Grand Theft Auto V for PC hasn't been confirmed by Rockstar Games, but that isn't stopping cyber-criminals from preying on its hopeful fans.

According to Trend Micro, a company specializing in online security, users are receiving emails that offer entry into a non-existent GTA V PC beta test. The attached .ZIP file opens an application named "Your promo code in app rockstargames.com," which actually leads to a backdoor called BKDR_ANDROM.ATG.

Like R* would send an email from Slovakia...

A lot of kids won't even notice...all they'll see is GTA V Windows and jump straight in...

You'd think the email's poor grammar and unofficial look would bring up skepticism, but apparently some are too eager to take a closer look.

This is just funny, tbh.  This is why there is virus' and spyware.  Morons are in too much of a hurry to click click click click click everything without even reading it half the time...

I'm sure that most PC gamers won't fall for it anyway, as they will spot the scam right away, because of the grammar. But there are always people who will click on anything they see...

Anyway, the game isn't announced for the PC yet. But I hope R* do so soon.

They may be able to fool some people, but I've never fallen victim to scam emails like these. It's really sad people actually get a thrill from destroying random peoples' computers...

I'm sure that almost everyone here could tell that the GTA V PC beta E-mail is spam. Check the picture I posted above, the grammar on the email is terrible! :p

Not sure which is more stupid. People who make these viruses or people who actually fall for this scam.

I still don't get why some people enjoy watching random computers get destroyed or getting personal data (like backdoor does) for the fun.

They don't, obviously. There is never one reason for the creation of a virus although usually it's aimed at monetary gain and stealing information which can be used to gain money. It's very rare that software, even a virus, can 'destroy' a computer - it can't physically touch your components so the most it can do is screw up your operating system. People who get viruses and break their computers usually do so due to their own stupidity in both cases :p

most just contain keylogers, so they can access your credit card information and passwords, track your internet browsing etc and sell that information to the highest bidder. you'd be surprised at how much they spend just to get the email lists in the first place.
