Viewing banned members' profiles

Best Answer Raavi, 05 April 2014 - 11:00 PM

1. Yes, you can only see temped members' profiles, not (BUSTED!) banned members'.

2. I can't speak for what put the final nail in his coffin, but he had been given more than enough chances.

I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that before the forum overhaul in 2012 when GTAF still had its original layout, that when members were banned you could still view their profiles. It was useful since you could see what caused their ban or what their last post was. So, I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, how come you can see some peoples' profiles even though they're banned? Is it because they're only temp-banned? Just wondering since I can still see some banned profiles, but not all of them. My second question is a bit more specific, what caused gnad.1992's ban? He seemed to be a decent member and he's been here since 2005.

Thanks. :colgate:

Completely blows my mind how he was given so many chances yet kept getting banned again and again.  I'm pretty sure he's back already though, just on a different account.  I wouldn't be surprised.

There should be some kind of archive on banned members though, would be pretty cool.  Of course just the significant ones, not the ones spam-posting porn and such.  To this day, I still have no clue why GTALegion is banned.  I've heard multiple reasons from him starting a fight with a member, to trolling a mod.  Some kind of archive could provide clarification on bans, unless staff is not allowed to assemble one for whatever reason.

When you get arrested, there are no public statements. It's between you and the authorities; such is the way here. Everyone keeps complaining you can't view banned members profiles but there really isn't any need for members to be able to view banned members profiles other than to be nosy - in which case, I politely say, if it doesn't concern you, mind your own business.

One slight problem with adhering to that school of thought, that being that this is the Internet, and on the Internet, privacy is a hard thing to come by.

I don't really think it would be to be nosy. This is a public forum on the internet. Members get to choose how much personal info they put on their profiles, and if they do something dumb and get banned, I think others should be allowed to see why. You compared it to being arrested; that works both ways. When someone gets arrested and it becomes a big case, the culprit's personal life suddenly becomes the public's to know. The way I see it, you waive all privacy rights you previously had when you get caught, so I think others should be able to find out why you were banned.

On the other hand, maybe the banned member had a person who they frequently chatted with. They suddenly get banned, and since you can't see their final posts and you won't get an answer anywhere else, you'd never know why.

Anyway, just my opinion.

He might of been joined up since 2005 but I dont recall him posting a whole lot until GTA V was released. Plus looking at some of his posts it isnt really a surprise that he's been banned.
