So, from what I have gathered, the off topic subsection has certain standards-for example, most forum games seem to be locked. No, I'm not here to complain about this, but instead I have a solution. How about a forum fun subsection of general chat where we could post forum games like Finish the Sentence or Ban the User Above You? Though of course post count would be turned of in this subforum, and there would still be some basic rules about blatant spam, but it would still be a more layed back place then off topic where almost anything goes.

Thoughts?

So a dedicated section for spamming, sh*t posting, and circle jerking? Why didn't the admins think of this sooner!?

Well it's better than having spam posted in the legit threads! :p

I've seen this done on other forums, and it worked very well. It was just all games and rarely any flaming. Granted this place is much bigger and filled with trolls...

Do you mean a 'Forum Games' subsection?

It sounds alright in theory, but I bet it would become a sh*t fest very quickly.

You could transfer all the games in there, like the ones in GTA sections (Who Am I, Guess the mission, etc.) and all others in general (Guess the football team, guess the movie, etc)...

As for it becoming a sh*tfest, as long as it will be moderated, I'm sure it will be okay.

This never works in a forum as big as this and always leads to conflict, spam, and makes a lot of the posting be confined to those forums, that contribute absolutely nothing for a community like this.

I won't drag this out, the answer is no.

But... But...

Nah, I get it. Something that works for one place won't always work for another. Doesn't hurt to take a shot in the dark and ask though, I guess.

I don't think that's the problem..

It's probably server overload, just imagine all the people posting sh*t there. Nothing would handle it.

Gen chat is the least moderated - theoretically - section of the forums. If it doesn't fly there, we wouldn't allow it elsewhere.  Perhaps in the private boards, but that's another story.

Use genchat and follow the example there for what we consider allowable. ;)

Wasn't there a section years ago dedicated to that which resulted in the banning of a MOD?

I vaguely remember hearing that.

Pure hearsay. No such thing ever happened.

Nope. Even if it doesn't contribute to post count, the overall quality of posts will deteriorate in the Off-Topic section. Now I'm not suggesting that it is always up to scratch, but it could be a lot worse if something like this was to happen. It would be the same as the good old days of The Pit™ where people would go to basically have flame wars. This was all great fun but it ended up bringing negativity to the whole forum and arguments started in there spilled over into other forums.

Not a bad idea in some respects (if done correctly) but I can't see it working here.

That's probably similar to what the Pit used to be. And that got removed permanently. I wasn't here when that was around so I am not entirely sure what it was but It seemed like an anything goes type section where people could just let it fly.

I have wanted a section where you can post pretty much anything as long as it wasn't porn/gore/excessively racist etc. In order to pull the spam out of Gen chat but the mods would never go for it.
