless. A silenced pistol? That can be used as stealth, too? Well, either way, people still freak out, even though you're using "stealth". I could go on, but this isn't the hate topic for San Andreas. Also, CJ was annoying.

Why do I have the feeling there is already a topic like this...

#1: GTA IV: Not perfect, but it's the one I played the most. If you know me a little bit, you know that I have some kind fondness for New York City so this has to be my favorite game ever.

#2: GTA SA: Once was the one I played the most. The graphics are outdated and the story is confusing, but the map, the cheats and it's vibe are the best in GTA.

#3: GTA V: Obviously not the best game in the series, but also not the worst. The story is bad, the characters are boring and the cheats... but, the map is awesome, the gameplay is (mostly) great and the graphics are stunning (for a game this size).

V had a good map and graphics.  I was disappointed that so little was used in the single player game.  No prison break outs, one small break in into the army base, and the gym is just eye candy.   The game was technologically superior in every way, but the story was just a bunch of heist planning missions and messing around with country meth dealers.  San Andreas had a better map with three cities, and there was all kinds of stuff to do on it.  Technology does not make the game.  Having three protags really diluted the story in my opinion.

GTA V: Single Player is ok. Multiplayer is pretty sh*t and boring tbh

GTAV. Perfect mixture of what was great about SA and IV (I'm honestly not that big a fan of IV). GTAIII is second with SA and VC tied at third.

I think comparing them is silly. Having said that, I think GTA III was a ridiculously good game, and it's successors have simply been refinements of that model

I have played all GTAs since GTA, and I loved the games before 3, but that game pretty much f*cked up my last year of school!
